View Full Version : What's your ambition in life?
Zim Flyer April 17th, 2005, 09:11 PM What's your ambition in life?
Mine is to buy 60 acres of land and build a gold club on it (in the UK) and have a House in Lesotho.
I've just turned 31 and I'm saving up like crazy to ge the money for the land I need, I've set myself a target of 35 to have enough money to do it.
I also want a black wife and lots of coloured kids. :)
Medo April 17th, 2005, 09:24 PM My ambition in life is to be a film director!!!!
Toadboy April 17th, 2005, 09:24 PM Don't save up, use other peoples money.
loureed April 17th, 2005, 09:32 PM I would like to be a sucessful manipulator of the environment whether it is through the vehicle of landscape architecture or urban planning.
Write a great book and have it somewhat read by the public.
I would like to live in either Washington, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, or Manchester UK, eh throw in London as well.
Marry an architect or writer of some sort.
hey, how boring. I'll do a follow up later on.
Zim Flyer April 17th, 2005, 09:38 PM Don't save up, use other peoples money.
You are spot on Toadboy, everytime I think I am getting somewhere, property and land prices keep going up.
I really want to do it in this country but at farm land now going at £5K an acre and I need minimum of 60 (for a nine hole course) it is getting harder and harder.
I am to have at least a healthy chunk of cash in four years, so investers / future members will take me seriously.
Rigadon April 17th, 2005, 09:39 PM Is lesotho expenisve?
DonQui April 17th, 2005, 09:45 PM To depose Medo from Chairmanship of CAFSR in a bloodless coup. Just joking great leader! :master:
Toadboy April 17th, 2005, 09:48 PM Getting planning may be tough for a golf course and it'll be a massive cash burn before you can start reporting a profit never mind being able to take anything out. Use your cash for operating the business but borrow to buy the land (theorectically the land value will increase much quicker than the cost of the loan).

I do not rule by fear, I am not a ruthless dictater. But if you ever make a joke like that again I will Destroy You!!!! :)
SkyscraperGuy April 17th, 2005, 09:49 PM To create a brand new city or town in the UK with alot of skyscrapers. :)
Monkey April 17th, 2005, 09:58 PM I've been working on a science fiction novel - on and off - for the last 7 years or so, and would love to see it published one day.
Zim Flyer April 17th, 2005, 10:20 PM Is lesotho expenisve?
No property is really cheap, although consumer products are expensive.
It has two big requirements for me, it is mountanous, so when it gets hot it's more the dry heat then humid heat, plus it is a constitutional monarcy with a young King, so should be stable.
Getting planning may be tough for a golf course and it'll be a massive cash burn before you can start reporting a profit never mind being able to take anything out. Good points cheers Toadboy, I will come to you for advice in a few years time.
Re planning permision It should be OK, I did some research last year and there is a very high return of courses being given planning permission, because you are making a committment not to build on the land. Conversion of farm buildings is the tricky bit.
I plan to include an environmental aspect to the ground increase my chances of getting permission and with a bit of help the odd grant.

I know eusebius, if I was in dream mode, I would go for a cricket ground in lesotho.
That's my heart speaking but my brain says I would make more money from a golf course (well it would pay for itself) at least.
by the way, on the BBC cricket site, there is a great interview with the best Dutch cricketer the world has ever seen - Roland lefrebre and his optimism about the state of European cricket.
eusebius April 17th, 2005, 11:33 PM hmm, Steven Lubbers was a much better bastman actually, perhaps before your time. I don't agree. Lefevre is #2 in my notebook.
So, you're only in it for the money :ohno: If you want to set up anythiing in the land of Jonty, it has to be cricket related and that's an order!!

aahh but Roland could bowl ball after ball in the same spot - the man is a legend.
I'm seen him interviewed and he has always come over as a great bloke as well.
Don't worry the golf course is a UK project and one day Lesotho could get a small little cricket field curtesy of Zim Flyer, when that happens I will change my username to Lesotho Express.
By the way eusebius what are land prices like in Holland, I guess expensive?
Infected Flinch April 17th, 2005, 11:46 PM Ooo, let's see what I'd want to do...
1) Find Kara, start my life up with her and Carter. (Main priority)
2) Try and get a job that'll sustain the life I want.
3) Finish the Flinch and Friends comic story.
4) Make an animated series with one of my own creations (Flinch would be great to do)
5) Live life as much as I could til I died.
There we go.

