OH thanks......hopefully I could meet someone.....at least for a cuppa coffee of something ;)
szehoong June 7th, 2005, 09:40 PM One question to Shanghainese (or any Chinese for that matter).......since I am free on most evenings during my multi-city trip, what are the recommended places to visit at night on my own? :?
I would like to know esp for Shanghai as I would be having 2 free evenings there I think ;)
What about Nanjing? Thanks! :)
I'll try to post my tour itenary by tomorrow or by Thursday ;)
RafflesCity June 8th, 2005, 12:22 PM @sze..ahh you are going to Shanghai!
for night life I went to Xin Tian Di (pretty nice place). I also did go to Mao Ming Rd.
Its also good to go to the water's edge on the side of Oriental Pearl and look across the river to the Bund. All the old buildings are lit up very impressively. Its like River Thames but nicer ;)
szehoong June 9th, 2005, 01:15 AM Thanks for the tips RC! :okay:
YelloPerilo June 9th, 2005, 03:57 AM If possible, go to Tongli instead of Wuzhen!
At night: Bar Rouge at Bund 18 (Waitan), People Seven (Julu Lu), Tongren Lu has many pubs and bars.
muchbetter June 9th, 2005, 06:21 AM I wish you have a wonderful tour in Shanghai. From all information I know, tourists like shopping in Nanjing Road where bookstores, museums, restaurants catering to foreigners may stay open later. At night, bars (which often have cafes) don't close until the wee hours of next morning. At night, Riverside where especially you can feel gentle bleeze surround you in this summer, will be very comforable for you to stay with friends while enjoy watching night skyline. Up to Nanjing, there are Confucian Pavilian and many historical sites and scenic spots such as Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum that you can visit. Of course, most of sites strongly are related with history about civil war and the second world war. It will be helpful for you to be led by someone who explains details. As for others, like Xuanwu lake, Yangtze Rive bridge, you can take a quick look if time permits.
Weather seemed always hazy or drizzly when I was there, so umbrella might be necessary. Too much I've written. Finally, I suggest you take a good care of your stomach.Don't spoil it. :)

I can't unfortunately as it is part of the tour itenary :(
Hmmm......and I am not a fan of pubs and bars.......I would love to have a guide on where to walk around and the best spots to take pictures :D

Wah thanks! What time does most of the museums closed?
What about Jin Mao Obs Deck? What time it closes?
I am not too sure where the tour would bring me but I am only free at night and I need to know the operation hours. I seriously can't find anything on the net :(
Oh and what time is the last train of Shanghai's metro departs?
Thanks a lot guys!!! ;)

Last train of shanghai is around 1040 i think.....but anyway the taxi are aplenty and cheap, so dun worry (starts at 10rmb)
not sure what time Jin Mao close.....maybe you can call them to find out...
(phone number: 021-50475101)
RafflesCity June 9th, 2005, 11:22 AM The Jin Mao observation deck closes at 9pm, so its better to go there way earlier IMO.
But I highly recommend you go to the rooftop bar of the Peace Hotel at night. It is something like the Singapore Raffles Hotel but seems popular with tourists and isnt so expensive..the building itself is also interesting, but the atmosphere there at night is incredible.
Its the building to the left of this pic: entrance by the side

Oh, no, your cameras must be crestfallen coz you abused them. :)
Anyway, I am glad you arrived in Nanjing. With lovely canon IXUS 700, your left-hand handy, you still take responsibility to take miscellaneous photoes. I can not help but expect them soon. :)

No matter what. Enjoy your holidays! :)

Adding to the list of broken items are my pair of 2 months old sunglasses  ......which broke mysteriously at Nanjing :(

Actually my DSLR broke during my Penang trip not my Singapore trip but it is like a day before my trip to Singapore 3 months back. It is due to a faulty mirror but I got it fixed and it doesn't really cost much......luckily. But I missed out on many photography opportunity in Singapore :(
I had my camera body serviced at the same time :)
This time I realy dunno what happened. I sent all my lenses for servicing before the trip and my camera body just 3 months back. So I think this is really bad luck leh. Furthermore I even bought a new camera bag. Well........I think I am going to get another DSLR maybe in a year's time and my 300D would then be my backup camera :D Having a DSLR as a backup is definitely much much better :D

That's quite a lot compared to my sister's 140+ pictures for her 8 days trip to Quilin last month. :D
BTW.....how many percent do those 'birds pics' consist of?

szehoong June 21st, 2005, 12:08 PM Thanks guys!
Really enjoyed my trip to Shanghai. Coming back to Malaysia after a week's absence had resulted in me working doubly hard so I haven't got time to check the forums on what I've been missing and to post pictures. I should be free beginning of next week ;)
babystan03 June 28th, 2005, 10:34 AM No pictures yet??......:?
