I see our newspapers are up to their normal tricks again - they are the first to criticise and destroy the characters of everyone else but when they make a mistake no one seems to say anything.

Todays mistake came from the Sunday Mirror:

A national paper had to pull some of its editions after wrongly identifying a man as the so-called "Lotto rapist".
Iorworth Hoare, 52 and originally from Leeds, won £7m on Lotto Extra in 2004 and was released from jail in March.

A Sunday Mirror article claimed to show Hoare "on the loose" on a UK seafront, but used pictures of the wrong man.

The paper put a new lead on most other first editions after realising its error, a Sunday Mirror spokesman said. He would not comment further.

Hoare had been serving life after being convicted of attempted rape in 1989 and is understood to have been released on strict conditions under a life licence.

He was also jailed several times for a string of sex attacks, including rape, during the 1970s and 1980s.

The Sunday tabloid alerted the BBC about its mistake on Saturday night so that it would not use the incorrect report in its newspaper reviews.

It is thought the first editions displaying the wrong picture reached a few parts of Britain, including the central England and Tyne Tees areas, the spokesman explained.

A total of 95% of the first editions were recalled or changed, he said.

The mirror must be the most irresponsible newspaper ever.

so 5% are not. guess which newspaper is going to be sued for a seven figure sum starting monday.

I always thought the Sun was the scummiest newspaper there is but it just goes to show that a left wing newspaper can upstage all the others when it wants to. The mirror is a real left wing scumfest of the highest order.

It's not just the nationals that are out of order. Even my local newspaper The Congleton Chronical two months ago published the address of someone who had been done for looking at child porn, only a week later to publish an apology, saying they had printed the wrong address.

It's bad enough printing articals that will encourage the mob, but to print the wrong address - you will either get the mob at your door or people saying "well there is no smoke with out fire".

Papers really need to be more responsible.

Has anyone else noticed the connection between typical tits-and-arses type papers and the amount of coverage and prominence given to stories about sex attacks and rape in said papers? Does anyone else think that maybe there is something other than public interest going on with this kind of reporting?
