View Full Version : Why is the forum so slow?
Talisker April 19th, 2005, 09:21 PM Over the last week or so I've noticed the forum has slowed down to the point of being almost unusable. It takes a minute or so for each page to load up. Even on broadband it's slowed right down. I know it's not a general problem becuase all other sites I use work at the normal speed - it's only SSC that has the problem.
Is this just me or does anyone else notice the forum slowing down?
urbane April 19th, 2005, 09:35 PM I have the same problem. I also have the issue that often the link to specific forums and threads don't work efficiently: I often get the "Page not found" message and I have to try 3 or 4 times until I can see a thread. I encounter the same problem when posting on threads. It's all rather frustrating.
Phobos April 19th, 2005, 09:45 PM the same crap is happening with me.I am getting very nervous 'cause of that :(
kiretoce April 19th, 2005, 10:44 PM --ditto--

Jan April 20th, 2005, 06:32 PM We're working on a three server setup for the forums to cope with growth, we're just awaiting the third one (= second web server). After this is connected, the ever growing forums should be back on speed. Thanks for your patience. :)

DaiTengu April 5th, 2007, 05:19 PM Bloody hell, whoever dug this thread up needs to be drawn & quartered, castrated, shot, bled, and then REALLY hurt.
Next person that sends me into a blind panic, dies.

yes, it's called the complexity of growth.
now that we have not just deciated servers, but entire rings of servers dedicated to differing parts of the site, it is very, very complex to set up and program to all work perfectly.
It's kind of like driving a car... driving a car isn't very hard, but it still takes some skill... Well, imagine having to drive 7 cars down 7 different roads in perfect unison, all at the same time... otherwise the whole thing crashes... Not so easy.
Sorry it's such a pain in the butt folks, but we can't help it that the site is so popular and grows so FAST.
THERENNAISSANCEMAN April 7th, 2007, 02:38 PM I think you must get a life, also i don't see problem with Jan's Writing.

I READILY ASSUME THAT MOST OF YOUR VOLUMINOUS POSTS ARE MOSTLY LIKE THE ONES YOU POSTED JUST NOW.....EMPTY ONE-LINERS:nuts:

We're working on a three server setup for the forums to cope with growth, we're just awaiting the third one (= second web server). After this is connected, the ever growing forums should be back on speed. Thanks for your patience.Nice to tell that we're getting our 7th server this week. This new one will be a new web server so we won't have to wait untill things slow down this time, one old webserver will also be the new fun project server. :)
THERENNAISSANCEMAN April 7th, 2007, 07:11 PM Why did you bring this 2 year old thread back?
NOTHING MUCH...I JUST NOTICED THAT ADMINISTRATORS ARE THE ONES WHO ARE SOURCE OF BELLIGERENT REPLIES FROM THEIR MEMBERS BY SETTING A BAD EXAMPLE , JUST LOOK AT HOW JAN REPLIED TO MY HONEST QUERIES ( I EVEN THANKED HIM FOR IT IF HE COULD OFFER AN EXPLANATION ) ITS APALLING THAT ADMINISTRATORS AROUND HERE ARE ONLY AS DOWNRIGHT ARROGANT AS THE PEOPLE THEY ACCUSE OF THEREBY ESCALATING THE CONFLICT. NOT TO MENTION "REINFORCEMENTS " ADDED ON BY THEIR FRIENDS TO TOP THINGS OFF. SIMPLE AS THAT

NOW THIS IS THE KIND OF REPLY THAT PEOPLE AROUND HERE SHOULD SET AN EXAMPLE TO , POLITE , INFORMATIVE , HONEST , BUT MOST OF ALL FULL OF SENSE WITHOUT BEING SO INTIMIDATINGLY ARROGANT ABOUT IT.
MORE POWER TOYOU , MAN.
