The Australian Team was lunched on the 30th last month.

Backed by the Royal Family the Series is a blue print with each team getting there car, and have little room for modification.

Anyhow it's really really important as far as international relation's and a quality open top racing series. :)

Yes I am looking forward to A1 GP, I wonder how it will succeed compared to F1, and hopefully Adelaide will host the race!

They give the teams the cars and they change down force, suspension set up, ect... Driver and team skill. Eastern creek will hold the australian race in september.

It's basically a contest of drivers whereas F1 is a contest of drivers and engineers. I'll stick with F1. Although, I'll watch this if televised.

I've heard talks about A1GP being held in Eastern Creek. So, it's not just CityStyle's wish, but rather it's a real possibility. If some of you guys bought Autosport couple of months back, they had a free A1GP dvd.

I wish it was held in WA. Mabey when our new track is built yes. As australia has a team we have a round.

I wonder if any television coverage in australia will cover races, perhaps if the sport builds a following after a few seasons.

^ Channel Ten? F1's not on during the time, so if they have it, they'll probably put it on the fucked timeslot of 11pm. That is, unless it's the Australian round, Sydney or Perth doesn't matter it's all good, and that time they just fill up the weekend with practice, qualifying, and the race.

Come to think of it Channel Ten's coverage isn't all shit. It does have certain upsides to it. But I'd love a replay on the next day, or perhaps highlights. Not just some 5 second clip in Sports Tonight

Eastern Creek handed GP

AUSTRALIA'S round of the inaugural A1 Grand Prix motor racing series has been pencilled in for Sydney's Eastern Creek on November 6.

The GP will be the fourth of the 12-race series on a provisional calendar released today.

A1 is a national concept featuring one team from each of 25 countries, with the first race due to get underway at England's Brands Hatch circuit on September 25.

Former world Formula One champion Alan Jones heads Australia's team in the championship which will be largely bankrolled by Dubai's Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum.

Jones said drivers for the Australian outfit had still not been selected but among those being considered are his son Christian and fellow young racers Will Power and Will Davison.

Cars have still not been allocated but Jones said they would begin to come off the production line shortly for shakedown tests.

The teams will all run in identical open wheel cars, built by Lola and powered by 520 bhp V8 engines.

More than $1.3 million in prize money will be up for grabs in each race with championship points in the series allocated to the leading 10 teams.

Drivers must be selected from their own country and the teams will rely more on driver skill than the barrage of technology which controls Formula One racing.

Rounds of the series have been confirmed in England, Germany, Portugal, Australia, Malaysia, Dubai, South Africa, Mexico and the US (Texas and California).

Yet to be confirmed are races in Indonesia or Singapore and in Beijing.

The championship will run in the F1 off-season, from September this year through to March 26, 2006.

Didnt look to be a very big crowd in attendence.

With a Japanese GP like that, I don't see how A1GP's first races will succeed. Good luck in Eastern Creek though. But from 2nd to somewhere in the midgrid is pathetic for Australia. Christian Jones is slow.... very..

I think Channel Ten shows it.. though a week after so perhaps this Sunday in RPM we'll see it... maybe. I did see the Brands Hatch round

It was live of Foxtel, I watched the second race, I was very impressed that there was only about 20 seconds at the end of the race between first and last, in F1 the lesser teams finnish laps behind. There was a lot more real racing and passing, most passes happen in F1 during pitstops.

Something I'd like to see changed is the continious switching of drivers. There should be only two drivers which they can switch every race, because a machine such as that A1GP car is very dangerous with inexperienced drivers who haven't touched powerful open-wheelers in their life, like that Lebanese driver. No matter how even your cars are, driver skill will widen that gap. Time to shut down on low-class drivers

I think this country vs country concept will work very well- its a huge factor which gets me interested to follow the NZ team (2nd after two rounds), i watched the first race on tv from brands hatch in england and there was so much more action than F1, there was heaps of crashes & passing and the crowd was loving it. plus all the cars have a boost button!!

I have heard that NZ will get a race when our new hampton downs track is completed.
