View Full Version : New Downtown Condo - EDM coldrsx May 2nd, 2005, 02:58 AM http://www.dc5ab.com/forums/uploads/post-4-1114991429.jpg Rhino May 2nd, 2005, 03:10 AM I miss living in Edmonton , not because of weather , but construction . It must be fun to go around every corner and see something new beeing put up . :) Mock May 2nd, 2005, 03:19 AM Excellent, I love how they have the ground level units as well. That'll fit in nicely with the 112/113 st area. coldrsx May 2nd, 2005, 03:21 AM ^105st 98ave ssiguy2 May 2nd, 2005, 04:17 AM Thats great news! For us Edmonton morons where are all these streets? I find ave/street system bloody confusing especially because they don't start from zero and work their way out. Is it possible to say where it is near, like Jasper in Oliver or near an LRT, Stoney Plain. Something with a reference. From what you just said, for me, that conso could be anywhere from Jasper/Stoney Plain to Clairview. All these condo's in Edmonton i have no idea where they are? All the pics of Edmonton show the skyline which doesn't help to find the new construction. Does anyone have a aerial of Edmonton in 2005 so I can sorta get a grasp of where all this develpoment is??? Or atleast give me a link. But it would have to be a new photo from all the construction going on as it must be changing a lot. Thank You........SSIGUY2, AKA Edmonton Map Moron coldrsx May 2nd, 2005, 04:41 AM it is on the hill into downtown on 105st.....about 1/2 way up. ssiguy2 May 2nd, 2005, 05:03 AM Is that near Oliver or on the east side of Edmonton???? ssiguy2 May 2nd, 2005, 05:06 AM Are there any community webpages. ie downtown, oliver, railtown. I don't know where one starts and the other finishes. What do you call the area north of downtown near NAIT. Area along StoneyPlain RD? The area near the farmers market. Are these where all this develpoment is going? ...............HELP! oceanmdx May 2nd, 2005, 05:35 AM Beautiful building! coldrsx May 2nd, 2005, 05:47 AM Are there any community webpages. ie downtown, oliver, railtown. I don't know where one starts and the other finishes. What do you call the area north of downtown near NAIT. Area along StoneyPlain RD? The area near the farmers market. Are these where all this develpoment is going? ...............HELP! "downtown" 97st to 111st from 97ave to 104ave "oliver" 112st to 124st from 99ave to 104ave "railtown" jasper to 104ave from 110st-111st www.edmonton.ca - go to visitors - maps ssiguy2 May 2nd, 2005, 06:27 AM ^^^^^^^^^^ Thanks anyway. I went to the site and downloaded the neccessary software but still didn't get the map. Got the pedway map but not much use, o well. I'll just assume downtown means everthing between the airport and river valley. coldrsx May 2nd, 2005, 07:17 AM ^incorrect....basically rivervalley to grant macewan is "downtown" scumtoes May 2nd, 2005, 07:55 AM i guess the closest reference point for this bulding would be the ledge. i think it's a little north-east of the ledge. Mock May 2nd, 2005, 10:06 AM Oh I see, the viewing is at the dots warehouse... -_- cmd uw May 3rd, 2005, 06:14 AM Oh I see, the viewing is at the dots warehouse... -_- You got it! What a step in the right direction, however, this proposal has a slim chance of getting approved by the SDAB (Subdivision and Development Appeal Board). They'll be going with a rezoning on this one methinks. ssiguy2 May 4th, 2005, 06:29 AM Why so? cmd uw May 4th, 2005, 08:52 AM Why so? The developers are requesting a variance to exceed the FAR (Floor Area Ratio) and density requirements under the existing zoning. In this case, they are practically proposing double the FAR and density, which constitutes a 'major' variance which is hard to justify. In the end, they'll probably land up rezoning the property, which takes some time and involves the public. Tri-City Guy May 13th, 2005, 02:44 AM Very nice! I like that high density area along Jasper Avenue to the west of the city. Be great as more big condo developments open in the core. I like Edmonton's downtown and the more lively it gets the better. Anyway know whats happening with the big Station Land towers???? Are they going up or what? coldrsx May 13th, 2005, 07:40 PM ^they are approved and awaiting a large tenant commitment. It will be a little longer for them to kick off i believe. Tri-City Guy May 13th, 2005, 09:45 PM Right on! Thanks for the update. Lets hope they get that commitment soon. Be nice to see Edmonton's skyline with a few more cranes. Its a great city with lots of potential to be even greater. coldrsx May 13th, 2005, 10:10 