The firm of architects conceived the general plan of the project for this mixed use superblock, situated in a lot of 15 hectares in the centre of Jakarta and later developed the 46 floor office tower, currently the highest in Indonesia. With its characteristic deck topped with a mast and its volumetry of light granite and the blue reflective curtain wall, this building is the most significant landmark of the Jakarta skyline. The regular shape of the plan, which introduces the solid facade treatment, complements the design of the coronation of the building.

It is currently the tallest in Jakarta and Indonesia.
Nice building, but i kinda wish there was more density around it. It looks taller than it actually is. I know that coz i drive by it every week!! In fact, Jakarta needs a more clustered skyline...

I rate it 9/10. Looks really cool in person!! Way better than in pics coz you can see the detailing so much clearer....

I would imagine this would look better in person. The white facade detracts from it IMO. 7.0 for me.

I agree with you guys that the white facade is annoying in pictures, but look at the building in person. You will truly appreciate that white facade. Too bad i cant find that many pics but this is a really nice building.:D

that thing about the Parker Pen tenant seems funny to me. Was the building owned by Parker or something?

BNI Center is truly one of the buildings with unique design. It is impressive..I like the design on top.

I give it 8 out of 10

I'll rate it 8/10. I'm not sure if I like the white facade's shape at the bottom... I also don't think the top of the building (round shape) is as nice looking as possible. It would have been a bit nice, if it was totally round imo.

Looking away from a few small things that could have been better, I really like BNI Center. A building that I could have designed my self;)

I never heard of it being called a boat sail...That is interesting, Damien.:D

All I know that it is supposed to resemble a Fountain Pen coz a lot of Indonesians here call it "gedung pena" which means pen building or Fountain pen building. And i heard from developers that it is a fountain pen resemblence. I also heard Parker Pen is one of the major tenants...:D

Ough! I just went inside the building the other week and it's terrible!! The interior is ugly!! It looks like a cheap low cost lobby for a low cost apartment....

This building does seem kinda "awkward" but it is quite different. ->7.5/10

6.5/10 - The building has good height, and I like the glass section of the facade, but the shape of the top part, especially that liittle spire on top, might take a bit of getting used to. And the rest of the facade is rather dull - I think they should have used glass all the way down.

Yes, the top of this building is supposed to represent a BOat Sail. Why? because BNI's (Bank Nasional Indonesia) logo is a boat sail.....and why has it fot 46 floors? cos BNI was established in 1946. Get it?!

However large you make the local characteristic element, when combined with this base the total still looks awkward.

Something of an ambassador for Jakarta, it looks sleek yet imposing and strong at he bottom half or so. The top fits in well for me, unusual although I feel it is a bit tacky??

Pretty much for its landmark qualities and for that top. It's really a distinctive profile which stands out among the skyscrapers in this world.

I'm not so crazy about the white part of the facade.. and it seems so detatched from the rest of the blue part... in a way that I don't like.

the glass portion of the building seems somethat detatched from the masonry portion. from far away, it looks like a penguin sticking his head up high. but still, it deserve some points for its innovativeness.

I really like it. The idea is clever, adn the spire is a modern spire that looks good, not like it was added just to gain height. I like the two building look, but the white is somewhat unattractive, but the glass itself is nice. I like how both shapes and sizes work together. A great building.

Er, I'm afraid not. The building has nothing to do with a fountain pen. I know because I'm with DPA, one of the architects of the building and I was in charge of this project.

The top was modified from the original (which had glass going all the way to the top) to accomodate a facade cleaning system at the top. The revised design at the top was just something we liked. I did think subsequently that it looked a bit like a pen nib though I thought it looked more like a Sheafer nim ;-) Still, like most design inspirations that tend to get associated with buildings, a pen metafor would be a retrofited association!

The curved glassy part doesn't integrate too well in the not-curved glassy part. The non-glassy part doesn't integrate too well with the glassy part. The spire doesn't integrate well at all - except at night.
It seems to me that too many good ideas were squeezed together in this building, and the result is not so good. Night look is OK.

Im not really a fan of the top mainly because the onion shape is poorly executed and situated, making for alot of bad angles in my opinion. I also agree that it looks like two buildings and lacks cohesive style between the glass and white stone materials used. Already considering this is Jakarta's tallest, I can only give this a 7.5/10

The top of BNI Tower is inspired from the traditional ship of indonesia called "PINISI" it was the icon of BNI .... so... its so cool and futuristic in real... i've seen it closely and amazing.... but.... The Newest Tower called "The Peak" at Sudirman Jakarta also will beat that tower. it's about 333 metres. awsome design.....
