If the average eye was a lens, what would it be under normal conditions?

Oh wait, only one eye...then 50mm. But voted 18mm, which probably compares to looking with both eyes.

Both eyes: definitely a WA, or a UWA, so 18mm.

Single eye: still pretty wide, I'm thinking 35 mm.

Why not try different! 80 mm. I remembered a teacher that told us the angle of vision of the eye was very small (to see things sharp) In fact, it seems to be wider because or eyes are moving all the time :)

meaning it's interchangeable too? ;)

If not, I want all possible zoom range, f2.8 at least. :colgate:

Or go to your optomotrist to check your CCD. While your there, also ask if you can replace your lens for a sharper crisper one.

When we were studying the eye in one of my uni courses, we were told that each eye has about 150 million receptors, meaning a total of 300 mega-pixels! (Without getting fussy about them not all being used at the same time...)

We have a variable aperture, since our iris controls how much light comes into our eyes.

a trick question, heh? :)

the correct answer is...none of them!
You should also mention what size film format you are talking about. For medium format users the answer is very different.
First, you cannot really compare camera lenses with human eyes.
but if you want to talk about NORMAL lenses.
They teach you that 50mm lenses resembles human vision the most in basic photo classes, but most photo teachers just tell you this not to confuse beginners. For 35mm, the correct normal lens is ABOUT 43mm, not 50mm. For instance, many Leica RF users prefer 35mm lenses as their prime standard lens, not 50.

The answer that I used for the poll is 50mm. It was in the book, "The Photography Bible." It wasn't supposed to be a trick question. Just some basic trivia for fun!
