Ahhhh yes.. springtime has FINALLY arrived in Alaska. We've sure been through a lot have we not? No this is no rhyming poem.. Its just a HUGE relief that the sun has came back after 7 months of darkness.. But hey, its no wonder Alaska has the highest alcohol consumption statistics in America... But for Alaska's largest city in particular, this is always a special time of the year.. unlike the summer, we are more appreciate of the sun.. kids are playing outside, construction projects resume.. its as if giving the sun a hug as it comes out of the terminal gate at the airport.. you truley missed it.

i'm surprised to see sunlight at 9 pm in the springtime. i thought march and april had average time periods for sunlight (maybe 6 am to 8 pm or so)?

There seems to be a whole lot of construction going on ... either in progress or recently finished! :cool:

Can you tell us/show us how you guys survive in the dark for sooooo long? How does life differ from us ordinary people who live closer to the equator.

As for the alcohol consumption... it's probably more because of the cold rather than the dark.

^ I hear a lot of people smoke pot there too. But that's most likely a wife's tale. I hope to visit there someday. I think I would maybe even like living there. I don't know, I have a strong pull to that state, and your pics just reinforce it.

well when it comes to pot, there is a bit of a culture I suppose.. I've never smoked it, but its certainly out there..

as for living here, in December the sun rises at 11AM and sets at 2PM which is pretty depressing.. its no wonder the S.A.D. (Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder) medical lamps are popular up here.. also we even have coined the word 'Cabin Fever' which is basically depression of being stuck indoors all winter.. it can get bad.. but not as bad as Fairbanks (which i visited in November).. that place is plain out ugly in winter..

xzmatt- the sun was setting at 6pm back in early March.. but then we had daylight savings time which ment 9pm saw bright sunlight instead of 7pm in a matter of days.

I would love to visit Anchorage. Just seems like such a unique urban center.

Anchorage has always seemed like such an exotic place to me. Although, it's quite remarkable that Anchorage has a comparable climate to that of where I'm from, here in Minneapolis. I would suppose the summers are a tad cooler there.

Very nice! Anchorage seems to be growing quite nicely. Hope they build taller, although I doubt it. Density issues I assume.
