Introduction:
Bridges have long served as a means of connection between people. Whether they are long or short, wide or narrow, all bridges serve a purpose. It is time to show off the best bridges of Eastern Europe!

In this thread, we will vote for our favorite bridges.

Voting Guidelines:

Each member has to vote for exactly five (5) nominees on the list. Do not vote for any less, or any more. There are no exceptions! The votes of whoever chooses to disregard this rule will be omitted from the final count.
Do your best to vote as honestly and fairly as possible, putting all of your biases aside. This does not mean that, for example, you cannot vote for your city/country. It means that you should vote for the nominees that you think truly deserve to be in the top league.
Review all of the pictures posted for the nominations, even if you think you remember all of them from the nominations thread. This will refresh them in your mind, allowing you to make a wiser choice.

Ufff...some hard choices.
Number one, for me, is Széchenyi Lánchíd in Budapest, destroyed by Germans at the end of World War II, then rebuilt with cement donated from Serbia.

My list:

1# Széchenyi Lánchíd (Budapest, Hungary)
2# Stari Most (Mostar, Bosnia)
3# Karlov Most (Prague, Czech Republic)
4# Visegrad Bridge/Na Drini Cuprija (Visegrad, Bosnia)
5# Franjo Tudjman Bridge (Dubrovnik, Croatia)

shame on you:

Shame on you for not reading the rules.

Nominating Guidelines:

Note: a venue is a place where an event such as a sports competition or a concert is held, especially one where events are often held. We are not looking for opera theatres, or outdoor stadiums.
Make sure to include the official name of the nomination, as well as where it is located - city, and country.
All nominations require pictures to accompany them. Post pictures only, not links to websites with pictures. Post only the best pictures that represent your nomination accurately, and in the best way possible. Avoid posting large pictures or panoramas, instead include links to them.
Only two (2) nominees per country are allowed. Therefore, choose only the most distinctive, exceptional nominees. Basically, the best in the country! It's a good idea to discuss the nominations with your fellow countrymen, and posters, so that everyone comes to an agreement about what should be nominated. If more nominees are posted per country, only the first two will be considered.
Since there are only 15 spots on the poll, the first 15 valid nominations will be submitted. To avoid disappointment, post your nominations as early as possible. To make sure that your nominations are not late, you can even post the nomination without any pictures first, and edit your post later. Another suggestion is to edit your old posts, instead of creating new posts, so you can keep your original position. The guidelines are here to make sure that everyone enjoys this installation, while keeping it fair - please follow them.
Enjoy! :)

1) Welcome!
2) Once the poll is posted it's too late to nominate.
3) I didn't see it, but it was most probably late so it didn't get in.
4) It's not really a rule, more of a technical limitation. There is a max of 15 options in a poll on these here forums.

:)

I understand that you are new to SSC, but that's also why you shouldn't blame me for not including Bratislava's New Bridge, since you don't know how this series works.

The nomination address is in the Best of Eastern Europe Archive, which is a sticky in the Eastern European forum.

The only reason for the 'first 15' rule is because we can only have 15 entries in the poll. That's also why I recommend that if you really want to enter, you nominate as soon as possible.

Don't worry, you'll have many more chances to enter your nominees. :)

Tell one of the mods which one you want to get rid of, and they'll fix it, but ask them nicely, this isn't part of their job description. ;)

then, rule with 15 is ok, but in the future it will be beter to allow only one nomination per country, and at the end fill it to 15 with remain entries.

good luck...

We're actually discussing that idea in the Archive:
http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=152691&page=4

I know that many people will not be happy with this 'rule', so please, if anyone has a comment, click the link that I just posted, and discuss it with us.

Just a short techncial information about SNP bridge in Bratislava, Slovakia:
Inside the pylon, from which the suspension ropes hold the bridge, is the lift and stairs. The restaurant is situated on the top of the pylon, thus the vistitor can view the whole surrounding area.

The bridge has been included in several books about architecture.

Really strange this one was not included in the poll.

that would be quite unfair for bigger countries.

Really strange this one was not included in the poll.

It's not 'strange' if you read the rules, and understood why they must be in place. There is a new nominations thread, be sure to nominate early, or don't complain about it not getting in at the end.

This is the last call for anyone who needs to correct their vote (either had too many or too little) before I tally everything up. I saw yours L3D3NI, so I'll adjust that.

Urban Girl I tried to send you a pm, but you have too many so it wont send... anyways you had said that you put one too many votes by mistake, but didn't mention which vote you wanted to remove. Hopefully you see this, otherwise I'll have to remove all your votes. :(
