That should please Mr. Martin S. but the final item of the week will not
9) Mighty Blues finish above Liverpool and gain entry to the Europian Champions League

The new system replaces 20 black and white cameras and has already logged over 5,000 incidents which lead to 300 arrests.

You could save yourself all that worry by checking in each day at an internet cafe. Also saves you from withdraw`al symptoms. :)
I've been thinking about that now that internet cafe's have become cheaper to use. When they first started up, they used to charge £5 an hour. We'll be going to Jersey so I will expect it to be expensive but I'll try and get access maybe twice a week. :)
I'll be taking my bike so will be able to disappear for a few hours. Best to do it that way as our partners just don't understand that we need our daily fix.
woody May 22nd, 2005, 11:54 PM Relatively quite week after a news packed first two weeks:.............
1) John Prescott approves £19M of support to pay for the long awaited CRUISE LINER berth, the project involves a 250metre extension to the landing stage to allow some of the worlds big ships ( QE2-QM2 -CRUISE SHIPS ) to berth. (happy Paul :) )

North West Development Agency will be investing £2M over the next four years
8) Piling works begin at ALEXANDRA TOWER in Princes Dock
9) Brunswick Quay Tower back in the news with Henshaw having a go at Maro over the re-location of the existing business`s. The Daily Post editorial summed up the stupidity of Henshaw involvement when it said "he should be helping Maro not hindering".
10) Work begins on the £30M redevelopment of AINTREE RACECOURSE, over the next two years two new grandstands, parade ring, winners enclosures will be built. Building Design Partnership are the project architects.
11) Surprise surprise a letter in the Echo from " Margie" telling all scousers to stop moaning about all the roadworks and traffic jams. She says people should be looking foreward to the differences these changes will bring.
.[/I
12) Is this a lucky omen for LIVERPOOL FC, birdwatchers (twitchers) from the area and from all over the country are flocking :) to KNOWSLEY SAFARI PARK to catch a glimpse of a RED-NECKED GREBE, this very rare bird should heve returned to Russia after the winter, but has stayed in Knowsley ,maybe to watch the REDS win the Cup( OK Martin, just had to mention the enemy this week :) )[/I]
bustcapl May 23rd, 2005, 01:06 PM Well done woody, i find this much more manageable than having to read through loads of posts.
kung_fuzi May 23rd, 2005, 01:09 PM Bustcap, welcome back O spammer in chief.

Cheers once again Woody.
woody May 29th, 2005, 09:24 PM What a week, very quiet in MILAN :) but here in Liverpool the city is still recovering from the amazing events on Wednesday and Thursday. Congratulations to LFC on a stunning fight back to win the Champions Cup.
The supporters both in Istanbul and back in Liverpool certainly proved to be great ambassadors for the city. Also well done to the city council and Merseyside Police who organised the homecoming superbly.
Normal service will now resume:...........................
1) English Partnership pledge £19M towards the LIME STREET GATEWAY project. Prefered developer Illiad and construction company Carillion with Liverpool Vision and Merseytravel are all now working for a start onsite early in 2006.
2) Balfour Beatty win £20M contract to construct new CRUISE LINER facility. BB will "drop anchor" at the Pier Head in June with first ship due to berth next July 2006.
3) Brussels confirm an objective one grant of £46M (the largest ever)towards the Kings Dock development has been approved. This was the final hurdle to clear and Mike Storey has today confirmed that work will start in July
4) WINGS LIESURE PARK will "take off" in July, developers Peel Holdings plan for 2 hotels, the first being "Express by Holiday Inn (the other may be a premier travel inn?) together with multi-screen cinema, bars, restaurants and a fitness club. The location is adjacent to John Lennon Airport.
5) Further detailed designs have been released by Cesar Pelli Associates on what is planned for the new CHAVASSE PARK ,which is part of the Paradise Project. A grand staircase with "old dock" visitors centre underneath.
6) CoC news this week is made by the BEATLES STORY, they become the first tourist attraction to offer "audio tours" in Japanese, French and Spanish.
Further translation will be made next year. Who will be next?
7) Merseywaterfront Organisation have received a consultants report on improving public access and enhancments to the waterfront on both sides of the river. The "Pride in our Promenades" scheme subject to costings would see the Seacombe to New Brighton and the Otterspool promenades both revamped starting in the summer.
7) To end a good week for the city, peace may have broken out in the 8Henshaw / Story war. Henshaw is now willing to accept mediation with a view to him "retiring with honour". Leaving the elected leader to carry on leading. I sure hope that these two do not sour what has been a brilliant week for the city and its inhabitants.
Doug Roberts May 30th, 2005, 07:53 AM Thanks Woody, it really was a big for Liverpool.
woody June 5th, 2005, 11:23 PM Shortened version this week as I am camped out in Earls Court for a few weeks, after the excitment of the past weeks this week was almost a case of " after the lord mayors parade". May be not quantity but quality:........
1) Langtree/ McLean sign agreement with the city to return the orential gardens at the old GARDEN FESTIVAL site to there former glory in time for 2008.
2) Danish architects 3XN show off their proposals for the new MUSEUM of LIVERPOOL to be built at the Mann Island area of the Pier Head.
3) Irish developer , Chieften go public on their plans for a 32 storey tower in Skelhorne Street, complete with a " New York style" public viewing deck at roof level. This tower has been with the planners for some time so a decision is due soon( we hope)
4) Building work starts on £120M printing plant at SPEKE, could provide up to a thousand jobs with the press`s due to roll in 2008.
Thats it guys, but if I have missed any " headline " news I am sure you will tell me :)
Martin S June 5th, 2005, 11:34 PM Thanks again Woody. Always look forward to these updates.

