And as the title promised, the magic-hour--the 10-20 minutes after sunset. These photos show the progression of darkness during those minutes.

Shanghai is phenomenal!!!

Great pictures of normal scenery. The glitzy towers and their surroundings are great, but few actually spend time around them. After all, often they are accompanied by the lack of street-level activity.

^not too sure about occupancy rate, but they must have their fair share considering how many chinese people there are!

(yes that was a joke)

I honestly don't know...I don't live or work in Pudong

y Steady rental increase continued, vacancy at historic low
Due to steady demand and limited supply average Grade A
office rents increased by 1.3% over the two months to March
2005. Central Puxi remained the best performing location
with rental increases of 1.9% on average. The vacancy rate
for Grade ‘A’ offices fell to 5.9% in March from 6.5% in
January 2005. Central Puxi CBD still has the lowest vacancy
rate of 4%.
y Strong pre-leasing activities in Lujiazui CBD
More than 60% of the office space in the Citigroup Tower has
been pre-leased, the building will be completed in June 2005.
Azia Centre developed by GIC of Singapore has also
enjoyed rapid absorption with approximately 120,000 sq.m.
pre-leased over the last two months.
y Suburban office becomes more popular
More and more MNCs are seeking new offices in suburban
areas due to limited vacant space available for their
expansion plans and increasing costs. Zhangjiang Building
located in Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park in Pudong, has reached
more than 60% commitment prior to its official completion in
March 2005. eBay recently took 6,000 sq.m in Zhangjiang
while Unilever plans to move its China Headquarter to
Hongqiao Linkong Park in 2007.
y Major infrastructure projects to be completed in 2005
Shanghai plans to construct 50 major infrastructure projects
in 2005, among which 25 projects are planned to be
completed in 2005. The project list includes Phase 1 of
Yangshan Port, Puxi Section of Middle Ring Road, Shanghai
South Railway Station, Suzhou Creek Clean-up Scheme,
Xiangyin Road Tunnel, Highway A6, A7 and A9.

Nice contrasts in the photos... I really like how we get to see the parts of Puxi that we don't normally see. The Pudong skyline is looking AMAZING!!! Its getting more and more dense and more and more impressive. Great photos!!! Keep em coming!

your photos are top-quality..... great composition and clarity. i esp. like the juxtaposition of the old residential quarters with the glittering, ultra-modern highrises in the background. and the pudong skyline time-lapse shots are postcard quality.....

these photos definitely show that shanghai's skyline is going to be THE skyline of the future.

Shanghai is undergoing an old urban area renovation process. Everywhere you see construction sites. The run-down houses in the pics, especially those occupying prime sites, will not stand there for long.

Decently full, as far as daytime activity goes. The buildings are dark because it is evening; Chinese buildings are more likely to shut its lights after closing, unless otherwise requested by government.

The juxtaposition, and the quality and composition!

These are not typical Shanghai pictures. Accolades for taking them! :)

I think due to power shortage issues the city wouldn't allow offices to leave lights on if no one is there.
