Exactly! Actually my opinions of Dubai have improved after this thread as this is the first time iv ever seen pics of actual Dubai, rather than the tacky disneyland type feel of the usual Dubai pics.

but the place seems so empty, especially the streets, i cant fine a singlie person walking around on the foot path
The place is not really empty, i just like to make this pic with no people in it to make the pics more mystic and more nice. If someone with traditional clothes walked truh this area i would make a pic but there were only people with western clothes. So i waited before they left.

Sen April 20th, 2005, 10:11 PM if you post these pics earlier there wouldn't the dicussions like "what's so special about dubai?".
those skyscrapers are REALLY REALLY nice, the yeah, the city is so green, i dont care if it's natural or not, as long as it's green.
it is a little empty though, it doesnt have that kind of hustle feelings , but it's very organized and clean, which i like.
i only saw the some of the pics btw, due to my slow internet connection, and they already impressed me.

Nick in Atlanta April 21st, 2005, 01:54 AM Fantastic job Tom!! I don't know how you took so many fantastic photos in just three days. You had so many perfect locations for the photo.
Truly great stuff! But I have to say that I think this photo of the wooden boat was one of my favorites. I haven't seen a photo of a wooden object that captured its beauty so well.
http://tinypic.com/4jkh6o
GaryinSydney April 21st, 2005, 01:56 AM Great pics Tom! I nearly booked a stopover there yesterday, and would love to go, just seems one of those places that will forever be a building site though? & i'd hate to miss out so held off and plumped for KL/SGP again instead!
Raza April 21st, 2005, 02:30 AM Fantastic job Tom!! I don't know how you took so many fantastic photos in just three days. You had so many perfect locations for the photo.

This is a pool of water on the basement of Emirates Towers, that falls down over the edge, creating a 50 meters wide, 10 meters high waterfall. One of the best aspect of the Tower's complex that is always ignored.

Skopie April 21st, 2005, 10:39 PM Wow, I love the old town, didn't realize Dubai had much of an old town, I sure hope they keep it. Great pictures, but I still find it hard to like this city, purely because from a personal point of view, I realy dislike the skyscraper architecuture, It's hideous. But never the less, this city has gonna up hugely in my estimation, nice to see some pictures of the real Dubai, not just photos of towers.

Bahraini Spirit April 22nd, 2005, 08:15 PM Man, you've done a great job, you've as others already said and I've said in your thread in the UAE forum just taken the best set of pics of Dubai. This should give the people a view of older Dubai which they don't seem to see.
Bahraini Spirit April 22nd, 2005, 08:40 PM Really fabulous pictures of Dubai. :eek2: I would love to visit but I am a bit hesitant. How well are Westerner's, women in particular, treated?

Don't worry at all, in the gulf, western women are treated without any problems, thousands live there and in Dubai, it's no exception, trust me, you'll feel at home and probably you wouldn't want to leave ;). Hope this helps you and hey don't be afraid, no one will bite :D.
Raza April 22nd, 2005, 09:23 PM dubai is home to more then 100,000 europeans.

zulu69 April 23rd, 2005, 03:10 AM Great pics. The place looks magical. An almost perfect blend of the West and the middle eastern culture. There would be no doubt that it would be a great place to visit. I repect ppl who take control of their own destiny and thats what Dubai is doing.
MattSal April 23rd, 2005, 03:43 AM  OMFG! Why did you withhold these pics in the first place? ;)

superchan7 April 24th, 2005, 01:46 AM I don't think that quite answers the question of how people cross SZR...unless that one pedestrian bridge is what you're talking about.
Maybe there are underground walkways?
Excellent pictures. Very large variety, and lots of exotic cars in the UAE.

