I bloody love elections!

People actually start talking and thinking about things that matter (some people at any rate). There's loadas of interesting debates to watch and everything. I wiszh they were every year! I'm taking the Friday 6th May off this year to stay up all night and watch the results as they come though! I've always wanted to do this, but I've always had school or college or something.

"I bloody love elections" is a superb quote and I totally agree.

I will be staying up as well.

I really like our system, because it is based on constituencies and for once it forces candidates and parties to leave Westminster and go to the constituencies, it is not a national vote, more a collection of local ones and that keeps our politicians honest as regards protecting local hospitals, schools and train stations etc.

I can't wait until next Thursday and unlike Zimbabwe where you have the normal vote and then an extra six hours where dead people are allowed to vote for the ruling party, the UK election will be 98% genuine.

I must confess I'm the kind of person who stays up all night watching the results roll in until we get a result.

I love elections because they give us the illusion that we live in a democracy.

And you can form your tory equivalent of BUM, how about Conservative Union of Noble Taxmen or CUNT for short.

so have I bbut its neverr stopped me. Rather sadly 97 was one of my favourtie ever tv expiernces. Portillo and Mellor going were highlights, Redwood sweating was good but the best thing by far was Peter Snow's new bar chart map. A si rememebr it it showed the majoirty in blue, red or yellow in each constiuency and moved up or down to show the swing. The bar charts exploded when they had to change colour and the the shockign size of the landslide made for this constanct incredible machinegun fire of red blcoks obliterign blue ones ll over the map.

No doubt somebody will fnd a video of it somewhere the internet and will be far less impressive than my memory makes out.

...yeah remember it well. Funny how Portillo was such a hate figure (including myself), hence the jubilation at his fall, and since then he's told us all he 'used to be' a poof, looked after some deprived kiddies for a tv show up North, trotted around a few tv studios before settling down with Diane Abbot - and I now rather like the smirking git. Can people change? O r was he never really what he appeared? mmmm.. :)

I actually like electoins - though like a casual interst in skyscrapers I wouldn't admit it to anyone.

I actually like the build up to wars too - obviously I don't want more wars, but it's interesting when it happens.

...- and I now rather like the smirking git.

yeah I was thinking of putting something similar in brackets - he certianly one of my favourite consevatives today.

I went to a debate in late 1997 which had biggish names like Ken Clarke, John Redwood, and maybe Margaret Beckett but the appluase for any of those was completely dwarfed by that for stephen twigg who people had only ever seen once before- doing his victory speech with Portillo in the background.

the whole Mellor/Jimmy Goldsmith thing must be the best ever live individual result though- Id maybe place it in my top 10 tv moments.

I hate them, but I vote anyway (It's a duty, I don't care what any of you think!). I'd like them more if decent people ran for higher office, but alas, all I get is rich, Ivy League white men more than willing to sell their soul to get (re-)elected.

At least there's good people running at the local level...

Bit boring and predictable but I still sit up and watch the results anyway.

I hate it because the bbc and news channels go mad at everything thats said and half of it doesnt have anything to do with running the country.

I like them, and yet i cannot vote this time round cos I'm not registered here I don't think!

I will probably stay up this year just so i can say I've seen one out..

what irony this is, a vote on what we think about voting.

I think the irony was intentional.
