Very bad news indeed, not much to discuss. I hope JR West does everything to avoid this happening again.

If that accident happened during my visit my parants went crazy for sure. I don`t have a mobile phone during my trips.

Anyway though, very sad news. It is definately, as someone said, a huge stain on Japan's reputation for safety. :(

Poirot, it's rosehip soup. Just an expression he used ;)

This is sad news but given the extreme amount of rail traffic in Japan it's inevitable that some large accident will happen. It's still by far the best in the world imo.