Machiavel October 26th, 2005, 09:26 PM Is Dubai an expensive city?
Dubai_Boy October 26th, 2005, 09:38 PM Dubai is cheaper than any well known american city , or european , or australian city for that matter , cheaper than japan
so there you go :) and no it isnt expensive , u can have lots of fun and spend almost nothing , or go wild and spend a million in under an hour :)
malec October 26th, 2005, 09:44 PM It's made out to be really expensive because of burj al arab and some others. There are a good few expensive 5* there but there are also some that aren't so expensive. I've seen rates of 60 euros a night for some 4* there

mopc October 28th, 2005, 06:15 PM Spectacular, orderly, modern and nice. The entire middle east should be like that.
mongozx October 29th, 2005, 02:27 AM Dubai is nice. I went there in '98. A lot of Dubai bashers out there don't really know what the city is all about. It's very new but very very ambitious as well. The culture is pretty fascinating and the Western influence (shopping malls, cars, highways, sprawl) is pretty evident. I do wonder how they will fill up all those hi-rises with residents and workers. Where are the jobs coming from? I know tourism and a free port provides the employment but it seems like they're building for a wave of millions of immigrants.

philip October 29th, 2005, 08:36 AM Camel, Sandy Beach, Pristine Ocean, and Skyscrapers. Oh My God, It's a Mirage !!!
Andrew October 29th, 2005, 07:07 PM That is very impressive, it's so good to see Dubai's older areas as well as it's towers. It really looks like an impressive city. All it needs now is a state of the art public transport system to comlement it's other infrastructure. The pics are absolutely fabulous! Much greener than I expected as well, I thought it would be all concrete but it's not. Of course it's not natural greenery, it's built in a desert but that doesn't matter.
DecoJim December 10th, 2005, 04:51 PM Amazing photos!
The pictures showing an entire row of skyscrapers under construction is mind- boggling!
I can't help but see the irony in comparing the fate of my Detroit with that of Dubai.
* Detroit was once the automotive capital of the world and now cannot make any money from the car business. We struggle just to preserve the buildings and skyscrapers we have.
* Dubai is building itself from the oil profits made from selling the fuel to run the cars that Detroit, more than any other city, was responsible for.
The people in Dubai are smart to diversify while the oil supply lasts.
Tom_Green December 10th, 2005, 08:41 PM Amazing photos!

not every city has little pieces of gold hidden in the water ;)
this city is in one word fucking amzing.
I think its a glimp of the future, how cities wil be build and look like in the whole world. But i think this city is going to have a strong vegas or miami twist..a very bad side of a city.
Intoxication December 10th, 2005, 10:21 PM Tom you've taken the best pics od dubai i've ever seen. ur a Natural Photographer.

DecoJim December 11th, 2005, 04:25 AM Do you just believe that what you have said is true or have you read it somewhere ?
I read an article about how the United Arab Emirates is planning for the future by emphasizing tourism since oil revenues will eventually decrease when the oil reserves start to run out. I also watched a TV show (Megastructures?) about the construction of the Palm Island resort where the narrator may have made a similar statement about having a strong tourism industry that would last past the age of oil. I do not remember the exact wording.
If you want to correct me on anything, go ahead. I am from Detroit, I can take it! If the funding for the building boom is not comming from oil revenues, I would be very curious to know how the financing was arranged. Please use plain language and provide details, as I am not the sharpest pencil in the box!
Nivek September 6th, 2006, 02:14 PM I dont know how to qoute pictures can someone tell me how?...but anywayz the picture of the poster of Burj Dubai on post #59 has buidings from Sydney if you look closer...can someone tell me why? :dunno:

man some people are still so misinformend about dubai. Dubai ecnomy is only 7% based on oil, so almost nothing will happen when it runs out.
UnitedPakistan September 7th, 2006, 02:29 AM Dubai just seems fake honestly perhaps its just because they have so much damn urbanization in such a large area. Just my opinion though...
Very Controversial September 7th, 2006, 08:54 AM Dubai is one of the best cities in the world.

pakboy September 7th, 2006, 05:30 PM OMG!!! Nice frick'n job dude!! Awesome pictures!!! Wonder what will happen to Dubai when the oil runs dry??
nothing, forgein investment will keep flowing in, and oil is not the only factor which contributes to UAE, dubai has become the 5th largest tourist attracter in the world and should be no.1 by 2010, they will make more money from tourism then oil.
and dubai is not the only country with Oil theres kuwait, qatar, bahrain, iran, iraq, russia (the largest), usa, mexico, usa who all have more oil then dubai and its not oil which makes there economy.
smussuw September 7th, 2006, 05:43 PM dubai has become the 5th largest tourist attracter in the world and should be no.1 by 2010, they will make more money from tourism then oil.

SZR = Shiekh Zayed Road
Yes English is widely spoken and understood ...... it might be 5-10 degrees hotter during summer compared to Singapore but we dont have as much humidity as they do in Singapore.
