View Full Version : Zhaoqing 肇庆, Guangdong Province
ThaQuest May 11th, 2005, 12:17 PM Zhaoqing is a scenic city about 2 hours west of Guangzhou, in Guangdong Province. It is famous for its Seven Crags park, which has just that number of craggy limestone mountains, which are similar to those of the famous Yangshuo and Guilin. These pictures are from a weekend trip in Fall 2004.

I've only seen people eat snakes when I went to Shenzhen.
I haven't seen anyone eat cats yet but I have seen one dog meat restaurant in Guangzhou, but nowhere in northern China.
k2 May 11th, 2005, 09:34 PM HAHA, some Western people tease Chinese people by saying they eat everything
ThaQuest May 13th, 2005, 10:37 AM regarding the eating of dogs, from my China Culture Shock book...
"Fear not. There is no way in the world anyone will be served dog instead of beef in a Chinese restaurant anywhere on earth. One reason this is unlikely is simple economics.
Chinese, especially in the south, do eat dogs in winter. But they are normally the plump Zhou puppies with black tongues, specially bred for the stew pot. Restaurants are not going to feed this delicacy to ignorant foreigners, if only because Zhou flesh costs about 15 times more than prime beef. it is eaten for medicinal purposes (it is supposed to make the blood thick and protect the elderly against winter chills) and is very difficult to find.
Nobody is going to waste this on a foreign devil who wouldn't appreciate such a fine dish."

I heard dogs have a lot of protein in them, so it does invigorate you in a way.
