I recently got myself a 4.0 Megapixel digital camera and was looking to try it out. So, over the course of a few days I snapped a bunch of pics from around my neighborhood. Think of this as a partial tour of Kitsilano. There is a lot more to see, but I was simply too lazy to cover everything. Maybe next time. Anyway, hope you like.

This building on the corner was built within the last few years I believe. I like this brick look.

A Rugby match at Connaught Park. Big crowd on hand.

I find the zoom creates a nice effect.

Really zoomed in.

This dangling of shoes seems to be a trend these days. They're all over the place.

A nice cafe on Broadway.

An artsy pic of English Bay. Zoomed to the max.

The new 5 million dollar restaurant/bistro/public washroom/lifeguard tower. I think construction is scheduled to be complete in a month or so.

A relatively old building on Cornwall Ave, near Kits beach.

On Kits beach looking south. This is a pan - two pictures.

A view from Vanier Park towards Burrard bridge. This is a pan of 1.5 pictures. :)

I had to take this shot.

Looking south along the Arbutus corridor. Now used by joggers, walkers, and the odd homeless person...

Cute.

Hey, thanks for the pics! You know about the shoes.. Ive heard that they are all thrown up by the same person, and if you look closely his name is scribbled on the soles of the shoes. I forget his name, but if you look you can see it. I guess its a form of art?

Great pics. Looking down the Artubus corridor, it seems to be a natural fit for a LRT line.

^ ya its a good fit for somthing like an extention of the downtown street car project, but an aful choice for the RAV line.

In Edmonton shoes hung over phone lines signify a drug dealer lives in the area.

Or so the young'ins claim.

I'm continually amused whenever I see them. It's sort of graffiti without the paint. Your theory is perhaps partly true. I doubt they are all thrown up by the same person, as I'm sure there are copy cats out there. In any case, I'll look at the soles next time.

That's a scary thought. :eek2: I don't think that is the case here though.

I'd prefer street car, but is there really a big benefit of running it along the corridor (where the old tracks are) as opposed to any wide street? It still has to cross streets and it is kinda situated in no-man's land for much of the way.

i'll post pics of Vancouver, Whistler and the peak of Grouse Mountain in a week. These were taken a year ago but i never got a chance to develop them. I'll also post pics of today's Sun Run at BC Place and I'll also take pics of Imagine 2010, that will happen on Saturday.

Great pics!

WRT the Arbutus ROW, there would only be interaction at street and alley crossings, whereas in the middle of the street there would be crossings plus every left turn (into a street or alley or driveway) would also cross the tracks - the former you look to the left - the latter you have to do a shoulder check.
There would also be less utilities under the ROW compared to the roadway - that's a major cost of LRT construction - relocating utilities buried under streets.

Why the hell would the arbutus corridor need a streetcar? I cant think of one good reason to support it. Its not a tourist area, there are already buses, and a streetcar wouldnt be able to make enough money to support itself. Most people would take it once then forget about it.

But a good idea for the arbutus corridor would be a paved path for joggers, with grass and manicured gardens.

Kits is probably one of the best places in all of Vancouver. The beach has a really good bohemian vibe to it (aka everyone around you is smoking a fattie)

^ As with any beach in Vancouver. I would say wreck has more of a bohemian vibe though. That beach is wikkid.

I agree a street car/LRT would be pointless. I like the jogging path idea, but I think a much better idea is a bike path like the ones they have in europe. Its to dangerous to ride on the street and it's techniqly illegal to ride on the side walks and if you do you cant go fast since there is high pedestrean use. With high fule costs I think it would be a bike only path would be great.

For typical streetcar lines, I thought it was just a matter of embedding rails into a slab of concrete. The utilities I'm thinking of shouldn't be that shallow. If that's the case, then fair enough. :)

I haven't been to Wreck beach for years. I've always thought of it as creepy during the day and freaky at night. I like the view out into Georgia Straight though.

Creepy? Well depends on how open minded you are I guess. You'd be suprised who goes there, pretty average people, alot of UBC kids too since its so close by. I'd say about 1/3 stay clothed. Excellent place to skim board!

^ It's been awhile, so maybe things have changed for the better. Spanish Banks is also a nice skim board spot - I've tried it once. You wouldn't have to carry your board all the way down that trail. Also, none of those ugly naked people. ;)
