Mine was George Galloway winning.

I don't agree with much of what he says but he is a real character and a great speaker and it really pisses Labour off that he has won.

A superb moment.

Watching Tony and Cherie surrounded by 15 (mainly lunatic) Candidates in Sedgefield.

I particuarly liked the bloke who was flexing his muscles in front of the Blairs :hilarious

You wouldn't think the senior citzens party and Pensioners' Party would compete for a seat :)

Only stayed up til 2 - Sunderland south must deliberately chuck half the votes away to get it so quick!

Putney was quite interesting

I have a lot of respect for Reg Keys an Independent who got 4,252 votes. His son died in Iraq.

I decided to not watch it, especially as i had work to do, then as I was in bed i realised it was quite entertaining and interesting, especially with the few tory gains i'd seen! Oh well, i'll be awake for 2010!

I think they just chuck them on a table, then all have a bit of a guess to see how many they think there are (lets face it there all going to be Labour Votes Anyway) and then there declared just in time for last order!!!

Very Scientific those Mackems.

did you see him being interviewed by a bb news presenter. She asked him what he is going to do for his electorate and he went into one about how the bbc are out to get him etc. She asked him three times before he muttered stuff about crossrail etc. He could have said that the first time she asked.

Yeah i was like that untill he did his speech, it was one of those that if it had only been 5 min it would be fantastic but he went on and on.....poor Blair he had to do his best acting to look truly sincere throughout (maybe he should be given an Oscar).

OMG just hearing Howard stand down!

yes, i thought reg keys speech was brilliant, and the faked sincerity of tony blair said everything that needed to be said. that one moment was pretty strong because it was so human with a politican forced to directly come to face with the results of his actions.

best moment was definitely oona king, the blair bitch, losing. her sanctimonious prissyness and self righteousness pissed out of the window, serves her right as she managed to lose that safe seat all by herself.

the sad thing is that labour are saying immigration helped the tories when it obviously didnt as immigration just took votes from the tories to the bnp. theyve just recieved a hammering and dont want to admit why they got hammered.

AndrewC
May 6th, 2005, 01:56 PM
Yes, i agree there james, and rally the tories won those extra seats by a) LIb Dems taking votes from labour and b) focusing on provocative issues that would get both the diehard tories and the marginals out i nforce -

I don't agree with the way howard wants to go about imigration but people see that he is trying to do something while the image of a failing border control system is projected all around them in the media.

Also a lot of people would have given their 'protest' vote to the tories anyway.

My favourite moment was lay in bed in a haze of glory in the wee hours listening to the radio and Michael Howard's constituency was being called up. When Howard made his speech, she said something along the lines of "having the first black male something something in the police" and the loudest thing audible was some fella straight from a carry on film shouting out "Whaey, 'ow abaht that?" and clapped loudly.

Magic.

of course its much easier to labour to blame those nasty tories and ignore the ten point swings against them because of one issue - iraq. that would mean labour had made a mistake. this thread is a classic example, go laugh at monkey's posts. if that really is the attitude in new labour they are doomed, thats indentical hubris to thatcher and her poll tax crap.

Listening to George Galloway, he doesn't represent me, but I am happy he got elected because he does represent a significant section of the population, and regardless of what you think of him, he is a far better man for his following his beliefs than some Blairite, he is also one of the best orators in the country.

I was also very pleased to see Bob Marshall-Andrews get re-elected, he is a man who has consistently stood up for civil-liberties and against Blair, his campaigns against Blairs decimation of jury trial and habeas corpus as well as his unwavering opposition to Enfeebling the population (ID Cards) means he will be another thorn in the side of the authoritarians.

Kilroy barely getting any votes was pretty funny. Also hearing that Howard is stepping down and Letwin doesn't want the job is pretty good too! I wish I didn't stay up until 5 though.

Paxman V Galloway after the result. Brilliant.

JP: We're joined now from his count in Bethnal Green and Bow by George Galloway. Mr Galloway, are you proud of having got rid of one of the very few black women in Parliament?
GG: What a preposterous question. I know it's very late in the night, but wouldn't you be better starting by congratulating me for one of the most sensational election results in modern history?
JP: Are you proud of having got rid of one of the very few black women in Parliament?
GG: I'm not - Jeremy - move on to your next question.
JP: You're not answering that one?
GG: No because I don't believe that people get elected because of the colour of their skin. I believe people get elected because of their record and because of their policies. So move on to your next question.
JP: Are you proud -
GG: Because I've got a lot of people who want to speak to me.
JP: - You -
GG: If you ask that question again, I'm going, I warn you now.
JP: Don't try and threaten me Mr Galloway, please.
GG: You're the one who's trying to badger me.
JP: I'm not trying to badger you, I'm merely trying to ask if you're proud at having driven out of Parliament one of the very few black women there, a woman you accuse of having on her conscience 100,000 people.
GG: Oh well there's no doubt about that one. There's absolutely no doubt that all those New Labour MPs who voted for Mr Blair and Mr Bush's war have on their hands the blood of 100,000 people in Iraq, many of them British soldiers, many of them American soldiers, most of them Iraqis and that's a more important issue than the colour of her skin.
JP: Absolutely, because you then went on to say "including a lot of women who had blacker faces than her"
GG: Absolutely right, absolutely right. So don't try and tell me I should feel guilty about one of the most sensational election results in modern electoral history.
JP: I put it to you Mr Galloway that Nick Raynsford had you to a T when he said you were a "demagogue".
GG: Sorry?
JP: Nick Raynsford. You know who I mean? Nick Raynsford. Labour MP?
GG: No, I don't know who you mean.
JP: Never heard of him.
GG: I've never heard of Nick Raynsford, no.
JP: What else haven't you heard of?
GG: Well, I've been in Parliament a long time...
JP: He was a Parliamentary colleague of yours until very recently.
GG: Well, most of them just blend one into the other, Jeremy, they're largely a spineless, a supine bunch.
JP: Have you ever heard of Tony Banks?
GG: Yes I have, yes.
JP: Right, Tony Banks was sitting here five minutes ago, and he said that you were behaving inexcusably, that you had deliberately chosen to go to that part of London and to exploit the latent racial tensions there.
GG: You are actually conducting one of the most - even by your standards - one of the most absurd interviews I have ever participated in. I have just won an election. Can you find it within yourself to recognise that fact? To recognise the fact that the people of Bethnal Green and Bow chose me this evening. Why are you insulting them?
JP: I'm not insulting them, I'm not insulting you
GG: You are insulting them, they chose me just a few minutes ago. Can't you find it within yourself even to congratulate me on this victory?
JP: Congratulations, Mr Galloway.
GG: Thank you very much indeed. [Waves, removes microphone]

i had to work at the bbc until 6 this morning. was very long. Lots of funny moments, most of which came from jeremy paxman, you gotta love his interviewing technique. loved peter snows animation of tony blair crossing the line at 10 downing street.

The rory bremner interview was brilliant, but maybe im only saying that caus it was filmed right in front of me, and i was serving him drinks all night. The bush impression especially.. "im very proud to be here in londonchester ohio" etc.

But my personal highlight was watching the news readers one by one falling asleep in the bar area.

Turning off the TV and getting some much needed sleep... I only managed to stay up till about 2 due to lack of sleep recently, but I liked the John Culshaw impressions and didn't find it as boring as I imagined.
