I like what i'm hearing and reading though :) better than anything i suppose at least it raises the excitment levels a bit and not have the dismal level of inactivity we had last year of the proposals front.

so, here you were thinking hatwe would have 2 highrise proposals by 31st, well infact now, we have the potential having 3 proposals......

a new HCT scale tower so upto 40fl, 120m
a new resi tower at mailbox of 28fl, 85m
a new resi tower in matinue galleries of upto 25fl, 75m

i did try to give you hints but it would appear that they were jst tooo suttle!

yes it could be taller and it could be shorter..... it will all depend on the stregth of the market when it comes to applying for planning permission and may also depend on what miller unveils at AC

well that is not yet know but feasability is being done on a tower so its quite advanced and not just a pointless vision!. A tower will be built on this site. however, just depends on how tall it will be!

Just got home from work and this is really good news.....Birminghamculture howdid you know there was going to be some interesting news for Bham around this date?

It's a smashing place for tower, especially if we get anything half decent out of Arena Central. This makes me hope for the full 170-180m at AC even more though. I think this is our one big chance at a proper tower in the near future. I wont be happy even with 120m any more - we need a pinnacle that isn't the BT tower!!

Whilst I find most of Richardsons work to be dull and uninspiring, they do have a good track record when it comes to completing projects. Lets hope whatever is proposed is good enough to get us excited without being so radical as to have no chance of being passed by the fuddy duddies on the planning committee.

you can say that again, i recently read a danish architecture critic call One Colmore Square, the worst office block he has seen in ten years ???? but i think the council played a big part in its final design x

anyway, hope this tower is huge, and they certainly build when they say they are going too, no bloody shareholders to worry about, and they are local so know the area instinctively...

Thats amazing Woody, A tower that size in that position is really needed. If this is built soon, I have no doubt Arena Central will be 150m at least in height.

Thats what I love about Birmingham. we already have the mid-rises in place, all we need are a few towering ones here and there to boost our skyline immensly.

HCT has 158 Apartments located on floors 19-38 with Radisson Hotel taking up the other floors 1-18.

So 400 Apartments were looking at a good 10 extra storeys if thats the case, not forgetting apartments are often bigger then hotel rooms.

I believe the architects for this are level seven architects. they have a long association with the richardsons. Their last big project in birmingham was the RBSG offices at St. Phillips Place.

Because I think HCT was forced to have more floors because of the small site it was on.

In any case, there is still a good chance it will be taller.

much higher land...its amazing the difference in the skyline when you compare coming into brum on the 107 bus from sutton and when you leave the city from moor st station.

I'm hoping the CAA will have maybe rethought out their rules. They're very, very silly rules...

I cant see CAA restricting the height of this tower. how can then, when AC has been approved and HCT almost completed. I know the reasoning probably is that Brums cluster is so dense that an atrocity like September 11th wouldnt just harm the building attacked, but can you really see it happening?

For christ sakes Canary Wharf, London's and one of Europes largest collection of finance companies and skyscrapers is located right next to a bloomin airport, yet height restrictions arent as tight there.

I think this CAA ruling is complete bollocks and will have a very limited effect, if any what so ever.

If the people behind the scheme are looking for the tallest penthouses etc then surely its got to be taller than HCT and be in competition with the main AC tower and if there is 400 apartments then you looking fairly closer to 175m than 122m.

The masshouse tower is not really a surprise, i can't see this being the only tower though as posted an article last week out the scheme is currently being made considerably larger from the current 1.6 million sq ft of net space. With that kind of volume there must be more buildings over 12 storeys.

My thoughts exactly. Considering its location aswell you could expect the top floors or bottom floors to be letted out for bars & restaurants which again would bump the height.

I personally think 150m. But I am being hopefull.

Well she's in for planning and the council responded - they didn't chuck it out but expressed a desire resolve several issues.

Rumour has it that it will start within 12 months.

There is obviously something about May that spells good proposals for Brum. Wonder whether it is anything to do with the new financial year?
