The first high speed railway in China's west that runs in southwest China's Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality is to be tested by a high speed train.
A high speed train is to be used to test a new railway that runs in southwest China's Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality.
The Chongqing Morning Post reports that the Sui Yu railway, which is to be tested, is the first high speed railway in China's west. It's designed to handle speeds of more than 200 kilo metres per hour.
The project will benefit most those who travel from Chongqing city to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
The test begins on Tuesday and will lasts to early June.

Vertigo May 20th, 2005, 04:40 PM Hmm, the designers took a good look at the ICE 3....
Naga_Solidus May 20th, 2005, 05:36 PM Go China! This is great, and is a nice complement to Shanghai's AWESOME maglev. seriously, China's kicking but!
superchan7 May 20th, 2005, 08:10 PM That thing looks exactly like an ICE...I hope the technology was imported ;P

raymond_tung88 May 22nd, 2005, 02:48 AM I would think its imported. 200 km/ h? So between the cities of Chengdu and Chongqing and travelling at 200 km/h, how long would it take to go to and from those cities?
Its great China is going into high-speed trains. With a country so big, its good news. Speaking of which, does China already have high-speed trains running in other places? If so, where and what do those trains look like?
superchan7 May 22nd, 2005, 02:53 AM China has several high-speed railway lines. The most well-known one is the Guangshen Railway, which runs the Blue Arrow trains. They're domestically made based on an imported Swedish model but improved. They are designed to be capable of 300+ km/h, they've been tested at ~270 km/h and they run passenger service at around 200 km/h. The line ferries passengers between Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
I've taken the Guangshen line several times; it really cuts the travel time and is comfortable and affordable. However, I'm not too knowledgeable about other high-speed lines in China.

Got any pictures of the trains on the Guangshen Line?
mumbojumbo May 24th, 2005, 02:37 AM Nice.
The design is a bit bland though.

Vertigo May 24th, 2005, 10:40 PM The rate at which the railways in China are developing is really fast, just like the rest of the country. A few years ago the railways were very traditional, very close to other communist countries. But new trains and infrastructure developments are appearing every day now...
superchan7 May 24th, 2005, 11:37 PM Blue Arrow started service in 2000. I rode both the X2000 (introduced in late 1990s) and Blue Arrow.
I don't like the X2000's colours.
raymond_tung88 May 25th, 2005, 02:29 AM Are there any express trains running from Shanghai to other cities? If so, are there any pictures?

I agree. X2000 color is hideous.
