Any information about developments in Danang? I heard it's the third fastest growing city in vietnam

I think it promises many projects now and then, since Danang's mayor opens all the city's gates for foreign investments.

After Hanoi and Saigon , Da Nang might be the third strongest in foreign investments....but talking about the number of highrise after Hanoi and Saigon I think ya should talk about Vung Tau, a beach town, with many up comming highrise hotels.
Last time I was here the beach front was beautiful....the vast park run along the beach is better looking than Saigon waterfront park. And so many Russian in Vung Tau.......cute blond babies speak Vietnamese.....I was like WHAAAAHHHHH

Despite a slowing real estate market, Da Nang, a gateway city in the centre of Vietnam, is still pulling big property investments.

Da Nang beach.
Foreign investors are racing to Da Nang to build ocean resorts of international standards. According to the city’s Center for Implementing Investments, a large project is being negotiated on a 200-ha site in Da Phuoc, 70ha of which is on the mainland and the remainder on a peninsula reaching offshore.

First Key Agents Company from Singapore, who has worked with Da Nang’s People’s Committee, plans to lease 150ha to build a 27-hole golf course and a commercial area, set for completion in 2007.

A partner in the project, Binh Minh Construction and Investment Company, will also lease 43ha to build a zone of housing blocks.

On the remaining 10ha, the City will build an opera house and plaza.

In addition to First Key, Korean Daewon is negotiating a project running into the tens of millions US$ to build several high-rises on the Han River while Millennium Group and Silver Shore are carrying out US$150-mil projects to build high-quality tourist resorts on the Nam Non Nuoc Coast.

Modern initiatives make Danang first-rate city

Besides its beautiful beach, central Danang city can also boast streets with few beggars and a party leader who reads youths’ e-mails daily as part of its initiatives to develop into a world-class city.
Tourists have actually credited Danang as a “light, green, clean and nice” city.

But, the city has undergone major makeovers and operations that have required great efforts from authorities and contributions from the city dwellers for the last eight years.

And most of the city’s development projects have won vast public supports thanks to the authorities’ application of democratic principles in management.

“Five-nos” city

Danang has set itself an ambitious target of ridding the city of five chronic urban headaches: underfed households, illiterate people, beggars, robbers and murderers, and drug users.

The plan to reach the target began when mayor at the time Nguyen Ba Thanh held an unprecedented meeting with local criminals in late 2001.

The meeting helped criminals gain trust from the city leaders and realize they could mend their ways. After the meeting, the city also granted loans to help the criminals improve their lives.

The city has also poured in preferential loans to support poverty-stricken families and encouraged people to apply civilized practices in their daily life.

Professional behaviors

Another “five-nos” principle has also been applied among local officials and civil servants to prevent bribe-taking, corruption, imperiousness, irresponsibility, and waste of time and money.

The city has also carried out drastic reforms to its structures to shorten the time for residents going through administrative procedures.

Officials and civil servants are requested to be more professional or face being fired when dealing with civilians.

At times, high-ranking officials are even asked to offer apologies for their inferiors’ faults.

Digital initiatives

While e-mails are still something exotic to many middle-aged Vietnamese, the Party leader of Danang has asked young civil servants to send their initiatives straight to his e-mail inbox.

Many of their proposals have been put into practice and bear fruit for the last two years, particularly the city’s outstanding youth talent policy.

Starting in 2004, Danang decided to sponsor 63 excellent students of the city to study at home or abroad in exchange for their commitment to work in the city for at least seven years after graduation.

Generous awards have also been created for students who win national academic contests.

This is just one of many original “Danang-brand” development policies being studied and applied in other localities nationwide.

Da Nang programme aims to eradicate slums by 2007

Da Nang — With the housing project for the poor proving to be a success, Da Nang’s authorities are hoping to clear the city of slums by 2007.

The project, which was completed in three years, has provided more than 1,300 houses in its first phase, said Nguyen Dinh An, president of the city’s Fatherland Front Committee.

While the city granted VND8 million (about US$500) to each family to build a new house, the financial aid provided by charity organisations had played a crucial supporting role in the success of the housing project, he said.

Da Nang’s authorities have recently raised its poverty net, by which a household is considered poor if it has a monthly income of less than $9 in the mountainous areas, $12 in the suburbs and about $19 in the city.

In the first phase, the poverty limit was put at a uniform $9 monthly without any geographical difference.

President An said the Municipal People’s Committee planned to remove hundreds of slums in the city in the near future to turn Da Nang into a slum-less city in the next few years.

The city’s housing project for the poor is expected to be completed by 2007. — VNS

the city was the busiest port ....oh I don't know...19 somthing....and I feel pretty bad that they have lost their glory......but as of right now I know Haiphong has quite a number of building projects....it just that no one mention about the place..

so just wait a few years and you'll see Haiphong soaring........just like these 2 people in my work place ....they fart all the time......1 is very loud but has no smell......the other however .....is sillent but violent.........
