I can't wait that long... build the building faster...2009 is a long time.

You have no choice:)

Besides, 2009 is when the interior portion of the tower will be completed. The structure should be completed sometime in 2008 which is only 3 years from now, and the timetab;e for that is just about correct.

Does anyone know when we will see the tower actually start rising from the foundation? As someone who had the misfortune of being born after Sears, Aon, and Hancock were already completed, I am really looking forward to seeing this giant rise in the skyline. :)

I was also born after the Big 3 were constructed, and am looking forward to seeing this baby rise, but you just have to be patient. We should see the tower begin to rise out of the ground in the latter months of this year. It should be up to the plaza level of IBM/Wabash Avenue by years end or the start of 2006.

Nice sequence BVic; keeping the worker in the yellow slicker in each frame conveys a real sense of scale. I have to marvel at how all the engineering is worked out before the first shovel of dirt is turned. Thanks

Man Arrested After Climbing Crane At Trump Tower Site
Friend: Man Upset Over Documentary Deal

POSTED: 10:13 am CDT May 18, 2005
UPDATED: 12:27 pm CDT May 18, 2005

CHICAGO -- A man was arrested Wednesday after threatening to jump from his perch high on the boom of a crane at the construction site of the new Trump high rise at 401 N. Wabash Ave.

http://images.ibsys.com/2005/0518/4503268_320X240.jpg

Officials said Darryl Murphy started climbing down the crane at about 9:15 a.m. after throwing his jacket to the ground, but then stopped.

He later came down and was escorted away by police. The boom is about 100 feet long and was positioned straight up. There was no work going on at the site during the standoff.

During the standoff, police cordoned off the area at the site of the former Sun-Times building and fire officials set up a large inflated pad at the base of the boom, fearing Murphy would leap, and yellow police tape was placed around a portion of the site.

Murphy was disgruntled over a documentary idea he had sent to Oprah Winfrey that was used later by someone else, according to his friend Randell Davis, 34, at the scene.

Davis said Murphy had dropped off T-shirts and court papers regarding a possible lawsuit at Davis' home at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Davis could not provide information on the court documents, but friends of Murphy stood at the scene, wearing white shirts that read "PJ's For Life."

The documentary was based on Murphy's family members and the Chicago Housing Authority's Robert Taylor Homes where they lived.

"They took his creation, turned it around. They took his family, his creation, and they mocked it," Davis said.

It's not clear what charges Murphy will face.

So.. I was driving down the Kennedy, and for the longest time I was excited that Trump would add a 4th peak to the skyline in addition to the big three (you guys know the 3 peak view from the kennedy), but then I caught site of the IBM and made out Trump's location from about the Fullerton exit and realized that all Trump is gonna do is block the view of Aon from the Kennedy, so Trump and Aon will be competing for the middle peak spot. Anyone notice?

wickedestcity
June 9th, 2005, 03:42 AM
it realy all depends on the angle you get.

STR
June 9th, 2005, 05:18 AM
Aon and Trump will be very close for two 1,100 footers. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it'll be interesting. How many blocks apart will they be? 6? 8? Throw in Waterview (which does seem it will be built) only 100ft shorter than T&A ;) and I think things WILL get crowded, from a skyline perspective.

chiphile
June 9th, 2005, 06:53 AM
^Not to mention that Mandarin Hotel IF it gets built, damn, Aon is gonna have some big time mass around it.

I don't like the idea of filling the skyline more, extend it down south and west.. Maybe they should have built Mil. Park over the Kennedy.

accualy i think one of the big advantages is its current location with several huge Chicago attractions located within close proximity;Mag. Mile , the lake, soon to be Block 37 ect.

if it were located over the over the kennedy it might boost the realestate surrounding that location but is that realy going to beautify our current skyline? as is theres already a surgence in realestate growth in that area without the help of a millenium park . you have to look at what we already have and then build on it and try to bring the focus up in the areas weve already developed rather than working twice as hard to accomplish it somwere else by trying to relocate the focus to a new area.

but closer toward downtown?

How about a pic from the Kenndey inbound, from that electrical big weather sign near fullerton ave, is that going to block the AON?

geoff_diamond
June 9th, 2005, 06:56 PM
That first pic is northbound, whereas, I'm pretty sure chiphile was referring to the view southbound. The northbound view is crap along the Ryan because you're viewing the City from it's narrow side... it doesn't look nearly as impressive as it does from the northwest.

I got a newsletter today in the mail about Trump International Hotel & Tower. It seems as if everything is on schedule.

A new sales center will be opening up. A sales center will be opening up in the IBM Building at 330 North Wabash sumetime at the end of summer 2005. The sales center will overlook the construction site.

The sales center will be 5,000 square feet and it will include a model unit showcasing the elegant finishes.

This will be the third space the sales center has occupied! How do they expect potential buyers to be able to figure out where they're located this week!?

That's what the good old telephone is for. They've also begun to erect the steel for Wabash Avenue, which of course was torn out.

kayosthery
June 18th, 2005, 04:03 AM
Is the foundation work going inside the sheet piling under the raker beams for Wabash or is it the core of Trump?

Also, is it just me or is the footprint of Trump rather small for a 90some storey building?

geoff_diamond
June 19th, 2005, 02:58 AM
If you're talking about what I think you're talking about (the far-west corner of the site), then that would be the continued work on the Wabash viaduct.

As far as the footprint goes, yes, it is rather small - as far as I know, that is why they made the switch from steel-frame to reinforced concrete for the structure - the engineering team decided a steel structure wouldn't be strong enough because of the tower's super-thin profile.

If either of these bits of information are incorrect, someone please feel free to englighten me :)
