Fuck yea...oops...can I swear here?...anyways, the stadium is almost always full...In every league game they get about 74.000 fans coming into the stadium, depending on how good the other team is. If a team like Bayern Muenchen is playing in Dortmund then its completely full...As for the atmosphere, it's just tremendous...

It´s a fantastic stadium,because it´s like an englisch stadium.
The atmosphere was better, when the South stand was smaller.
It´s my favourite in Germany before the Allianz-Arena.

I really love this stadium. It has a great atmosphere especially the great stand behind the goal where everything turns yellow at a match. I love it.
And Dortmund is listed very high at the moment compared to the last two years ,isn't it. A question to Rolfmaster, do you think Ebi Smolarek is good player in Borussia's Mannschaft.

--> back to the stadium:

still there are some rebuilding actions left to make the stadium fit the FIFA regulations according the WC 2006.
I heard that for example the first two rows on the main stands have to be taken away, which really sucks.
how about the south and north stand? are they going to place the seats like it has always been in international games?

------------

ROFLMASTER

as far as I know, they're going to put chairs on the south stand like allways. I don't know about the north stand. I don't really know much about what they have planned for 2006...

i heard that there were plans to tear down the area between the seats and the fence and build a wall instead; directly where the first sitting row is on the picture below, so there is a wall and some space between the visitors and the pitch.
does anyone know about that?

Looks like a stadium that can generate a fantastic atmosphere.

According to WS it will have a seated capacity of 60,285 for the world cup and IMO should remain seated thereafter. I hate modern stadia that still have standing room.

According to WS it will have a seated capacity of 60,285 for the world cup

But this all seater capacity will only be on this low level (as all other WC Final Stadiums) for the world cup finals due to safety reasons and additional space for press. In every other international games (CL, Uefa, germany's international matches) a all seater capacity amounting to 66.000 will be reached.

Borussia Dortmund wants to rename Westfalenstdium. Some interests are: Samsung, Go Yellow, LG Electronics, Easy-Yet, E.on, Sony and Phillips

So they will get money. When they rename the stadium Borussia Dortmund get 40 Million $ in the next 5 years!

New Yorker
October 9th, 2005, 03:19 AM
I can say you why dortmund gets 8 million $ per year,
because:

Borussia Dortmund: Average of 80.300 spectators per game (record in Europe!)
Schalke 04: Average of 61.500 spectators per game

The Westfalenstadion have the most capacity of the whole Bundeslige and the 3rd or 4th of Europe.

FCB_Flo
October 9th, 2005, 03:50 AM
OK, Dortmund has an huge average ! Right now they got 73.716 (against Schalke, Cologne, Bielefeld and Stuttgart)
But sponsors don't pay only for stadium-spectators (44.000 season-tickets), but mostly for tv-time.
And the chances that Dortmund will play in the UEFA-CL in the next 5 years are tiny.
Right now they can't even manage to get to the UEFA-Cup.

www.schwatzgelb.de mentions an amount between 4-5 Million €. That's more realistic than 6-7 Million €

FCB_Flo
October 9th, 2005, 06:26 PM
for cologne it was 78000 , and for shalke it was 81200
62.100 against Cologne, 73.100 against Stuttgart...

A i heard Allianz only pays this maximum ammount for Bayern playing CL and 1859 playing first league.

Borussia Dortmund v VfB Stuttgart 0:0 - 73100

Does anyone have some pictures of the südtribüne of Westfalenstadion? I heard that in the bundesliga games the südtribüne has an "all-standing" configuration, but in international games it has an "all-seater" config. It would be great if someone post pictures of the standing places, the installation of the seats and the seating installed.
Thanks!

Sorry for the bad spelling at the title

Yes, that's how it works. I believe they have developed this special (click?) system which allows them to transform the stand from an all seater to a terrace in a matter of hours. It is a very popular system in Germany. HSV, Schalke, Hannover among others use a similar system.

God I love German stadiums! They put the boring ones in the UK to shame.

Like all good buildings, German stadiums are built for the people that use them. In the UK, they show no regard for normal football supporters.

