I haven't been here to long, but just what they said don't offend to many people. Then again a lot of people are taken out of context too, so don't be offended if they seem to be offending you. Hmmmm....now Im confused lol. Don't worry you'll be fine. :)

oh and Im a guy as well.

No,no,no, I not offended, I was just confirming my gender.

Welcome and cheers from across the Bay, M. Poirot!

Congrats on having mastered the art of how to post photos. :okay:

As far as what you should know to get around here, the others have pretty much said it. Read the rules, written and unwritten. The About the Forums (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25) section may answer some questions & give you some insight into how the place is run. Mere mortal forumers can't move threads ... it takes a mod to do that. You can edit, but not delete, your own posts.

I should perhaps add one more caveat: excessive parochialism should be avoided. :D

As you already know, I'm a gal. Thanks for joining my fan club! :)

You're welcome, Madame. :)
As for parochialism, there's no need to worry about that. I am aware that Japan has a "unique" representation here on the forums, and I am not so happy with that. My goal here is to raise the reputation of Japan in these forums and learn about foreign countries and their cities on top of that.

Yeah. 10 Minutes without the traffic. But since the majority of the residents live in the mountains that surround the downtown of the city (including me), it takes more than that to get to the city. 20 minutes for me, when the traffic at the Lombard exit on the Golden Gate isn't a bitch. But most of the time, it is a bitch. I guess you could also walk or bike to the city, but itll take you about an hour, im guessing.

You should post some pictures of your city at SF Bay Area Pictures Thread which is a few post bellow your thread. But I wouldn't recomend it if you don't have DSL or Cable, it's really hard to load especially the first page (might take a minute or two) because it has a lot of Panos.

M.Poirot
May 9th, 2005, 06:22 AM
Yeah, maybe I should. The problem is, Ill have to go out and take pics of my own, because the site that has all of the great pictures of the city was hijacked and they had to shut down

It's barely past midnight! For me, insomnia starts around 3am. :D On the other hand, if you've got to get up early to go to school ... :pet:

Good to have another West Coaster from NorCal here in the person of the famed detective! :)

Going back to parochialism for a moment:

My goal here is to raise the reputation of Japan in these forums and learn about foreign countries and their cities on top of that.

Many people here never set foot outside their home forums, which is a shame because they miss out on a lot. Language barriers may account for some of that, though.

As is discernible by the roster of her fans, Madame WH has ventured beyond her home forums and experienced and learned a whole lot here! :)

Welcome M.Poirot, nice to have you on SSC. Feel free to ask any questions or state any comments/concerns you're having. I know this place can be like a maze and somewhat intimidating if you're new, but you'll get the hang of it. I hope you enjoy your stay.

By the way M.Poirot, why do you go to the school in the city, are schools in Mill Valley very bad?

M.Poirot
May 11th, 2005, 04:48 AM
Nah, the schools in Mill Valley are very good. The public high school there (Tamalpais High) is considered to be on par with some of the private high schools in the city. Or that's what I heard. The reason why I go to school in San Fransisco is because my family used to live in San Francisco until a few years ago, when we had to move out.

Hey, another question! Do you delete old threads after a period of time?

I'm afraid insomniac doesn't have it quite right. While there is an archive for the NA forums, it's really quite skimpy in size.

So yes, M. Poirot: old threads do get deleted (I have wept bitter tears over he loss of several  ). It would be simply impossible to run Skyscrapercity if the threads of 2003, 2004 ... were all retained & still available.

I've noticed thooughtful people bringing back threads from a long time ago periodically because they care about them. :okay:

Also, you everyone can tell your age b/c you posted your birth date.

M.Poirot

That makes me wonder, how long have you been visting this site before you actually joined? It sounds like you've been lurking around this forum for some time now.:lurker:

M.Poirot
May 12th, 2005, 08:52 AM
Well, its not lurking per se, but when I read the forums, I read them all through, to the last page. The first time I even heard about this forum was actually only about 1 month ago.

And I just noticed, but this must be the most active thread in the West Coast Forum. Yay! :D

Whoops, I need to keep this thread alive :D ^ Well, I have enough time on my hands to post a lot, but there's no point if there's no people responding!

^well then somebody start a new thread, something interesting.

612bv3
May 15th, 2005, 06:37 AM
We should think of something that everyone in the West Coast Forum can be a part of. Maybe a WEST COAST URBAN DICUSSION THREAD. We could talk about NIMBYs, development that will affect a large part of the west coast, etc. Something thing that the Development Thread doesn't have, something the mods wont lock or delete, and something that doesn't belongs in the Skybar.

Any ideas?