PM rumour has it that a few major hoteliers are interested....as well as a car dealership on the main floor podium. Tri-City Guy May 13th, 2005, 10:36 PM Hummmm A new hotel for Edmonton would be a good thing - especially top end which the city is short on...well lately anyway. Though Edmonton is well catered for with tourist class properties a new five star be good. Its been awhile. Time the Westin Edmonton got knocked off its ass. LOL (Ditto with the Sheraton but its already happened I think) Wonder how Edmonton's hotel vacancy is? If the city gets a good convention (and I believe the Shaw Centre is up there nationally) trade a major hotel could happen though Stationlands is a little out of the way. Still its not too far out that its impossible, just a bit unlikely as I'd imagine any five stars would want the River Valley thing going on. Depends how good the Stationlands development is as a whole. Maybe Edmonton north of the CBD can take off. (Stationlands is behind the CN building near City Hall, eh?) I haven't been in Edmonton since the City Hall Square got redone. Kev the burninator May 25th, 2005, 09:33 AM wow.. looks real nice.... CanadianCentaur May 25th, 2005, 09:54 PM I thought Founders Ridge just got axed or something? I don't know if I remember correctly, but I've heard that the developer doesn't seem to be complying with the zoning bylaws in terms of height and such. As for Stationlands, it's probably good as dead anyways. I doubt it'll ever see the light of day. Something else will go up there in the long run, but it won't be Stationlands as we know it. ssiguy2 May 26th, 2005, 07:45 AM Does have an aerial view of Edmonton from 2005? I can find some from 2002/2003 but by the sounds of it things have really changed. I would love to see streetscapes of Jasper to see how its coming along. I sure hope that rest/shops that are going up don't have the parking lots in front. I remeber that from Jasper and made the street seem very pedestrian unfriendly. Mock May 26th, 2005, 09:28 AM Parking lots on Jasper? Pedestrian unfriendly? Where? Maybe you're thinking of 104th Ave... coldrsx May 26th, 2005, 06:33 PM Founders ridge is going for DC2.... As for an aerial of edmonton...check www.jjbedmonton.com for a good shot which is from 2004 i believe. Mind you the changes in our downtown are more covert than an aerial would show. Most it is new businesses and new condos that blend in to the current landscape....but the vibe has changed to make our downtown vibrant and busy even at night. ssiguy2 May 28th, 2005, 05:50 AM Mock..................I seem to remeber a Earls or something similar on Jasper but had the parking lot in front of the restaurant instead of behind. Any parking on a street does not make it look attractive or friendly but rather suburban. Correct me if I'm wrong. cmd uw June 4th, 2005, 08:13 PM Mock..................I seem to remeber a Earls or something similar on Jasper but had the parking lot in front of the restaurant instead of behind. Any parking on a street does not make it look attractive or friendly but rather suburban. Correct me if I'm wrong. The parking lot you are referring to is to the east of the Earls, which serves as the parking lot for customers. There are a few parking lots fronting Jasper, but not many. ssiguy2 June 5th, 2005, 07:16 PM The city still shouldn't have allowed it. Is is basically all urban residential south of the StoneyPlain Road now and does it go all the way to the end {don't know whats it called but its the area where jasper ends and kind corners about a km west of downtown...the little fag-town area}? cmd uw June 6th, 2005, 09:06 PM The city still shouldn't have allowed it. FYI, the parking lot has been there for about 15 years, in fact, even before Earls existed. The area is the Oliver neighbourhood and the street where Jasper Avenue turns into is 124 Street. I also suggest you refrain from making offense comments, otherwise the mods may have to take appropriate action. ssiguy2 June 7th, 2005, 05:10 AM Sorry..........I can only assume you meant "little fag town". You are absolutly right, it was an inappropriate comment and I hope I haven't offended anyone and if I have please accept my apologies. Being gay myself you tend to use the word fag a lot to one another, no one takes offence but your point is well taken. cmd uw June 7th, 2005, 05:31 AM Sorry..........I can only assume you meant "little fag town". I know many people who use that word as 'slang', however, it's difficult for readers to determine its context through the computer. ;) |
