Pireaus is the largest port of South-Eastern Europe and one of the largest in the world. It caters for Greeces Huge Fleet of over 1000 ships...

A 2500 years old port, amazing! :)
The picture only shows a small part of the actual port, but it's the most ancient part of it.

and the most beautiful part IMO. I think this is the oldest surviving port or atleast definetly the biggest ancient port...

The picture that you post it is mikrolimano.....
and has nothing to do with the actual port of Piraeus
ok as you did start it i will try to present to the rest of the forumers some facts pictures of the real port and a little history
ok well lets start with some facts
At first the port is separated between passenger commercial port and construction
so lets start with the passenger port....
the map of the passenger port http://www.olp.gr/images_new/map/500x404.jpg
Piraeus is the largest passenger port in Europe and one of the largest passenger ports in the world. It services 19.000.000 passengers annually (including the Salamina - Perama commuting service which handles 8.7 million passengers annually), ranking Piraeus as the third busiest passenger port worldwide.
and some pictures from the Passenger port
http://www.olp.gr/images_new/epivatiko/akto/18x268.jpg
It is the main passenger hub between mainland Greece and the Aegean islands and Crete as well as the main maritime gateway to the European Union at its southeastern end.

Six passenger terminals are provided (two of which handle exclusively international traffic), several parking areas and a whole range of services to ships on a 24h basis all year round.

The PPA' s plans for the Central Port involve its further operational and aesthetic upgrading. In order to achieve the aforementioned improvements new passenger terminals are already under construction and several of the existing ones are currently being renovated. Akti Vasiliadi for instance, has been developed into an exemplary passenger port area with a modern passenger terminal station. At the same time, passengers will have access to the port by means of the Metro extension and the Athens Light Railway.
Now lets see a little the commercial one
GENERAL CARGO
CONVENTIONAL CARGO TERMINAL
The transport of conventional cargo (RO/RO, bulk cargo and other general cargo) is carried out through the "Irakleous Port" at Keratsini. This port zone is equipped with covered and open storage areas and the appropriate mechanical equipment (jib and mobile cranes, forklifts and several types of tractors).
the Map of the Commercial Map
http://www.olp.gr/images_new/map/Commercial-map500x300.jpg
actualy the total tons of cargo for the Year 2004 was 1500 teu which positions the port to the top 50 regards cargo in the world

there are a lot of improvements going but I am going to do that in a later stage
SHIP REPAIRS ZONE
Many ship-repair enterprises that employ significant number of personnel and yield considerable benefits to the national and regional economy operate at Perama
