Saudi Dunes May 17th, 2005, 12:53 AM LOL, Bahraini Patriot...I went to AUB for my freshmen year. I lived in Kerr Hall (the before last floor, I think it was 6 not sure), the side facing Bliss Street...(man I hated that building). Some really nice memories (also some horrible one), teachers at AUB are crazy. Good luck with that buddy.
B-Patriot May 17th, 2005, 02:54 AM Thanx =) I'm almost finished with my first year here...I'll probably continue on, 2 more years to go...And yeah, i here you, the dorms here are bad, they really take getting used to... i'm staying at Penrose...i dont think i could live in Kerr where theres just one public bathroom for the entire floor =S Penrose isn't much better, but it is better i think, if you have good unit mates...
Bahraini Spirit May 17th, 2005, 01:25 PM Thanx =) I'm almost finished with my first year here...I'll probably continue on, 2 more years to go...And yeah, i here you, the dorms here are bad, they really take getting used to... i'm staying at Penrose...i dont think i could live in Kerr where theres just one public bathroom for the entire floor =S Penrose isn't much better, but it is better i think, if you have good unit mates...
Man 1 bathroom haha ur kiddin, I remember I got accepted there also when I was in school. I would've imagined AUB with proper facilities especially for living. I can't really remember the uni properly cause I just saw it from the outside and that was 1996 hehe. Am sure it changed a lot.
B-Patriot May 17th, 2005, 01:34 PM Well theres the rebuilt College Hall building, which was only opened and inaugerated in 1999 i think, soo thats a big much needed change...The university's really good, generally good facilities, but most are very old...The dorms however are probably the worst thing about the university i would think....They too are really old....

I'd take it you decided to stay then in Lebanon ay? Say you told me your dad was president of Ahlia uni, so I assume Abdullah Al Hawaj is your dad?
B-Patriot May 17th, 2005, 02:00 PM Did I! Yeah he is, you know of him?
Bahraini Spirit May 17th, 2005, 02:06 PM I don't know him personally, but I've heard of your dad. Am sure my father will probably know more about him :). Afterall, Bahrain is small hehe. Do you actually live in the Hawaj compound then in Barbar?
B-Patriot May 17th, 2005, 02:20 PM Yep...And yeah, Bahrain sure is small, everybody knows everybody else's business, lol!
Bahraini Spirit May 17th, 2005, 02:23 PM Haha you even get those freaks who identify ppl by their car plates, some ppl man, curiosity kills hehe. I'd assume your enjoyin your time in Lebanon then?
Elmahri May 17th, 2005, 03:14 PM i used to stay in Bless suites every time i go to beruit,it's directly facing AUB. Man the view is so nice i can see the whole university from inside.

B-Patriot May 17th, 2005, 04:39 PM Well, actually not so much...I'm starting to a bit more...I think Beirut and lebanon in general is probably a really nice place to visit, but not soo great to live in...!
Bahraini Spirit May 17th, 2005, 07:53 PM Well, actually not so much...I'm starting to a bit more...I think Beirut and lebanon in general is probably a really nice place to visit, but not soo great to live in...!
That's the case with many places even here in the west, its normal, bein a tourist is completely different than livin there and you don't notice the problems that exist until you're there for a while.
Saudi Dunes May 17th, 2005, 07:56 PM Hey Bahraini Patriot...I have a quick question for you. I use to know a bahraini kid (I think his name was Mohammad, not sure) he use to live on the first floor of Penrose, the side facing the soccer field (IC), he was friends with Billal (this kid use to live in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and then his family I think moved to Bahrain), do you know him?. Ahh man, I got to meet so many interesting people at AUB, one of my firends was from Riyadh (the kid lived in Achrafieh, in that building right next to Chilis), and then one time we were hangin out in Downtown Beirut, and he was introducing me to his friends, and one of them was a prince (I think his father is the owner of SaudiNet or some tech company or something of the sort) I almost had a heart attack, here I was hanging out with royalty. Ahh well, I'm going back to lebanon this summer, one of my really close friends is graduating (i think their graduation ceremony is in July, I'm gonna be in beirut on the 7th). man I can't wait, I love that city. One of my friends lives in Bliss Plaza (I think thats what its called), it that building right next to the mosque, and around the corner from that manoushi place), he lives on the 13th floor TALK ABOUT AMAZING VIEWS, and pricey purchase (half a million dollars). Another one of my friends lived in the building, the really nice one (its grey) right above the Lifestyles health club....ahhhh I can't wait to go back
Bahraini Spirit May 17th, 2005, 08:17 PM Saudi Dunes, we'd love if you share your profile with us :). The criteria is at the start of this thread.

Age: just turned 21
Occupation: unemployed (jk, still a student)
Place of Study:Bradley University, Civil Engineering
Location: Illinois, US
Nationality:American
Languages Spoken / Understood: English, Arabic, French (some)
Hobbies: SLEEP
I was born in Houston Texas, we lived in The Woodlands (about 45 minutes north of the city). My father moved to Saudi Arabia in the late 70's early 80's with Vivendi Universal and my mom soon followed (we have been living there ever since). I graduated from Dhahran Academy and went to AUB for my freshmen year, then switched to Bradley. Hopefully, my sister graduates this year and will join me at the same university. My mom plans on waiting till my brother graduates high school in another two years and will come back to the US (we are looking at purchasing a house in the same community we lived in, check it out...Carlton Woods at The Woodlands, Houston TX (http://www.carltonwoods.com/cw_developerHome.cfm?passid=12). My father plans on working in the kingdom for another four years or so and then wants to retire and also come back to the US. As for me, brace yourself, this is gonna be ambitious...I plan on graduating in spring 2006, finishing my internship, going on to a masters (maybe at UT Austin or Texas A&M), working in America for about 5-6 years and heading back to KSA, Bahrain or any Gulf state I can get a job in (I LOVE ALL OF THEM, although I have never been to Qatar or Kuwait). Maybe someday I will have enough money to buy a house on the palm or somewhere...(you should see the reactions on my friends faces when I show them pictures of the buildings in the Gulf....I have a feeling they think the region is a mix between Hong Kong and Palm Beach.

Carlton Woods is a very nice place, looks great, kinda reminds me of the projects here in the gulf but yet differently.
So your a Dhaharan Academy grad, say do you know a teacher there (not sure if he's still there, he was in 2002 when i finished school) called Darren Sturgeon? He used to be in my school and moved to DA and he came back for a basketball tournament. I met a few guys from there, don't remember any now hehe.
The grad unis you mentioned are pretty good, you plannin to do somethin related to IT or engineering? Just guessin based on your uni selection.
I take it you visit Bahrain quite often then? I remember you posted pics of it before in the pics section.
Dubai-King May 20th, 2005, 12:45 AM Well, actually not so much...I'm starting to a bit more...I think Beirut and lebanon in general is probably a really nice place to visit, but not soo great to live in...!
You should transfer to the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland Medical University of Bahrain. :D
B-Patriot May 20th, 2005, 01:40 AM I'm not studying medicine...Even if i was, i'd probably go to the real one in Ireland, not that the one in Bahrain is any less real =p Or maybe spend a few years in Bahrain, and a few years in Ireland, transfer back and forth, since its the same uni....thats a good idea....lol..
Bahraini Spirit May 20th, 2005, 12:35 PM Get experience abroad in Bahrain when your studyin in Ireland :D.
