mmmmmmmmmmm.... farm on a plate! I'm getting hungry at the very thought!! :D

I had my pork bone soup fix for lunch today. I was weak and caved in. I love Italian
food, but when you eat it, you're hungry 72 hours later again.

I hate pasta and usually typical italian food makes me sick - not sure if its the cheese or the tomatoes

but once in a while I will make some for myself and suffer

Pasta is the best! BTW, you can make pasta or most Italian food without cheese... or tomatoes, for that matter.

OMG what a FANTASTIC meal that was. First little antipasti- fresh figs wrapped in pancetta, a couple of other little plates of assorted goodies like Melanzane alla Parmigiana
(baked eggplant with Parmigiano and tomato sauce), then Scaloppine Francese (veal scaloppine with mustard, mascarpone and cognac sauce). They made a huge plate of fresh gnocchi in Gorgonzola cream sauce for the middle of the table. Heart Attack on a Plate. Dessert was a duet of Tirimisu and Cheesecake! YUMMMMMMMMMM....

I tried something similar and it was revolting. I got it down, but I almost puked. I've even thought about drinking gravy, but I'll just stick it out with smashed up jello, beef broth, strained soup, cream of wheat, protein shakes, and fruit smoothies.

I got a five pound bag of tomatoes and then my masher broke. So they're dead now.

I have a drawer of dead potatoes. Can you use them for seeds? They aren't sprouting anything so I think they're dead-dead. I has one that started growing in the cupboard after it was forgotten (got put in the wrong cupboard and we thought there were none so we bought more and didn't remove them until we noticed a smell) and I think my uncle used them as seed potatoes? I don't think they took though.

yeah have tried a couple times - so good - the smaller size is more than enough for me - a regular is two patties which is just way too much food

so if you want to ease into it go for the smaller size first time

one order of fries can feed two people a large could serve a few people

i've been craving one for weeks really need to get to it soon - haha

Out of all of those choices Harvey's is at the bottom of my list. Though I blame that on one really bad experience I had with a burger from them 15 years ago! Can't eat one ever again.

Where is A&W people? That's my favorite big chain burger.

I'm curious if the same trend is happening in other Canadian cities, high end fast food restaurants popping up all over. They're showing up here like Sushi retsaurants did 10 years ago. Amazing burgers but a takeout combo will run you upwards of $15.

One opened near my studio and they make this amazing burger with bacon and cheese cooked in the patty.

where is that toronto?

we have a lot of chains in vancouver that are a little more pricey about the same $15 range that have popped up the last few years

Vera's Burger Shack, Moderne Burger, Fatburger, Wally's Burger, Triple O's, Urban Burger and now Five Guys

Ya must be the new cool thing. Pricey junk food, tastes great but not healthy by any means. I can't say I noticed in in NYC last time I was there but then again maybe they have them away from tourists areas. Or maybe this trend hasn't happened south of the border. It would be hard to start up an expenssive burger shop(pe) in a country suffering from a deep recession.

We also have Burger Shack though maybe it's not the same, Craft Burger, The Burger Shoppe among a few.

how about Poutineries? They've been popping up the last few years as well here in Toronto. I'm surprised it took this long for Poutine shops to make it out of La Belle Provence.

Poutine seems like the new food of choice at 3am when people get booted out of the bars.

I'm thinking that in a year or so the Poutine Gravy train will roll into Vancouver. It makes sense that it would move from east to west first. Glad to hear the pricey buger joints have opened up there. Any place that offers Blue Cheese on a burger is alright by me.

Craft Burger is OUTSTANDING. My fave hamburger joint of all time. Wildly delish onion rings.
Also, have you ever had the sliders at The Keg? Prime rib mini burgers? You will be licking the platter.

The potato planting man doesn't know you can slice the potato in half, and plant each half with the sprout pointing upward.
The potatoes do not need to be fresh (we used to plant the old ones left over in the cellar after winter) but they must be alive,
still.

Perhaps you do call that a nip, but you should know that Salisbury House invented the term! The first restaurant opened in Winnipeg in 1931, and took it's name from the "Salisbury Steak". The owner disliked the term "hamburger", so came up with nip instead! :)

Triple O is the name of the burger chain?

yup triple o's (https://www.tripleos.com/) by white spot - only in BC and Alberta, and they have triple o's in hong kong (http://tripleos.hk/), thailand and i think korea and china now - some hong kong business men liked the burgers so much on his trips to vancouver that he opened some in hong kong and they proved popular and other places in asia bought them to open as well

the burgers are famous for white spot - so someone spun them off into a burger only chain - triple o's is the name of their "secret" sauce

white spot has quite a number of drive-ins left they are pretty fun

I'm trying to diet too so I'm avoiding any fatty foods....especially burgers. Although I have a love affair with them. When I turned 40 a few years ago I suddenly awoke from my 'I'll have a flat stomach forever' coma so I cut out a lot of foods. It's nice here in the West End though as there is so many choices for food and healthy ones at that. Key thing I follow as much as possible is avoid any 'white' foods except cauliflower....actually scrap that one too...vile weed.

Really? In the past I used to get the impression you never eat junky foods.

"No burger is going to be diet food". I think that depends on what a person means by "diet"; I'm not doing any crash diet, just watching what I eat. A hamburger is simply ground meat between two pieces of bread. It can be as "fatty" or as lean as you want and they vary wildly in calorie count. Bread and meat can be part of a balanced diet. In the same way, a pizza is simply dough, tomato sauce, cheese and toppings baked in an oven. None of those items are junk in themselves, so the finished product can be part of a healthy diet, or it can wind up being a heart attack on a plate depending on how it is made.

Best burger I have regularly (like once a month) is from a little place on Granville Island called Market Grill. Bit pricey but good.

I only get pizza from a place down the street that uses only local ingredients, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the healthier things I eat.

I got some deer pepperettes a few days ago, I don't think they have fat in them at all. They're actually too dry, but still tasty.

I don't eat much junk food, but when I do I'm not looking for a low fat meal. Besides, calories aren't bad for you. We need them, especially in the winter. :)
