I wish I had a night shot. The lighting is so dramatic.

While it's no longer used as a train station, Saint Louis Union Station in its heyday was the largest and busiest passenger terminal in the world...

Washington, D.C.'s Union Station is the best IMO. It has great shops, restaurants, a beautiful food court, a theater, a beautiful great hall, and I hear you can also catch a train there too. :)

Union Station is great, it used to be in horrendous shape, but the city started to turn around.

Detroit's former main station now abandoned but with serious proposals to revive it. The new station is a little crackerbox outhouse up in New Center (Uptown):

DC's Union Station is just unbelievable. It looks good from both the inside and the outside, and the view from the front entrance toward the Mall is a great way to dazzle visitors.

Oh and KC's union station is still in use as a train station, not like poor Detroit and St. Louis. Oh and KC's main branch of the post office is located here now too.

^Uh, good for KC? BTW, St. Louis's is doing just fine, as a train station or otherwise. At least it's still there and in high-use unlike the ones that are no longer there, or the ones not in use.

From the looks of that picture, the front entrance actually faces away from the city...

Cleveland Union Terminal, in 1930, right after it opened.

In 1970, the year before intercity rail service was relocated to the lakefront, five years before commuter rail service (to Youngstown) was terminated, but....

Intracity, or urban rail transit remains at Cleveland Union Terminal, now called Tower City Center, a mixed-used complex of interconnected retail shops, restaurants, hotels, office buildings and walkways to the professional (allegedly) basketball and baseball stadiums...

Plans are to build a new, intercity and commuter rail station on the Lakefront, near where the existing Amtrak shoebox station is located. The new station also would be served by the existing light-rail Waterfront Line.
