This is pretty cool...it's like a table top of water with concrete benches surrounding.

The VAST open lawn is awesome.

I Love this grass mound at the very end of the park.

Love the spring colours.

Public washrooms - Nice waterfall for just some bathrooms! These are the small things that make Vancouver stand apart from the rest.

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/529/5543042125.jpg

Now this is an element of New Urbanism in my opinion. High density communities, with suburban like sports fields right in the middle of downtown for people to go out and enjoy.

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/529/5543042127.jpg

You'd think with how lush and green things are, it's the middle of summer...hells no, this is April in Vancouver!

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/529/5543042128.jpg

A better shot of the soccer fields

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/529/5543042129.jpg

Continuing along the seawall...more homes

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/529/5543042131.jpg

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/529/5543042134.jpg

The cool thing about this is that at night, the bottom perimetre of the stone sidewalk is illuminated in light that fades between colours every few seconds.

Ouch...check out these prices... $600,000 for 1,000 sq ft. OUCH. $4 Million for 5,000 sq ft.

heh, biometric access! Like I said before folks, Vancouver is ahead of the curve.

Not sure if these are going to be retail or residential units. Nonetheless this is on the soon-to-be completed Vancouver Film Centre and Brava Towers on Seymour.

Great pictures Man! My father lives in one of those Condos overlooking David Lam Park with the soccer field! Great views great pictures! As beautiful as Vancouver is from the skyline pictures with the mountians in the background! It is equally as nice from the ground!
These pictures prove that! Good job!

Vancouver has an urban resort feel to it. The architecture and public space has a polished and squeeky-clean aesthetic to it.

I am coming to Vancouver for the U2 concert next week. I can't wait. It has been 4 years since I have been there.

Westcoast - Awesome pics! In the second pic from the bottom is that the only trachy or is there more there? And if there is, are they all the same size?

Josh - I will also be going to U2 next week. My username is hint at how much of a fan I am. It's going to be awesome! Have a great time at the show and Vancouver.

That really depends on where you go. This area yes, but some parts of Downtown are far from it. I'll do additional tours soon of other areas and you will see the diversity from district to district. This would be the most clean cut area in the city.

Thanks, yeah there are plenty more, I only took pics in one small section of the seawall. I will do a tour of the seawall as it continues on the other side of the Granville St bridge next which is where all the sub-tropicals are. It goes from clean cut urban - to california themed. Most trachy's are about 10 feet tall, with the tallest in that area at around 25 feet.

Great pics, thanks.

BTW - the pavillion with the washrooms is more than that -its the City of Vancouver's earthquake fire protection system pumping station. Basically, that's the intake from False Creek for a saltwater fire hydrant system that was built in the downtown during the 1990s - to be used after the "big one" (when all the conventional fire hydrants fail). The hydrants are scattered around specific routes downtown - you can recognize them as the bright blue hydrants. I think there's one near Homer & Georgia at Library Square. A couple of times a year, the City tests the system and sprays a huge 20 storey high plume of saltwater into the air at David Lam Park.

 . The seawall is great. The ability to walk around False Creek and go far beyond... in either direction along the waters edge is fantastic.

I regularly play soccer at David Lam during the winter season. It's one of the best settings for a game of footy. The dogs can be a problem - with their digging and poop... Unfortunately, this is the only grass playing field in the area, so it takes a beating. There is Andy Livingstone, which has a couple astro turf pitches, but they're more suited for field hockey.

I notice there is almost no human activity in that 'vast' grassy area. Maybe it's different on weekends. It just goes to show that having playing fields or courts are more useful than these type of areas. Maybe there is a point to them, I just don't see it.

^ I think part of the reason is because the park just opened last week or so, not many people know about it yet. Even if it is underused, its still great to have that vast open lawn all to yourself in the middle of downtown :)

Those are incredible pictures, some of the few photographs that accurately capture the atmosphere and apperance of Vancouver. I think Vancouver is a city you have to visit to get the whole feeling; you can't just look at pictures.

By the way, there is a building in Vancouver that uses Biometric security features. I'm not sure of the name of it, but it's that one with the courtyard that slices through the centre. It's two blocks east of Brava I believe.

Thanks. I'm gonna try and post part 2 tommorow. The seawall between Granville Bridge & Denman. I was down there tonight and it was packed...with the great weather tommorow it should be just the same. Best time is around 7-8pm when the sun is going down.

Hey, this thread is fantastic. Can you post this at skyscraperpage in the city photos forum? I want the americans to see what they are missing. :)

Very nice.
And to think that just a few years ago (pre-86) there was nothing there except an old industrial wasteland. In fact, most of this was built in the last 5-10 years.

Nice Jane Jacobs quote! Yeah its amazing how the area has transformed so much in the last 10 years.
