SA BOY May 19th, 2005, 04:26 PM come on guys pics , info. Someone must know samoething about this ugly mofo tower
AltinD May 19th, 2005, 06:15 PM It is very dificult to snap a shot of the board, not if you're driving at least. There are no places to stop over there, due to working going on on a paralel road. By the other side of the highway, there's work going on too, so it will be dificult from there too.
All I can say is that "Canadian Consultants" is written on the board, the obly thing in English.
Dubai-Lover May 19th, 2005, 06:17 PM no chance to get to the site from inside media city?
AltinD May 19th, 2005, 06:29 PM ^ It is far, far away from Media City, it is where use to be that huge billboard for JBR. It is nearer to the 4th interchange then Media City.
Dubai-Lover May 19th, 2005, 06:51 PM but it is part of media city?
i'll tro to get to this area
still waiting for a couple of boards in dmc
AltinD May 20th, 2005, 12:23 PM There's no way you can go there. Is absolutely imposible to park your car for at least 1 km on both directions. The only possibility is while driving, but it will be dificult for the driver itself to take a clear picture of the board, ok for the passanger though.
Krazy May 23rd, 2005, 06:55 PM This is part of The Towers project.
dubaiflo May 24th, 2005, 08:58 AM it is. it is behind of the new jbr board, the smaller one. actually altin is completely right, no chance to stop there with a car.
Krazy May 25th, 2005, 05:40 PM Well guess what.. no chance to stop wit a car but definitely a chance to take a picture when you're stuck in a traffic jam :D... something good outta of the crappy Dubai traffic!
Here it is.. feast your eyes wit this beauty.. I finally managed to snap a high resolution pic today n get the render
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/vtalibaba/1ed6a023.jpg
Krazy May 25th, 2005, 05:41 PM Dennis please add the render to the first post and also on emporis. Thanks!
AltinD May 25th, 2005, 05:55 PM I PS Krazy's imagge and here it is:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v705/altind/1ed6a023.jpg
I'm counting at least 45 floors.
Krazy May 25th, 2005, 06:09 PM PS?
Whatever it is, looks better. Maybe it needs a bit rotation.
Dubai-Lover May 25th, 2005, 06:35 PM PS, the acronyme of PhotoShop ;)
well, for me this is 1 tower and not a twin tower with 45 & 35 floors
we have to gather more info on it
look at the balconies, this definitely is a residential tower
i count 46 floors and add it like this as a visual count
name for it: "unnamed residential tower"
AltinD May 25th, 2005, 06:48 PM Denis they are indeed two separate towers. They are united by skybridges or basement in around 50% of the height, only.
Dubai-Lover May 25th, 2005, 07:06 PM hmm, the two parts of the tower are linked to each other by more than 90% of the building's height
it is 1 structure
maybe michiel can help us with this one right here?
Dubai-Lover May 25th, 2005, 09:40 PM ok, i checked it
it definitely is a single tower
there also is a description on emporis:
Single vs. Multiple Building
In most cases there is no trouble deciding what constitutes a separate building. Only when they are linked in unusual ways is there a logical difficulty. The following rules have been adopted by the EDC to set a uniform standard:
Any two towers which are separated for at least 2/3 of each tower's height are considered separate buildings UNLESS the connection(s) form an unmistakable architectural unity, such as an arch-shaped building (examples: Genex Tower, Dusit Dubai, Umeda Sky Building). Skybridges are generally not sufficient to unify two separate towers.
Any structures which adjoin each other for more than 1/3 of any of their heights should be considered 1 building UNLESS:
they were built as separate structures and neither one can be considered an addition to the other; this means that the interiors are not integrated at any level, including the ground floor or basement; or
the structures are separated at ground level and connected for most of their heights but are normally considered separate buildings; or
an addition to a building forms a significant architectural disjunction.
An addition on top of an existing building is never counted as a separate building from the one underneath unless it overhangs the lower building from another base.
SA BOY May 26th, 2005, 09:09 AM this is the ugly mofo I was talking about. yuk its horid and a big step back in architecture for the city. Neverthe less its tall and can someone translate the project signboard info? Krazy could you post the rest of the sign board.
Residential sound about right , although id say its probably a mixed use tower with commercial space.
