سپاسگزارم
blackforest May 14th, 2005, 06:23 PM I mostly collect images of cultures and people, but I have some of architecture. Starting off with a few images of famous landmarks in Isfahan..
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/imamsquare.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/isfahankhomeinisquare.jpg
Imam Square
Imam Square is one of the largest in the world (500m x 160m), twice as large as Moscow's Red square. It was the symbolic centre of the Safavid Empire and was used for holding festivals, markets and games of polo. The square is surrounded on all four sides by long walls with the Imam Mosque in the south, the Mosque of Sheikh Lotfollah in the east, the Ali Qapu Palace in the west and the entrance of the great Bazaar in the north.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/imammosque.jpg
Imam Mosque
At the end of the Imam Square is one of the most stunning buildings in Iran, the Imam Mosque. Two turquoise minarets flank the huge gateway (27m high) Which are shown in the picture. The mosque was built over a period of 26 years and was eventually completed in 1638.The mosque is decorated with glazed tiles which take on a different hue according to the light conditions
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/is11.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/isfshaikhlotfallah.jpg
Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque
This small mosque was built during Shah Abbas' time and dedicated to his father in law, Sheikh Lotfollah. The pale tiles on the dome change colour from cream to pink, depending on the light conditions; and the mosque is unusual because it has no minaret or courtyard. The mosque was once called the Women's Mosque, because there is apparently a tunnel between this mosque and the Ali Qapu Palace, allowing women from the old dynasties to attend prayers without being seen in public.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/aliqapupalace.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/celing.jpg
Ali Qapu Palace
Ali Qapu is a magnificent palace built in the reign of Shah Abbas to be used as a reception center for guests, foreign envoys and courtiers. The palace which is six floors tall, the tallest in the time, has a tiled staircase and a remarkable plaster-work, and much of its interior is covered with frescos and miniature paintings.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/abbasihotel1.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/abbasihotel2.jpg
Hotel Abbasi Garden
The Abbasi Hotel was originally built as a caravanserai by the mother of Shah Sultan Hossein, the last the Safavid ruler. The old caravanserai was restored in the 1960's as a luxury hotel. To stay at the Abbasi Hotel is to walk through history. The picture shows its courtyard abd a veiw of Madrasah Chahar Bagh magnificent yellow and turquoise dome which is beside it. A masterpiece of Iranian art and architecture, the Abbasi Hotel, while enjoying all the facilities of a modern hotel, gives you the opportunity to see authentic Persian miniatures, paintings and tiles, gilt ornaments, mirror, inlaid and plaster works. The pic shows its expansive courtyard where guests can dine, enjoy tea and relax.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/chaharbagh.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/chaharbagh2.jpg
Madrasah Chahar Bagh
Madrasah Chahar Bagh ( Four Garden School) is a religios school which is built beside Caravanserai Abbasi. The construction of this Madrasah marked the end of a sustained and brilliant period in the history of architecture. The Madrasah was built on the initiative of Shah Sultan Hussein's mother between 1706 and 1714. The tiles are monochrome. So to create this colorful decoration, thousands of tiny tiles in different shapes and colors are put side by side.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/hashtbehesht.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/hashtbehesht2.jpg
Hasht Behesht Palace
The palace of Hasht Behesht was completed in 1669. 'Hasht Behesht' translates as 'Eight Paradises' and refers to a Timurid palace building type consisting of two stories of 4 octagonal corner rooms around a central domed space. The garden around Hasht Behesht Palace has been beautifully restored in recent years.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/is03.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/chehelsotun.jpg
Chehel Sotun Palace
This palace was built as a reception hall during Shah Abbas I and II. Shows the finest examples of Safavid period (16th century) architecture. Name indicates the multiplicity, there are 20 columns and see the other 20 in the reflecting pool. Nice view at night if it is open. The small museum inside displays ceramics, pottery, old coins, and several Korans. The paintings on the wall (inside the museum) indicate the scenes from war squares and entertainment parties of Safavid Kings.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/scheherazade1001/insidevank.jpg
Vank Cathedral
This is a world-famous architectural monument of the Safavid period in New Jolfa. The belfry faces the main entrance. There is a small museum, and Vank Cathedral's Press was founded in 1636 and was one of the first ones in the Middle East to print the Book of Psalms in 1638.

