Me no like Gothicform :( mk61 June 1st, 2005, 10:33 AM I'd assumed the brum sub-culture would have grown used to indeterminate waiting by now. Obviously not  Goth's probably choking on his cornflakes at all of this grasping of straws :) mk61 June 1st, 2005, 11:50 AM you might all want to check out http://www.skyscrapernews.com/skynews.php?tyx=Skyscraper%20News&ktd=0&qws=nco Interesting, no? Thanks to Goth and Woody for that ;) woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 12:42 PM MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!! Blunther June 1st, 2005, 12:44 PM Cool :) woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 12:51 PM so, here you were thinking hatwe would have 2 highrise proposals by 31st, well infact now, we have the potential having 3 proposals...... a new HCT scale tower so upto 40fl, 120m a new resi tower at mailbox of 28fl, 85m a new resi tower in matinue galleries of upto 25fl, 75m woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 12:55 PM i did try to give you hints but it would appear that they were jst tooo suttle! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/woodhousen/actualfuture.jpg morestoreysplease June 1st, 2005, 01:08 PM Is that the Bristol Road Gateway tower on the left Woody? woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 01:37 PM well its meant to be! birminghamculture June 1st, 2005, 01:53 PM Oh, Cracking. a 120m tower on Broad Street would look stunning and really spread the skyline out so much. Another good size tower at Martineu aswell. Just got to wait on the Mailbox, fingers crossed. Is this just a rough height & scale Woody of the Richardsons development. could it be smaller, or taller? Thanks by the way  woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 02:05 PM yes it could be taller and it could be shorter..... it will all depend on the stregth of the market when it comes to applying for planning permission and may also depend on what miller unveils at AC birminghamculture June 1st, 2005, 03:27 PM How long till we see firm proposals? woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 03:35 PM well that is not yet know but feasability is being done on a tower so its quite advanced and not just a pointless vision!. A tower will be built on this site. however, just depends on how tall it will be! Smileyface June 1st, 2005, 05:13 PM Just got home from work and this is really good news.....Birminghamculture howdid you know there was going to be some interesting news for Bham around this date? Blunther June 1st, 2005, 05:23 PM It's a smashing place for tower, especially if we get anything half decent out of Arena Central. This makes me hope for the full 170-180m at AC even more though. I think this is our one big chance at a proper tower in the near future. I wont be happy even with 120m any more - we need a pinnacle that isn't the BT tower!! Smileyface June 1st, 2005, 05:31 PM Blunther speaks the truth  ROYAL BLUE June 1st, 2005, 06:25 PM Amen brother! Blunther June 1st, 2005, 06:38 PM Scumbagz. Smileyface June 1st, 2005, 06:44 PM Bumrash! Smileyface June 1st, 2005, 06:45 PM How long till we see the first renderings of the Richardson thing on Broad Street do we reckon? Blunther June 1st, 2005, 06:50 PM My optimistic side says April 2006, my brummie side says June 2009, construction to start in Zagtemberary 13.43245 of the new reckoning. Smileyface June 1st, 2005, 06:59 PM That soon!!!   ROYAL BLUE June 1st, 2005, 07:01 PM Actually i reackon Richardson will be in the final planning stages, so 3 months maybe? Dazza June 1st, 2005, 07:49 PM Whilst I find most of Richardsons work to be dull and uninspiring, they do have a good track record when it comes to completing projects. Lets hope whatever is proposed is good enough to get us excited without being so radical as to have no chance of being passed by the fuddy duddies on the planning committee. woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 07:54 PM Whilst I find most of Richardsons work to be dull and uninspiring, they do have a good track record when it comes to completing projects. Lets hope whatever is proposed is good enough to get us excited without being so radical as to have no chance of being passed by the fuddy duddies on the planning committee. well remember the 2000ft tower they wanted to build in dudley????? lets just hope this is just pie in the sky!?!?!?!? woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 07:57 PM heres an idea of the scale we're talking about!