Ill change the titel to 46F for now.and lets still call it a twirly wirly tower
SA BOY May 26th, 2005, 09:12 AM this is deffinatly 200m plus, do we know any consultsnts except canadian cos I cant find any contact details for them
dubaiflo May 26th, 2005, 11:03 AM it looks pretty nice, now , better than on the signboard from a distance of 30m.
another great addition to the media city cluster.actually it isn't in DMC however.
AltinD May 26th, 2005, 05:27 PM The Board:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v705/altind/TheTowers.jpg
Krazy May 26th, 2005, 05:44 PM sorry, i wasnt able to get the entire board... just a small part of it.. it is entirely in arabic so we'll need someone who passes by to translate
Krazy May 26th, 2005, 05:46 PM oops didnt see altind's post before posting. from what i can read from that board.. which is very little... its 44 floors plus 4 floors underground maybe?
Dubai-Lover May 26th, 2005, 10:53 PM didn't see the board
maybe it was too dark
where in the towers project is this located, which end or in the middle?
Krazy May 27th, 2005, 12:27 AM its somewhere in the middle.. its clearly visible from the main road as u head from dubai to abu dhabi. therez also a building going up somewhere at the back.
Dubai-Lover May 27th, 2005, 07:41 PM found this one :)
there must be a way to get there
construction traffic has to access the site
will try to find a way
Krazy May 29th, 2005, 01:41 AM must be a way from the back, no way from SZR.
dubaiflo May 29th, 2005, 12:39 PM not even from the back, at least not with a car.
Trances June 14th, 2005, 03:38 PM wow odd looking one
really glad that media city getting denser used to hate that place
juiced June 18th, 2005, 02:08 PM What is the name of the twin towers under construction just before DMC/DIC as you're heading towards Abu Dhabi on SZR? It looks like a twin set of London's Erotic Gherkin http://www.reggie.net/album.php?albid=205
except it doesnt round off at the top and is more cylindrical?
edit: its near the new Wellington School being built next to that Police Academy around Interchange 4.
Dubai-Lover June 18th, 2005, 02:18 PM don't know what you mean, but check throught the dubai media cities tower forum and look if we have a thread for it yet!
juiced June 18th, 2005, 02:28 PM Found it
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=213331
dubaiflo June 19th, 2005, 01:35 PM it is the same one we are talking about in this thread ;)
Dubai-Lover June 19th, 2005, 11:26 PM it is the same one we are talking about in this thread ;)
threads have been merged, that's why it is confusing!
i have checked the architects' website
once again, no info :(
AltinD July 6th, 2005, 09:44 AM There were a couple of excavators digging on the site.
colemonkee July 7th, 2005, 11:24 PM The massing of the towers, along with the skybridges, is very nice. I'm not a fan of the facade treatment, though. If the twisting elements were a little more subtle, I think this would be a fantastic looking tower. But the large bands of glass with thick bands of concrete or metal don't do it for me. This would be much better, IMHO, with metallic mullions twisting up the cylinders, with different shades of blue glass.
Stephan23 February 2nd, 2006, 12:11 PM Have we construction pics of this one!!????
Dubai-Lover February 2nd, 2006, 03:45 PM impossible to get photos of this area
Stephan23 February 2nd, 2006, 04:57 PM Do you know in what floor we are??
AltinD February 2nd, 2006, 10:45 PM The hole is dug and the shoring work is complete. The piling has started; there was a piling rig and a mobile crane on site. The hole seamed to be some 5 - 6 meters deep only.
Dubai-Lover February 16th, 2006, 08:47 PM finally something is happening
today the fence was partially removed and there were lots of workers on site
huge hole btw
AltinD February 26th, 2006, 11:32 AM A very bad quality picture:
http://i1.tinypic.com/okbs4j.jpg
As i mentioned earlier, piling is underway and there are at least 2 other towers in the aerea that have shoring/piling work started by ZETAS and Midlle East Foundations.
