A sign with "sharp curve" should do the job imo. People need to think about how they drive, and not senseless follow the signs. In the Netherlands, every curve that's a bit tight has a recommended speed limit, but they don't have that much in Germany, and travellers sometimes come into trouble because they rely too much on the signforest that is present in the Netherlands.

It's really nuts how much signs there are in the Netherlands on roads. I sometimes have to make a list (with pics) of every road signs along a certain road, I did so last tuesday on a country road of 5km between Lochem and Vorden, and this piece of road alone had over 80 road signs. :nuts:

There goes my illusion of thinking that only Americans want to force changes in other countries.

Just let those people decide for themselves people! If they got used to it and don't see the need to change (although metric is thousands of times easier to learn and understand), then let them be.

It hardly affects us anyway, so why bother?

ChrisZwolle: we have the exact same situation in Belgium :( Haven't seen any recommended speed limits here though. They're all compulsory here as far as I'm aware.

^^ Really. UNECE commissioned a survey of accident blackspot signage a few years ago and that was the most common design motif--a simple black spot on a sign, with or without explanatory legend. It is used in Ireland too. (Many of the countries responding said their preference was to cure the accident problem through engineering countermeasures instead of simply putting up a sign saying that an accident blackspot existed, but a surprising number of countries do use blackspot signs.)

^You can turn left or right. But if you turn left you will only get 1 way traffic. If you turn right there will also be traffic driving the other way.

This was a bilingual English & Welsh sign in Swansea. The English part makes perfect sense.

If you understand Welsh, you'll be completely baffled by the translation.

For those non-speakers, the Welsh section translates as "I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated." This was the reply to an email asking for the English section to be translated into Welsh, but unfortunately was mistaken to be the proper translation, so was put into the sign! It was propmtly taken down.

Some other bilingual blunders:

• Cyclists between Cardiff and Penarth in 2006 were left confused by a bilingual road sign telling them they had problems with an "inflamed bladder".

• In the same year, a sign for pedestrians in Cardiff reading 'Look Right' in English read 'Look Left' in Welsh.

• In 2006, a shared-faith school in Wrexham removed a sign which translated the Welsh for staff as "wooden stave".

• Football fans at a FA Cup tie between Oldham and Chasetown - two English teams - in 2005 were left scratching their heads after a Welsh-language hoarding was put up along the pitch. It should have gone to a match in Merthyr Tydfil.

• People living near an Aberdeenshire building site in 2006 were mystified when a sign apologising for the inconvenience was written in Welsh as well as English.

there are few those signs in croatia and bosnia too... one of them is just few kms from border Bosanski brod on a curve leading to Derventa but i was unable to take a picture... maybe next time i'll be going down there...

For most people who don't know about the I-95 Gap/Cancellation of the Somerset Freeway in New Jersey and think the I-95 Runs on a direct line from maine to florida would be confused to see a sign that says "END I-95", "BEGIN I-295 South" in the Trenton Beltway. This confusion is mostly felt for people traveling Northbound on I-95 from Maryland and DC.

^^ They better use the I-295 (NJ TPK) instead, bypassing Philadelphia and Trenton ;)

i think it could be this road sirgn that warns about very dangerous stretch known as "black point". have you seen them at HR or BIH side? i have never seen it here

Right. Specifically, there's a minor cross-road just ahead of signalized intersection. Through traffic may be queued up for the signal, but if the right-turn lane is free, a right-turning driver might hit an opposing car turning left onto the minor street. It's absurd to think that anyone could figure this out quick enough to do any good. (Dothan, Alabama)

This sign is commonly used in Bulgaria on national roads and expressways ( only on motorways i haven't seen it). Although i find it very strange,because it doesn't exist in any roadsign standard. I call it either "the black hole sign" or "the big pussy sign" :).
Here in Bulgaria it is used to mark a dangerous stretch. In most of the cases there is a sign "Danger zone" below it , which makes it look even more weird :))) :))))
Furthermore, after certain kilometers of the "danger zone" there always is another sign saying " Thank you for driving carefully" :))))

In most states you would see a sign that says something like "congestion ahead", or "turning traffic ahead". Makes clearer sense to me.