Well Mr Flinch, as someone who has given up a life just to make money and live a pretty sad existence as a result, I would heartedly recommend that if there is a chance of finding love you go for it.
I've had my chances in the past and never took em and sometimes think ahh, if only, so go for it mate and good luck to yer.
eusebius April 18th, 2005, 12:00 AM Zimf, you're only 31 years of age.

I'm being very careful not to reveal too much, as I don't want anybody to nick my ideas :) ... But basically, it's set in the future and is based around the colonisation of the solar system. Everything is run by this massive corporation that tries to expand and control everything, by whatever means possible. Sorry, that's all I can say for now. :)
I started work on it back in '98 and I've been adding bits and pieces to it since then. After all this time, it's still just a big collection of ideas and random scenes really - there's still a long way to go before it resembles a finished novel.
I made some major breakthroughs with the plot recently though, and I hope to start making real progress now. I might post a couple of short extracts on here - the story contains some very futuristic scenes, hypertall skyscrapers, massive cityscapes, etc ...
Medo April 18th, 2005, 01:08 AM Sweet!! I wish you all the luck in finishing your novel and getting it published.

Kinda reminds me of the games Colony Wars and G-Police! I'd like to see it finished...now. lol

Zim, you've not touched the extent of your life yet! Live it to the full!
alphaxion April 18th, 2005, 01:31 AM to finally get round to writing my thoughts and theories on robotics, the path we are heading on and the issues of the mental health it will have an effect on and be regarded on the same level as isaac asimov.
As well as simply scribble down my thoughts and theories for others to read about before my time comes to an end in my early 30's which will hopefully expand peoples minds and bring about an end social poisons like organised religion and the fear of thinking about things that people feel too depressed to contemplate.
Infected Flinch April 18th, 2005, 01:34 AM Get a journal and write it down in your spare time. That's what I normally do with anything I get creative or anything else for that matter...it usually makes you feel better when you do it too.
alphaxion April 18th, 2005, 01:36 AM I'm too lazy to write it all down... I'll sit down and begin writing when I'll get distracted by something else!!

I can testify to that, writing my thoughts down has helped me out a few times, i'm sure Dave will concur there, as I let him read it :D
Caiman April 18th, 2005, 01:44 AM To get the fuck out of this shithole of a country and teach English as a foreign language somewhere else. First I will take advantage of the education system here, get my degree, let the government mugs pay me six grand to train as a teacher, work here for a couple of years with a class full of chavs and then get the fuck away for eternity.
Monkey April 18th, 2005, 01:49 AM Sweet!! I wish you all the luck in finishing your novel and getting it published.
Thanks. :)
Be_Happy April 18th, 2005, 02:19 AM Well I have three weeks of school left to get a B in maths in order to get into an Architecture course at Strathclyde Uni. I missed about 3 months of school because i've been ill, so, unless i get a move on, I don't see me getting the B. :(
I'm off to Toronto for 3 months this summer regardless if I get the B. If I don't get my B i'll be off to college to have another attempt. If I can't be arsed doing that, i'll probably just settle for another design type course at uni/college or become a professional bum.
After all this, I wanna travel: Mumbai, Tokyo, Sydney, Beijing, Shanghai are at the top of my list. once i've done my travelling, i'll get me a house in Barcelona and that'll be me - happy.
Blunther April 18th, 2005, 10:36 AM I want to get rid of this perpetual cold and have a good belly laugh for the first time in years.
Karate_Kev April 18th, 2005, 12:18 PM my goal in life is to have a goal in life.
loureed April 18th, 2005, 01:23 PM To mimic as much as possible the lifestyle of Kevin in "St. Elmo's Fire."

Fucking Poof!
Only joking, that sounds great.
My goals are thus:
1. Consult or be involved with the implementation of a mass transit system, preferably tram, in a city i like. Hopefully Norwich.
2. Win a ProEvo tournament against my friends in Yarmouth
3. Feel happy about myself and the people i'm with
4. Pound some broads
5. Try Panda meat
6. Obtain the Holy Grail
7. Find and consume the perfect lasagne
8. Own a bungalow on the east coast
9. Use the bungalow as a base for my evil scheme to rob the world bank of £1,000,000,000 and destroy the major capital cities of the world
10. Die
caw123 April 18th, 2005, 05:50 PM I suppose my ambition is to have the whole world know of the genius within my brain.
But I'm a naive teenager, I know nothing about life.