Really good to hear about the Oriental gardens news.
It's so sad to see the decline in that area.
Scarecrow June 6th, 2005, 12:43 PM Wasn't there a plan to move one of the pagodas from the Gardens and plonk it in Nelson St a while back? :?
Dicky Sam's June 6th, 2005, 12:54 PM There was, but that was first mentioned several years ago but nothing has happened since. When the Council revamped Great George Square last year I had hoped that the oriental pagodas and pavillions would be relocated but that didnt happen. I think it would really add to the character of Chinatown if they were relocated..... seems a shame to keep them where they are where no-one can see them.
Scarecrow June 6th, 2005, 12:58 PM Seems like such a logical thing to do. Bit of a no-brainer really. Nelson Stret itself is alright, it just needs a bit of a tidy-up. I'd like to see more high grade chinese street furniture throughout the rest of the area, to give it an identity and act as a territorial boundary.

woody June 27th, 2005, 09:24 PM Better late than never, I am trying to catch up with all the news from the past 3 weeks, so here goes:...............
1) Peel Holdings buy the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company for £771M.
Apart from the actual port operations, Peel will be eying the vast empty
spaces available for regeneration in Central Docks, Bidston Docks and the
remaining plots in Princes Dock. City officials are said to be delighted with
the news as Peels reputation for regeneration is well known. The city
expect "more ambitions plans" for Princes Dock and Central Docks than
those planned by MDBC.
2) Public exhibition opens of the proposed MUSEUM of LIVERPOOL at the
World Museum Liverpool in William Brown Street. The X shaped building
will occupy 30% of the Mann Island site, National Museums Liverpool are
now striving to obtain the £65M required to build and fit out.
3) The Reddington group led by Wirral multi-millinaire Gerry White are to
"bankroll" a bid by QUIGGENS to move into the former George Henry Lee
building in Church St. Reddington will bid £15/£20M for the site.
4) Ropewalks gateway building the SCANDINAVIA HOTEL has been the
subject this week of a public enquiry into its future. Owner Jimmy Wong
is fighting a CPO which would enable Downing Developments to
fully develop the whole site.
5) After 18 months away being redesigned we welcome back the
MERSEY WAVE. Installed in November 2004 it was removed after
a few weeks due to excessive movement in windy conditions.
6) A stunning lighting eefect to the 1856 built EVERTON WATER
TOWER was switched on this week, now the 149 year old
sandstone tower will be bathed in a blue light forming a halo
around the roof.
7) Everton in the news again with plans announced for a £18M
GREEN VILLAGE development of a 150 flats and houses for locals
to buy. Timber frame with high insulation values and low water
use applianances are some of the features aimed at low running
costs.
8) The 25th MERSEY RIVER FESTIVAL attacted over 450,000 visitors to the
waterfront to view some 150 vessels from Tall ships to narrow boats.
The highlight of the week end was the "parade of sail" which saw
5 tall ships on the river including the sail training KHERSONES from
the Ukraine.
9) BALTIC TRIANGLE blue print was published this week giving some idea
of the extent that development company WINDSOR plan for this once
forgotten corner of the city. With several apartment blocks already under construction and the BALTIC TOWER in the planning stage , this area will provide the perfect link between Kings Dock and the Paradise project.
10) Congratulation once again to Liverpool FC who have won the fight to defend the Champions Cup, even though they finished below the "mighty"
BLUES :)
11) Last but not least, its congratulations to one of this forums "esteemed
scribes", MARTIN S . The Development Summary produced by Martin for SSC has made onto the front page of Tony Sebo`s DOWNTOWN SITE .
