A strange project.
It is in between the CBD (Behind, isn't right?) and the ChangJian river, two interresting attractions, but it seems to ignore both of them!!!
* Why not put the motorway below the building, one way or another? It just prevents the building benefitting from the great scenery over the river.
*There seems to be one street coming from the cbd, and instead of making a persective down the river they decided to put the "ugly tower" in the middle. It lacks something to open up to the cbd, people can't get easily from the upper street to the riverside pedestrian zone. If they do so it is through the building, so urbanistically speaking isn't it a problem of conception?
* To facilitate the communication between the two areas, two options could have been considered : a system of stairs and roof-terraces to take advantage of the 3rd dimension of the land, and the landscape. Still this could be done with chinese traditionnal architecture.
Or a pedestrian way down the river which means a smaller slope : the building would actually have to be built over the motorway, so this would be much bigger.
* Last but not least, the riverside pedestrian access is 10 meters away from the motorway! The waterfall should help cover the noise, but a place next to the river should be the isolated romantic quiet place in a big crowdy and noisy, shouldn't it?
Regarding this issue I really consider the Wuhan (Hankou) Chang Jiang Square as a real success. But this funny project seems to fail to meet the main urbanistic challenge in Chongqing : reuniting the city and the river. :runaway:

i love this. china must stop with the ugly towers and promote their own traditional architecture and why not make towers with that style

no doubt that this will become a landmark

It's not by piling up old stuff you can make new landmarks, is it?
I mean I know traditionnal chinese architecture that looks much nicer, modern and aesthetic than this.
But maybe in an ocean of rationalism, this one stands a chance.

I think this is a great proiject and one that China badly needs.

Too much traditional architecture has been destroyed to make space for modern yet anonymous non descriptive high rises that could well be in Portland or Mexico City.

China needs to find a way to combine modernity and its own specific identity and this could be a step forward in that direction.
