Looks spacious and urban at the same time. It's strange that there have been so few Gothenburg threads so far, even though it's fifth biggest city in the Nordics. I'm glad that you did one, it really looks beautiful, vibrant city. If you have any more Gothenburg pics I'd be very grateful. Aren't they planning four semi-skyscrapers in the downtown?

Nice to see photos of Göteborg for a chance. I didn't know you had trams there.

You should add an extra 0 onto those lengths. It's 500 km's to Stockholm from there. :)

Actually it's one of the biggest tram cities in the world with a track length of 146 km, if i remember correctly. Anyone have the exact numbers?

The buildings on the first picture are 8 14 story buildings.
On the second picture there's a 15 story building (the yellow are 9 story buildings)
On the third picture you see 2 buildings in the background, these are 10 story buildings. There's also a third one, not included in the photo.

When was your central train station built?

When was your central train station built?

It was completed 2003 i think.

Actually the building is a part of the central station with 2 other buildings and is called centralhuset (the central building). The other buildings are, the old central station which looks like an old goast house, and the other building as the busterminal (which is the biggest in sweden) called Nils Ericsons Terminalen, built in the '90s.

O wow, disco! Thanks a whole lot! :okay:

Although you also show some handsome old buildings, Goeteborg looks so sleek and modern in these photos!

The train station & the bus terminal are very attractive, and I just go :eek2: over that tram system!

It's great to see so many Goeteborgers out enjoying the sunshine in their beautiful city. :)

Please promise to take more photos as you're, able, OK?

Nice to see some Göteborg-pics for a chance! Kind of unusual in this forum. Tho it is the second largest city in Sweden I have the feeling that it is sort of "on hold" in Sweden for the moment, and in the shadow of the developing Öresundsregionen (Malmö and Copenhagen) and of course the capital of Stockholm. Am I right?

By the way, it is an incredible tram system!

Am I correct in assuming that you have a bus system as well? I gather no subway, but I may be wrong on one or both points.

You're right. No subway over here. But there's some underground tram stations; Hammarkullen, Frölunda Torg, Lisebergs Station (Commuter Train Station).

Except tram and busses we have local trains (commuter trains), but only three stations located inside the city borders. Numbers of stations in metro area are about 20-30 i guess.

Se a map of busses and trams. (No trains on this map) (http://www.vasttrafik.se/directory/publications/31372/CE_IMAGES/karta050110Tryck.jpg)

And let's not forget the farries. :) They are on the map, but worth an extra mentioning. They go out in the archipelago on the same fare as the buses and trams.

As some of you might remember, I was in Göteborg last summer. It was an extremely pleasant experience. I have only kind words to say about the city. Quite lively, yet not too hectic. A fine downtown, good tram network, nice people, nice canal and so on. We stayed at a hotel in the same building as Nordstan, wich were excelent for shopping. Our hotel window was facing towards the railway-square there, with all the trams running there all the time. Yet that didn't bother us at all, because the trams were SO silent and smooth compared to here.

I've been thinking, that if Norway, Sweden and Denmark should unite and become one country, Göteborg would be the most natural place to have the capital. Because of its beauty and because of its location between all the three existing capitals. On the other hand, that would probably ruin the charm that can be found there today.

Am I allowed to show some of my Göteborg photos here?

Has Disco left? I could edit my Gothenburg thread to make it official or something and then everyone could add to it. (At least the quality of the first ones won't be intimidating, hehe.) It would be great to have everything in one place, I think. Thoughts?

I´ll add some of my Göteborg pics. This first pic is from Avenyn, the main street. Don´t forget to scroll it, it´s a panorama! There has been a debate on what to do to make Avenyn come to it´s former splendour. One problem as I see it is that the trees were chopped down some years ago and it ´ll take many years for the new ones to grow big. The street is not as green as it used to be.
