View Full Version : from economy part, what is the ranking for malaysia in asia?
samson April 16th, 2005, 10:53 PM from economy part, how do u feel the ranking for malaysia for in asia?
i think top 1 will be japan,
then following is china include hongkong n taiwan
then korea n singapore
i think malaysia and thailand will b top 5 in asia.
baqthier April 17th, 2005, 12:31 AM I think SKorea, Singapore and Taiwan should be above China. Their population is pretty low but could generate GDP of hundred of billions. The same can be applied to both Malaysia and Thailand too. But when it comes to economic power, I agree with your list!
AFL April 17th, 2005, 07:46 AM malaysia's GDP only reach over 100 billion dollars(real terms)
or almost 250 billion dollars if using PPP(purchasing power parity)
note: this is not accurate :sleepy: :sleepy:
yung85 April 17th, 2005, 11:37 AM i think this is wat it will look like since i am studying economics for my degree and from all the economic mags that i read.... wakak..... this table below compares countries relative to their economic size and doesnt take into account other factors such as population, equality etc therefore when u see countries like indonesia's economy is larger than malaysia but this doesnt actually mean that their standard of living in indonesia is better than malaysia..... the data i gave below are roundup numbers and not the exact number just to give u an idea the size of each economy
1. japan - $4500 billion
2.china + HK (without HK china will still be 2nd) - $1500 billion
3.india - $700 billion
4.south korea - $600 billion
5.taiwan - $300 billion
6.indonesia - $250 billion
7.malaysia - $170 billion
8.thailand - $150 billion
9.singapore - $100 billion
10.pakistan -$90 billion

well..I've got it from www.bbc.co.uk
AFL April 18th, 2005, 11:41 AM in 2000, malaysia's GDP per capita did reach over 10,700 dollars but by the next few years that figure declined to just around 9000 dollars...........that has to do with slow economic growth or maybe the population is growing faster...or maybe both.....
szehoong April 18th, 2005, 12:54 PM The figures looks good for Malaysia but our pay is still like peanuts! :D
Standard of living is increasing but our miserable wages are stuck since the middle ages! :dizzy:

Malaysia 36th in quality of life index
NEW YORK: Malaysia has gone up 15 positions from last year to rank 36th in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s quality of life index for this year.
With a gross domestic product per person (at purchasing power parity) of US$10,450 (RM39,710), Malaysia is now sixth among Asian countries.
Singapore is in 11th place followed by Japan (17th), Hong Kong (18th), Taiwan (21st) and South Korea (30th), among the 111 countries that were ranked.
To determine quality of life, there were nine factors taken into consideration. They included material well-being, health, which considers life expectancy, political stability and security, and family life, which covers divorce rate.
The other determinants were community life, climate and geography, job security, political freedom and gender equality.
Ireland leads the ranking, moving up from fourth last year to top spot, while the United States dropped two places to 13th. Zimbabwe is at the bottom rung.
szehoong April 23rd, 2005, 05:06 AM Hmmmm......my quality of life index are based on the number of mamaks available per capita so KL would be at the top spot!
ZaHiRnYa??? April 23rd, 2005, 05:17 AM Hmmmm......my quality of life index are based on the number of mamaks available per capita so KL would be at the top spot!
Ish...no wonder la...there are so many mamak stall in KL
szehoong April 23rd, 2005, 06:31 AM ^^^ Yea.....just ask any Malaysians (or at least any college students) that have studied overseas. 90% would say they missed mamak so that is why you could see why Melbourne's outdoor cafes are packed with Malaysian students cos those are like mamak substitute mah :D
