you should check out the NYC forum. I don't think he's crazy. I think he is quite passionate about it (even if he bugs the hell out of me)

I liked the originals, but these are terrible. Look like they were made out of lego.

Those towers were a desecration of the amazing New York skyline. Bring them back uglier and bigger than ever to stick it right Osama? Just proves how stupid and simple some Americans can be (especially thoses currently in power or stupid rich kids like Trump).

Do you really think Osama gives a shit he has got all the attention he wanted and couldn't are less what they do with the site now.

Now Trump is not on my top ten list (prolly not even on my top 1000 list. To call him stupid though may just be a stretch? He has done rather well for himself (even if, with all that money he continues on with that hair!)

I think this is a step in the right direction but perhaps not the final one.
I agree 100% with Trump. There is no use in building something that looks like a skeleton. The stupid argument about not being able to lease offices at the top is also flawed- 100m to a plane is nothing.

I think the designs while in essence are like the older ones, are inferior. I don't like the vertical additions to the facade, but i'm sure they are there to inspire strength. They make the building actually look older and break up their sheer sense of height. In truth i never liked the originals, always prefering the ESB and Chrylser. I did appreciate them more after they had gone tho and i see their merits.

I think this is great news tho, i couldn't believe that the final design was going through. I expected the public to be outraged at the very least. I think a twin building should be built, taller as well. Perhaps a medium of the old/new. With this design it is already aged (and like i said is not as good as the originals) and may give the impression that NY is stuck in the past.
I really can't believe that there can't be a better design. One that honours the twins and yet somehow adds to it.

Anyway i think Trump just wanted to voice the opinions of many ppl who are outraged. If i was a Newyorker i would rally too.

Those smaller buildings are TERRIBLE :puke:

Yes I like what he is doing but the design is not at all what I want to see put up there. I'd still like to see my design or norman fosters, or even something a little like the originals in size and bulk but with a modern smooth glass facade.

Hell, let's get Grocon to rebuild the Federal Coffee Palace and APA Tower, yeah why not.

not.

^ um thats a little different tays. fed coffee pl and Apa were historic 1880's highrise with tiny floor plates constructed of brick & stone and in dilapated state and they were willfully pulled down.
The WTC were simple 63mx63m floor plates with steel framed superstructure.ideal replacement actually! I reckon fellow new Yorkers would absolutley love seeing them rise again!

yeh they are not the best looking buildings but they are so New York, and fitted in perfectly with the skyline, i think. I agree with Trump aswell, its better than some empty shell, which when it comes down to it the Freedom Tower is, as only the lower floors are occupied. Either way i cant see anything topping out on this site until at least 2011.

Trump might win this fight, he has a habit of getting his own way.

I agree with Trump, rebuild them in the same classic style as they were. Not some trendy design now that is going to look crap in 20-30 years.

to be honest Malt it wouldnt surpise me if they did have so sort of anti aircraft weapon if they did rebuild the Twin Towers, not that we would ever be told about it.

I think the originals were better than this new design. The cross bracing and those horizontal bands destroy the design. The originals were so much more elegant even for such a huge and chunky couple of buildings. I'd still rather see them with some more vertical emphasis and more glass.

^ thats ridiculous.

The 2 Bands and Horozontal lines make such minimal difference it isnt funny.

People who call these ugly obviously didnt like the originals either.

The new one has lost all of its simple elegance and looks like a fortress.

I licked the original towers... i'd never lick these. :)

And yes it was lick not like... i hope i didn't get any germs from when i did it.. actually I think it was only a small peck i gave them but still!

As ugly as they were in some respects - it was their verticality that gave them their amazing power and awe-inspiring presence. Those vertical bands made a huge difference to the design. These new ones have it broken up with fussy horizontal banding and detailing - they look overly robust with redundant design - almost too strong and heavy for the skyline IMO.

I'd like to see these buildings with these current envelopes and shapes covered with the freedom towers facade. That would be a better compromise IMO

Yup the new design looks like it belongs in legoland.

I spose i didn't mind the original 2 towers, and the new ones are a bit iffy. But to begin with i reckon they poke out to much and ruin the skyline. Shure they are tall, and every skyscraper guru likes a tall structure, but the right structure in the right place at the right height is the way i would go. They should build 3 or 4 smaller towers ( as already proposed ) so that the skyline arches, not go up nicely and then bulge straight out.

But thats my opinion

Edit: Then again the yanks love the dominance of there structures :P

Mmm I guess I am in a minority, but personally I dont think anything should be built at the site. 2,500 people died there. Its a graveyard. Maybe my morals are dated, but I think lives are worth more than money. Yes it is in the heart of the world's biggest finance district, therefore worth alot of money, but I'd rather the place be made into a park or something.
You'd dont build on graves, why should this one be any different.

I agree the Twin Towers should be rebuilt using as much technology we can to make them stronger. Example.....The originals were strong enough to withstand their dead weight, wind loads and impact by a boeing 707 travelling slower and with less fuel. The new buildings could have a much stronger core with better placed stairwells. The floor trusses and connections to core and facade with a stronger system.Fire protection systems within the core to allow sprinklers above a fire floor to remain usable as with communication. As for the morals of building on the site of a grave....With greatest respect to those who lost loved ones, Europe would be a huge sacred site after the destruction of 2 world wars and they were rebuilt and life must go on .........I think those lost would agree. Lest we forget.

I support the Donald's plans for the site. In my opinion the best way to demonstrate to the terrorists that they will never win is to rebuild the twin towers stronger and taller than before.

I do not support this. The towers were dated before they were built. Donald Trump is an idiot. We should not waste this chance to build a landmark tower on a highly prominet peice of land in NYC. Even two GPT style towers would be better. Osama did NYC a public service by removing two horrible eyesores from the skyline. Most of the office agrees with me. I wont say more, because the language that would be used is highly inapropriate.

I'd support Trump on this. They are amongst the greatest scrapers ever built!!! Why should these icons of the NYC skyline forced to become apart of history? You can destroy buildings but you can rebuild them even better than before!!!!!
