Every house is receiving a brochure outlining the development
A £700m plan to transform a Lancashire resort is unveiled on Thursday.

Kensington Developments will be handing its plans to Fylde Council for housing, business and a leisure complex on a 75 acre site at Lytham Quays.

The developers, who will be revealing their plans to the public, say thousands of jobs will be created.

The scheme involves the regeneration of a site between Preston Road at the Ribble estuary on the edge of the resort building homes for 5,000 people.

'Largest development'

Kensington Developments also want to build a cinema and an ice rink as well as a business and industrial park.

There would also be a new health centre, primary school, shops, and wildlife observatory.

The company estimates that 900 construction jobs would be created, and 2 ,600 permanent jobs once it is completed.

Every household in the area is receiving a 54 page brochure outlining the development, which is the largest ever to go before Fylde Council.

This development looks very impressive from the renders and models I saw on North West Tonight. The style of the architecture is very European and very innovative.
Lytham is part of the Blackpool metro area and is incredibly beautiful. Its the only place in modern Lancashire which has sold an apartment for £1m :)

Blackpool has a metro area?
Yep, encompassing all of west Fylde, Lytham St Anns, Fleetwood and Wyre.

Looks like a good project. Would like to see more renders.

I have been searching the net trying to find the treasure trove of renders that were shown on Granada but no luck, and the developers site is garbage. Nothing on www.fylde.gov.uk either :(
Hopefully something will show up eventually. If not I'll go and photograph the display in Lytham. There is a highrise element in this scheme too ;)

The fantasy that has been presented via the developer's brochure put through all the letterboxes in Lytham is already falling apart.

The health centre that formed such a major "benefit" of the scheme (to compensate for adding 7,000 new residents to a town of 7,000 existing residents) has been knocked back by the council.

The promised ice rink will not be built because there is a covenant that means it can't be allowed.

The much admired model only shows a very small part of what they are planning (although not many people realise that).

They have had to remove one of the horrid plastic galleons, The "Marie Rose" (sic) "due to public opinion".

Don't get taken in by the glossy architects models.

Look instead at the context in which it was being proposed - a quiet seaside town.

I have never seen a less sympathetic development proposed.

Progress yes, mindless profiteering by developers.? NO!

Look at John Gummer's comments quoted at http://www.johngummer.org.uk/files/upld-article40pdf?.pdf for another opinion!
