Good but nothing special. Pretty plain overhall, lacking in charm. Lack the mysterious aura like Paris, Rome or Vienna. London is more a functional and earthly city.

What next are you going to common my taste. This is my opinion mate and London is not a very beautiful, it more a functional city rather one with charm. are you going to ban me just because as most non-English find London rather unattractive. And how that make me a troll, I'm I obliged to love London, I'm I oblige to say something is beautiful when I find it mediocre, who are you a tyrant or a fool. How dare you call me a troll when I'm just expressing my opinion without being vulgar. Is it criticism is not tolerated here, I'm not breaking any rules of the forum. Neither I'm I insulting anyone. :bash:

Maybe the frivolous postcard-type charm is not its trademark... But London has its unique, very special aura. Yes, it is mysterious. It draws serious attention and attracts regardless of one's specific architectural tastes. It's so serene, apparently so classic and solemn on the surface at least... But one wonders if there's also something wild pulsating there, somewhere close to those monumental areas depicted in this thread. The answer must be - yes, London has many faces.

I think it is a leading world metropolis to be discovered over & over again throughout a full lifetime. London escapes easy conclusions.

As for Vienna, where I spent several weeks - well, it's nice, picturesque, historical and very well kept... But frankly, "mysterious" is the last quality I would give to it. When I was there, I always had the impression that it was exactly what Walt Disney would produce, if someone asked him to reconstruct "A Perfect Fin-De-Siecle Capital of a Former-European-Continental-Multinational-Empire". So where's the mystery? Once my eyes were satisfied with the sight of pretty buildings, a sense of sleepy boredom and emptiness increasingly prevailed.

That never happens when I see London.

Thanks for warm reactions about my photos! :)

As for the "charm" I don't undearstand what Quezalcoatl26 is talking about. London is an amazing city and this is caused not by functionality, it definitely has its charm. Is there another city in the world with so many wonderful parks, such beautiful and pleasant suburbs and such a wonderful mix of old and new architecture? Combining all this there is simply NO city in the world which could beat it. We might have perfect old (Paris, Vienna), or loads of shiny new skyacrapers (Hong Kong) but London has it all and it's all so harmonic and makes such a nice mix. Be it only my personal opinion but it's true! :)

Doesn't change the fact that London isn't a great tourists destination, for the same reason london is a dull city, no matter how much they try they seem to get wrong.

But it IS a great tourist city and it gets more tourists than any other city in Europe. You either haven't been to London or haven't been there enough to see how great and wonderful it is. ;)

You've only made 8 posts so far, but already you're proving yourself to be a troll.

If you don't have anything nice to say, then stay out of this thread. Consider this a warning, by the way - I'm a moderator and I will recommend you for a brigging/banning if you keep up with such ridiculous, antagonizing statements.

Jonas! You're the king! :okay:
Incredible photos of the great city!

Well about the discussion. I think Quezalcoatl26 means the charm of southern cities, and he prefers it more.
I think there is a charm of northern cities too and I like it more! :D

London definitely has got its charm. Actually I love the suburban charm of London outer suburbs (Kingston, Merton). Nothing can be more pleasant as going for a walk in some nice park (London has PLENTY of great parks) and have a rest in natural environment drinking beer and just having fun. :)

London is a Highrise Paris and a Lowrise New York

You can compare London to New York and Paris
But you cant compare Paris and New York

They're my sayings anyway!

Many people mark London down because of its lack of skyscrapers....well in 6-8 years time they will have no reason to mark us down then!

And where do you get your information. Paris is the most visited city not only in europe but in the world. London isn't even the second most visited city in europe it is barcelona. Paris attracted 25 million tourists in 2004.

What I love about London is that from a vantage point in a square or in the middle of a street, with the different elevations of buildings and the organic streets, you get to see a vivid scene of layers that only London could produce. Amazing photographs and a spectacular city.

To even suggest London isn't a major int'l tourist destination is nuts. My opinion is that it's the coolest city in Europe; you get a cutural scene at least the equal of Paris, without the obnoxious attitude. And nothing beats the English sense of humor. Paris is, of course, stunningly beautiful. Just my two cents...

I would expect this from a Parisian. London is world class.
Paris may be Romantic and Mysterious... but it is entirely inferior to London as a CITY. This is the world view.

PARIS = ROMANTIC, MYSTERIOUS.

LONDON = WORLD CLASS CITY.

Quetzalcoatl26...ta gueule maintenant! ça suffit comme ça! (well u r probably not in France but you get my point). One thing is for you to have your opinion and another one is for you to go on and on and on...

and WJFox2002...this wouldn't have started if it wasn't for you...nothing wrong with an opinion

anyway...i get tired of London vs Paris rivalry cause i love both cities...especially when the thread isn't even about "London vs Paris" or even on charm...this is a thread on The City, London's financial district...don't expect to much charm to come out of a financial district!

BTW Jonas, do you have bicycle in London and if you have one, then how is it to ride in the greenery of suburbs and in the city overall? I think it would be a very nice experience to ride in the parks and streets of London.
Quezalcoatl26, what's your point you are trying to tell us? OK stay with your opinion and everyone who has a different one is allowed to keep his/her own, but such a "discussion" is pointless, we've heard your opinion already and it should be enough for us. Lets cool down for a while folks and be friendly with each other, right?

Great. That's the part of the city I stayed in last year, Blackfriar's tube station. Very charming and old world.
