View Full Version : My Hong Kong pics
Smileyface May 19th, 2005, 11:23 PM I had the pleasure of visiting Hong Kong early last month. I only stayed for 3 days while on my way to Melbourne, I've not long got back to the UK so I've only just started uploading my photo's....all 200 of them. I'll not post them all at once but a few every day. I tried not to take too many pics of the usual views, so the ones from the Peak and the usual skyline shots I won't post up cause you've all seen them a million times, here are the first few pics in no particular order.....

It's hard to put into words really, because I was only there for three days it all seems a bit of a blur. There's simply too much to see in HK in such a limited space of time, so next time I visit I'll probably look at staying for a few more days. I'm lucky enough to have a friend living in Mongkok so I had my own personal tour guide, and she spent two days showing me round. The last day I spent on my own and that was when the majority of my photo's were taken.
I was massively impressed by how easy (and cheap) public transport was to use, the shopping was incredible and of course the architecture was breathtaking. Standing next to 2IFC and the BOC building was an awesome experience and so of course was the view from the Peak. There's loads more I could say and believe me I have to my friends and family back here in the UK. I'll be posting my pictures up on the UK forum soon so I'll post a link to it on here so that you can guage their reaction as well.
HKT May 22nd, 2005, 11:48 PM Very nice photos. It's always interesting to see photos taken by tourists with their perspective. Most of us who live here will normally take it for granted and miss the interesting part of the city.
Smileyface May 23rd, 2005, 08:55 PM There are plenty more photo's to come don't worry

superchan7 May 23rd, 2005, 09:00 PM I've just had a revelation. One amazing thing about Hong Kong is that you really CANNOT take a bad picture in this city. Every skyline view and street scene is so full of...things. Traffic, life, architecture...or some interesting object or phenomenon.
Fabulous pictures. Can't wait for the next batch.
scorpion May 24th, 2005, 02:34 AM great shots Smileyface!! :D

great to hear that, what do you think about Victoria harbour, the skyline, the views??
scorpion May 25th, 2005, 12:18 AM more love from Smileyface!! :)
Skyscrapercitizen May 25th, 2005, 04:35 AM great. I miss this city sooooooo much!
Smileyface May 25th, 2005, 04:27 PM great to hear that, what do you think about Victoria harbour, the skyline, the views??
Well the Skyline is probably second to none in the world and I'd been looking forward to my trip to HK since October last year. The thought of seeing these buildings and the skyline in person was like a dream come true, all the forumers on the Birmingham UK section of this site are so jealous of mehttp://www.skyscrapercity.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I loved Victoria Harbour, the first time I used the Star Ferry to cross to central was an unforgetable experience. On my last night I watched the 8pm lazer and light show from the clock tower at Tsim Sha Tsui, trouble is my batteries on my camera ran out just as it started. Looking back now I'm glad they did coz I got to watch the spectacle with my own eyes instead of staring down a cameras viewfinder. Any images or video I shot would be exactly the same as thousand other images you can easily get off the net.
Like I've already mentioned I didn't get to see as much as I'd wished.....I never got to explore the New Territorries, Lantua Island or the other side of Hong Kong Island. Hopefully I'll be back next year and I'll put that right.
vincent May 26th, 2005, 06:39 AM nice to hear that you appreciate the HK trip...
did you hear the background music of the laser show when you stand near the clock tower??
superchan7 May 26th, 2005, 06:46 AM I didn't hear it. Where do they play it? I was on the TST promenade in front of the Cultural Centre. The crowds were really stifling though, so crowd control policemen directed us to exit via the Ave. of Stars.
InitialD18 May 26th, 2005, 08:33 AM i think they play the music at avenue of stars ... not sure myself ... check their website ...
Smileyface May 26th, 2005, 05:45 PM No I never heard it either, I was watching it from the promenade as well. This is the one of only two pics I managed to get before my camera batteries ran out, but as I've already mentioned there are 100's of similar images to this already on the net so it's no great loss

Smileyface May 26th, 2005, 05:48 PM Here are a few more nightshots, I don't know how well they've come out but they're not your usual angles

vvill May 26th, 2005, 06:18 PM nice pics again!
i really like your shot of the arch with victoria towers on the right and harbourside on the left! :)
and the building does look prettier in the pic than in real when you see the full-height of it i think! haha.
Smileyface May 27th, 2005, 12:57 PM A few street scenes

vincent May 28th, 2005, 05:41 AM there are definitely speakers on the Ave of Star for the laser show music