Face81 February 26th, 2006, 08:42 PM this will be a great set of twins! :D
AltinD April 23rd, 2006, 08:21 PM http://i3.tinypic.com/w9hh1i.jpg
dubaiflo April 23rd, 2006, 08:41 PM not again al attar :bash:
zee April 24th, 2006, 11:04 PM not tooo keen on that design...looks like a pair of binocular
TowerPower September 8th, 2007, 09:59 PM bump
TowerPower September 9th, 2007, 08:09 PM Looks like this ones name is "Sky Spiral"
It's also quoted as being 49 floors.
another project i newver heared before...
"Sky Spiral" by al-Attar in al-Soufouh
The record breaking, largest, concrete pour in the UAE, 22000 m³, has been successfully completed by Unibeton Ready Mix, the leading concrete supplier for many of the regions landmark projects including Palm Island Jumeirah, the new Garhoud Bridge and RTA road interchange projects.
The milestone concrete pour - which is double the size of any previous pour in the region and the equivalent of filing 9 Olympic sized swimming pools - laid the basement of Al Attar Sky Spiral, a 49 level, residential tower in
Al Sofouh, Dubai, commissioned by Mr. Ahamed Abd Al Rahim Al Attar, founder of the Al Attar Group and managed under the chairmanship of Mr. Mana Al Attar.
Demanding the highest levels of technical and logistical expertise the mammoth 35 hour pour, finished Saturday, 7 September, 2007 and leveraged the combined efforts of Unibeton's nine, strategically located concrete batching plants - with a nominal capacity to generate up to 1000 m³ of concrete per hour - more than 150 transit mixers and 15 mobile and 6 standby pumps.
Unibeton, the largest concrete supplier in the country with annual supply exceeding 3.000.000 m³ is a member of the construction experts Al Fara'a Group. Group Managing Director, Mr.J.R Gangaramani asserts that the business was able to deliver this regional record breaker because of its investment in research and development.
'The Group, of which Unibeton is a flagship, has developed over nearly three decades because of our innovative approach to providing commercially viable, integrated construction solutions for all of customers. We are firmly committed to delivering excellence through partnership across the region and to contributing to the exponential economic growth of the UAE, said Mr Gangaramani.'
The project offered many technical challenges according to Unibeton General Manager Engr. Mohammed Shedadeh, including maintaining the continuous supply of temperature controlled concrete.
'With ambient temperatures currently around 40º c, we had to maintain the concrete at the specified 32º c with the use of over 1,500 tonnes of ice, coupled with this were the stringent quality checks on the 10,000 tonnes of cement and 40,000 tonnes of aggregate, carried in 2,500 truck loads, that we needed to complete the work.
'We had a dedicated team of best in the business scientists, technicians, engineers and other skilled employees all with a commitment to quality and to testing the untested so I was always confident that we would deliver this landmark pour on time and with the highest quality results,' he added.
Unibeton was strategically supported by key partners during the work which required an extensive back-up operation, to manage aspects of health and safety, supply chain and welfare for the over 1,000 project workforce.
The Project Contractors for the development are The Arab Contractors, one of the leading organisations in the Middle East and Africa with a heritage and range of experience that extends over 50 years and the consultants are Gulf Engineering & Consultancy.

AltinD December 11th, 2007, 06:46 PM Believe it or not, the two cores are a floor or two above ground already, and clearly visible from SZR (on the narrow gaps between the ad billboards that are in front of the site).
rgarrison December 21st, 2007, 10:21 PM ^^pics!
rgarrison December 21st, 2007, 10:22 PM BTW I'm having trouble understanding the location of the site. Maybe someone could post a map or something. I wanna see how this fits with the skyline.

Imre August 16th, 2008, 02:24 PM i think its "ON HOLD" , no progress there.
AltinD January 10th, 2009, 03:11 AM I've seen some workers on the site and the crane arm moved from the position it stayed for months (what actually atracted my attention).
Who would have ever thought, considering the developer and the current crisis.
Imre January 10th, 2009, 08:09 AM they have 3 plots at the JLT and still just holes, it seems they are not to hurry:)
just look the Sidra Towers , almost reached the final height!
AltinD January 10th, 2009, 09:39 PM ^^ I mean, how can work resume now on an Al Attar project that went On Hold even before the Financial Crisis hit.
AltinD January 14th, 2009, 12:12 AM Today there were again some workers on site. Let see what's going on.
