First of all, hello american forumers.
I need your help cause I have to do a project on: the growth of cities in
America and its immigrant population "75% of the population of America'sten largest cities were either foreign-born or only a generation removed from foreign born parents between 1880 and 1914"
The problem is that I don't know how to focus it. I'm lost:D I donīt even know which are the ten largest cities in the USA (L.A., NYC, ?, ?...) nor where can I find maps seeing the growth of them and how immigration affected it, which are the most common nationalities in each one, the different districts..
and to find it on the net results really really difficult, and more for me. Im Spanish.
well, if you could help, please post something
thank you anyway

Check out http://www.fairus.org for starters. That site has a lot of information on the immigration numbers. Hit Search and just type in any big US city. Ones I would definitely consider are New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Washington. Others you may want to consider are Boston, Houston, Seattle, Miami, Baltimore, Cleveland, Atlanta, St. Louis, etc.
I don't know how much help this will do you, but if you scroll down each one of these, you will get a complete breakdown of the different nationalities in some of the largest US cities. This might answer your question about the largest nationality for each one. Keep in mind that at the top of each list, it says "Other groups", which can really offset the numbers.
The rest of city-data.com lists the demographics of many, many US cities; big and small.
Sorry, that's about as much as I can offer.

i think the question addresses the population in the late 1800's and early 1900's. in which case, here are the top 20 cities by population:
new york city
jersey city, nj
new york city
i also have the top 20 cities for 1790, 1830, 1950, 1970, and 1990 if you need them.