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/woodhousen/tramps.jpg Dazza June 1st, 2005, 08:14 PM excellent work there Woody. The only stumbling block might be the flats to the left on that picture (Trident Court?) as a tall tower might impede their light. MIDGEBLACKANDWHITE June 1st, 2005, 08:27 PM excellent work there Woody. The only stumbling block might be the flats to the left on that picture (Trident Court?) as a tall tower might impede their light. ..social housing..nobody cares what they think. :) brum2003 June 1st, 2005, 08:33 PM Whilst I find most of Richardsons work to be dull and uninspiring, they do have a good track record when it comes to completing projects. Lets hope whatever is proposed is good enough to get us excited without being so radical as to have no chance of being passed by the fuddy duddies on the planning committee. you can say that again, i recently read a danish architecture critic call One Colmore Square, the worst office block he has seen in ten years ???? but i think the council played a big part in its final design x anyway, hope this tower is huge, and they certainly build when they say they are going too, no bloody shareholders to worry about, and they are local so know the area instinctively... birminghamculture June 1st, 2005, 10:00 PM Thats amazing Woody, A tower that size in that position is really needed. If this is built soon, I have no doubt Arena Central will be 150m at least in height. Thats what I love about Birmingham. we already have the mid-rises in place, all we need are a few towering ones here and there to boost our skyline immensly. :applause: birminghamculture June 1st, 2005, 10:04 PM Anyone else looking at the huge potential for a Skyscraper Canyon in the above photo. Wow I think Ive just got all excited. Isnt Auchinleck House in that shot aswell, which according to some had plans to be knocked down in replace of 2, 20+ storey towers? birminghamculture June 1st, 2005, 10:12 PM Anybody think this could be a 50 storey tower? HCT has 158 Apartments located on floors 19-38 with Radisson Hotel taking up the other floors 1-18. So 400 Apartments were looking at a good 10 extra storeys if thats the case, not forgetting apartments are often bigger then hotel rooms. Just a though :) Can you tell how desperate I am for something big to start in Birmingham again ;) Orion is going up so much quicker now we wont have anything over 50m U/C soon. :( woodhousen June 1st, 2005, 10:24 PM masshouse!!!!!!!!! ROYAL BLUE June 1st, 2005, 10:39 PM Ahh bless, your excited arent ya. I cant blame u though it is fantastic news. (Fingures crossed that is) birminghamculture June 1st, 2005, 11:08 PM masshouse!!!!!!!!! First Phase is only 50m and there residential arent they? :dunno: mk61 June 2nd, 2005, 01:46 AM I believe the architects for this are level seven architects. they have a long association with the richardsons. Their last big project in birmingham was the RBSG offices at St. Phillips Place. http://www.levelseven-architects.com/index.html Confused Philosopher June 2nd, 2005, 03:11 AM Anybody think this could be a 50 storey tower? HCT has 158 Apartments located on floors 19-38 with Radisson Hotel taking up the other floors 1-18. So 400 Apartments were looking at a good 10 extra storeys if thats the case, not forgetting apartments are often bigger then hotel rooms. Just a though :) Can you tell how desperate I am for something big to start in Birmingham again ;) Orion is going up so much quicker now we wont have anything over 50m U/C soon. :( Is the site as small as HCTs? Because I think HCT was forced to have more floors because of the small site it was on. In any case, there is still a good chance it will be taller. ROYAL BLUE June 2nd, 2005, 03:26 AM Its definatly a bigger site the HCT, but on the other hand... Its in a 'PRIME' city centre location so a centre piece building can be expected, Also its on higher land then HCT, which would mean from a distance it will appear taller even if its the same height. brummad June 2nd, 2005, 03:28 AM much higher land...its amazing the difference in the skyline when you compare coming into brum on the 107 bus from sutton and when you leave the city from moor st station. one thing tho...the skyline view from the top of college rd