It is indeed a nice airport however its standards are dropping alarmingly. When it first opened, the only complaints were the long walks that passengers had to take in order to get to the main concourse and subsequently to the gate. Thats a rather silly complaint in my opinion because you have to walk a long way in all major international airports.

However now ... for some reason there are problems with the A/C the atmosphere inside the concourse can get a bit muggy and hot ... which isnt very pleasant. Toilets and their conditions is a major problem. There is an utter lack of seating for economy class passengers ... you have people lying or sitting on the floor right across the concourse and this is not the best of sites to see really. THere are also major staff problems ... the Duty Free staff are on the whole rude and the Security, passport control etc personnell are intolerably rude.

Anyway ill end my rant there !

I've actually been told by a Dubai forumer that this concourse is built such that it can be literally "moved" to the new Jebel Ali Int'l Airport someday, which is the airport that'll eventually replace the current Dubai Int'l. COOL!!!

^ Actually I believe this one, because they're investing U.S. $4 Billion in this current airport while its replacement is breaking ground. It would make sense to build a satellite concourse that can be moved to the new site once needed. :)

wow, that a380 terminal is maybe 60 metres tall, as you see the tail of the a380 compared with the roof of the terminal...

Thats how much its going to cost to keep the terminal in one piece, the $4b is not for the terminal alone but for the expansion of the whole airport that includes the building of a road tunnel under the entire airport.
Much of the new concourse is underground, unlike the present where baggage/ immigration is handled in a seperate landside building linked by a tunnel to the existing satellite, it will all be done underground eliminating the need for a ling tunnel walk.
I would gladly eat my shorts if they are indeed able to shift the whole concourse by over 30 Km

The tube section looks just like bangkok's. The interior reminds me of a Las Vegas hotel or something. One question though. Why an underground terminal? I just personally think that its unnessary. Dubai has plenty of land.

Well this airport is in the middle of the city so they've got limited space to build on.

Here are a few shots i took in July last year. Existing concours (Sheikh Zayed Terminal) and the Tower.
In the background are a few of the hundred construction cranes at the site.

View from inside the concourse, across the tarmac is the old terminal and tower which is now the arrival/departure terminal connected to the concourse by an underground tunnel.

View from the cafeteria located in the Departure area of the old terminal.

the existing concourse is okay.. but the variety of restaurants is quite limited.. and i don't like the tacky lights hung from the roof...

i doubt it.. a new airport will be built, which is a part of Dubai Logistics City, there will be subway connecting the two airports. Jebel Ali will mainly be used for freighters/cargo planes..

DIA looks nice but after a while i was bored with everything that it offers. y did i say that? was there once, on my way back to KUL, i was stranded there for more that 10hrs, no accomodation given and no logical reason given by Emirates. even the person behind the info counter was lost for words and eventually turned hostile when passengers demand to know y.. we were called for breakfast at 4am, went to the said restaurant, and the person said 'oh sir, our restaurant only opens from 0600 onwards.' and the way they treated the asian expats, esp from the sub continents.. pathetic.
to me, first impression lasts forever, now i am avoiding DIA . i am using Doha Intl as my transit point for my next trip to KUL, heard people at Doha are friendlier..