Benn
September 28th, 2007, 09:44 PM
That comes from the Bundasliga being more receptive to its fans, and the supporters fighting tooth & nail to keep their terraces and fairly reasonable ticket prices. Getting in to a top league game for like 10 euros? You sure can't do that in the Premiership, or NFL or many other leagues. They are functional affordable (built as well as tickets) atmospheric facilities. Outside of the Allianz arena and the Veltins arena most of those stadiums seem to be for the common fan. You're just not going to see an Emirates or a Jerryworld with a ton of suites and $300 club seats.
The only real downside is that alot of German facilities aren't very attractive in an exterior aesthetic sense (BorussiaStadion, HSV Arena, BayArena ect) in my opinion.

Thanks Quintana, those must be pictures of the World Cup 2006, the sponsors and the blue desks in the main stand confirm this.
That's the Sudtribune, in both.

However, I still have 2 questions:
1 - the terraced "steps" are very tiny, do they make any mods in the "steps"? (steps of stands, not of the stairs in stands. Sorry but I don't know the correct word)
2 - What mechanism is used to fasten the seats? It's like a screw? A hole in the floor? A click system??

The Westfalenstadium is Germany's largest stadium, but if it is all-seater, then Berlin's Olympic Stadium would be the largest in Germany and this stadium would be ranked third. Why must Gemans prefer to stand instead of be seated during football matches?

Luke80
September 8th, 2009, 01:51 AM
Because they prefer it! You could just have the seats installed permanently and let people stand in certain areas anyway. Couldn't be official really though because that practise is probably seen as dangerous.

One of the arguments for safe standing in the UK is that people will stand anyway, and it's far more dangerous to stand in an area designed for seating than a properly designed and well stewarded standing area. I've taken my fair share of tumbles over rows of seating when celebrating a goal at an away game.

Yeah, never happened to me, but I've seen others falling. That's just part of an away game atmosphere though - you accept that it could happen. Almost everyone stands at away games, and those who don't want to sit near the front so that there's no conflict.

Clubs should just draw up a statement saying if you stand duing games then you are breaking the law and if you get injured then that is not the club's responsibility. Then you wouldn't have stewards wasting their time and yours telling everyone to sit down.

I agree.

I mean, you can't avoid it and it makes a lot of good to the clubs and the stadium itself through advertising money.

But one would have to consider letting other people have the option of using the original name. It's stays anyway and is eternal.

^^Indeed pretty cool. Fantastic atmosphere. They almost celebrated Koln goals louder than Dortmund ones

Congrats to this fantastic (young) team!

Hey all, my first post and I'm wondering if anyone can help me finding out some information on the construction sequence of this stadium for an article that I'm writing for my blog.

I have a handful of images of the stadium without the corners but can't find anything of it's original state in 1974.

One of my favourite stadia this, a great example of how modern all-seater stadium can be complemented with terraced areas to provide a superb atmosphere.

Very nice stadium from the outside, the inside is impressive, but I don't like the corners.
But overall "what a stadium" !!!

Indeed, they screwed up the corners:

Was better with open corners and goal post structures:

If you once take a flight to Dortmund airport, you can see the stadium ^^, the aircrafts are passing at a quite low altitude on a landing approach from the west.
Take a seat on the left side:cheers:

I would go to an important game in Dortmund since there are flights from Bucharest.
Close to airport, cheap places to spend the night around? Easy access towards the city center?

The airport is on the very edge of the city, you have access to the city center by bus and train in 30 minutes. There is a cheap Etap Hotel close to the airport, but it is in the middle of nowhere. The only places you can go are a Mc Donald's or a petrol station

I guess in Dortmund are some affordable Hotels close to the city centre (e.g. Mercure Hotel Dortmund City)

Well, then, I plan to stay for a game a maximum of 2 days over there ( don't want to spend much ), so if not near the airport then a hotel near the stadium, with access to the airport is possible?
Wanted to do Milan since flights are very cheap ( 138 RON both tickets, that's like 30-35 euro's for mid-October ) but the low-cost airport is far from the city with no shuttle and a one hour ride + Serie A kinda sucks and I'll rather go to 3 Champions League games over here on National Arena or even to Europa League if there's a worthy team coming. Barcelona being a bit to expensive for flights, even London Luton is cheaper but getting a ticket on Emirates must be hell hard.

It would look much more impressive with a clear roof structure. Like on the Betzenberg, you dont see nearly a half of the crowd, because of sightlines or shadowcasting.

They need to sort out the seating colours, it needs a uniform scheme as the current look really makes the stadium look bad when empty. A yellow bowl would look good...