is something special mk61 June 2nd, 2005, 08:34 AM Its definatly a bigger site the HCT, but on the other hand... Its in a 'PRIME' city centre location so a centre piece building can be expected, Also its on higher land then HCT, which would mean from a distance it will appear taller even if its the same height. It wont be the same height then - CAA height restrictions would hold it to exactly the same height if it was built to the limit Above Ordnance Datum. So essentially, it cant be taller - it can only ever be shorter, as its already on higher ground. Thats how I understand it, anyway. Dont ask me about Arena Central. Its already got permission for 175m, but if the CAA limits are retrospective, we're buggered. Otherwise, no. U475 Foxtrot June 2nd, 2005, 10:31 AM I believe the architects for this are level seven architects. they have a long association with the richardsons. Their last big project in birmingham was the RBSG offices at St. Phillips Place. http://www.levelseven-architects.com/index.html and these were the firm who designed the dreadful 1 colmore sq Blunther June 2nd, 2005, 11:09 AM It wont be the same height then - CAA height restrictions would hold it to exactly the same height if it was built to the limit Above Ordnance Datum. So essentially, it cant be taller - it can only ever be shorter, as its already on higher ground. Thats how I understand it, anyway. Dont ask me about Arena Central. Its already got permission for 175m, but if the CAA limits are retrospective, we're buggered. Otherwise, no. I'm hoping the CAA will have maybe rethought out their rules. They're very, very silly rules... birminghamculture June 2nd, 2005, 12:17 PM I cant see CAA restricting the height of this tower. how can then, when AC has been approved and HCT almost completed. I know the reasoning probably is that Brums cluster is so dense that an atrocity like September 11th wouldnt just harm the building attacked, but can you really see it happening? For christ sakes Canary Wharf, London's and one of Europes largest collection of finance companies and skyscrapers is located right next to a bloomin airport, yet height restrictions arent as tight there. I think this CAA ruling is complete bollocks and will have a very limited effect, if any what so ever. Dee June 2nd, 2005, 11:25 PM Great news about the new towers, Certainly helps keep up the momemtum which is what we need. If the people behind the scheme are looking for the tallest penthouses etc then surely its got to be taller than HCT and be in competition with the main AC tower and if there is 400 apartments then you looking fairly closer to 175m than 122m. Dee June 2nd, 2005, 11:37 PM The masshouse tower is not really a surprise, i can't see this being the only tower though as posted an article last week out the scheme is currently being made considerably larger from the current 1.6 million sq ft of net space. With that kind of volume there must be more buildings over 12 storeys. birminghamculture June 3rd, 2005, 12:18 AM Great news about the new towers, Certainly helps keep up the momemtum which is what we need. If the people behind the scheme are looking for the tallest penthouses etc then surely its got to be taller than HCT and be in competition with the main AC tower and if there is 400 apartments then you looking fairly closer to 175m than 122m. My thoughts exactly. Considering its location aswell you could expect the top floors or bottom floors to be letted out for bars & restaurants which again would bump the height. I personally think 150m. But I am being hopefull. Smileyface June 7th, 2005, 05:36 PM Bugger, I forgot to take pics of the former Tramps site.....oh well potto June 7th, 2005, 06:21 PM @ U475 Foxtrot ... You need to leave your abode to interact with the female species unfortunately. Yeah I'm gagging for it too! ROYAL BLUE May 19th, 2006, 06:54 AM Im shocked that this thread is 12months old. How much nearer is Broad st. tower? Biosonic May 19th, 2006, 11:35 AM Well she's in for planning and the council responded - they didn't chuck it out but expressed a desire resolve several issues. Rumour has it that it will start within 12 months. There is obviously something about May that spells good proposals for Brum. Wonder whether it is anything to do with the new financial year? woodhousen May 19th, 2006, 11:58 AM well so long as they stick to their words..... |