You should check out this (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=221213) thread. You'll be amazed ;)
Thunderflip June 26th, 2005, 03:08 AM Wow!!! I am very impressed! Iran's capital reminds me of a modern Turkish metropolis! I hope the city grows and becomes even more modern in the future! I love the skyline.
Just curious... are the skyscrapers residential highrises or office towers? Company headquarters? Are they built by the government, Iranian property companies or by the demand of foreign investors? Anyway, it is amazing to see Tehran with all those highrises, very modern.
StormShadow June 26th, 2005, 05:57 AM Nice thread, I always found the land of Iran to be very attractive. I like the ancient history too. ;)

Moody August 16th, 2005, 08:43 PM hey guys greetings from Mexico! your capital looks beautiful, i really liked it :)
Agree..
messiah August 21st, 2005, 07:34 PM I always knew that Tehran is more developed and nicer than many people expect but I didn't know myself that it was that developed!I'm surprised and hope the best for this country! Its people deserve a better government and more right like in the 60's!!I'm waiting for the comeback of this wonderful country,I hope it won't take that much time!!!
Rkhan August 28th, 2005, 12:18 AM Really nice. I'm kinda blown away. I wasnt expecting it to be anythign like this. I knew tehran isnt an emty city but i was expectign such a good skyline. Its actually pretty good. Considering the fact that Iran is a self dependant country, the work done by the iranian government for their people is very good. Thumbs up.
The city is nothing like the images that international tv channels show us. Seriously, tats quite pathetic on media's behalf. They always show the bad side.
Once again., peopel of iran. Good job. :)
Shohad August 28th, 2005, 10:25 AM ^^ there is plenty of bad side, but Tehran rocks! :)
Gilgamesh August 28th, 2005, 02:52 PM Actually i would say the work done by the Iranians for their capital city is good, all the towers are actually built by private investors (many outside Iran) the government doesnt even give a decent loan :(
prsn41ife September 25th, 2005, 09:12 PM I though religion was supposed to be anti communist? You know why you dont see many office buildings but a ton of apartment buildings? Thats cuz 80% of the economy is government controlled.
prsn41ife September 25th, 2005, 09:15 PM I cant wait till Iran opens up and lets in foreign investment...the skyline then will be 100 times better.
Samovar September 25th, 2005, 10:43 PM I cant wait till Iran opens up and lets in foreign investment...the skyline then will be 100 times better.
Well USD 200 billion of Iranian money has gone to Dubai this year alone. Even the Iranian government invests abroad mainly.
Iran can only dream about having things better in the near future. The only respectable architecture it possesses is that going back to the Qajar dynasty or older. All you see coming up today are white concrete slabs representing apartment blocks.
prsn41ife September 25th, 2005, 10:59 PM Isfahan: i think isfahan is one of the nicest cities in the world and with a little improvemnt and political climate change i would compare it to paris.
Samovar: i heard that so far, after the revolution, $700 billion of iranian investments have been moved to europe, US, and Dubai (not the governments money, im talking about iranian companies that moved out of iran after the mullahs came to power and iranian businessmen who left iran for better opportunities in the west)
IRNFUTBOL September 26th, 2005, 02:03 AM Wow, i have noticed that a lot of y guys are really biased toward the government of Iran. I don't support them, but when someone says that "all the towers in Iran are built by private investors" that pretty much shows their ignorance. Try to see the best of both sides guys. At least these mullahs have done more than the shah ever could.

prsn41ife September 26th, 2005, 02:19 AM freedom was right in want he said, the government doesnt do anything to allow businesses to flourish.
