versalvin June 7th, 2005, 08:46 AM These stadiums are built for the last SEAgames right?
I have read somewhere that, after the games however these stadiums are not used as much...
I note that all of these big stadiums are around Hanoi, are there any major ones around Saigon let say?
coolink June 7th, 2005, 06:25 PM yeah ......for the SEA Games
actually now most of it are used by highschool or university students, and exhibitions, villages wrestling etc........they're in good used......especially the two swimming pools (in 1 building) in Hanoi is very popular now during this dry season.
ABout Saigon.
that Phu Tho building built in Phu Tho race course in Saigon is fairly big but still only holds 5000 people. beside that is another building 2/3 of Phu tho, hold about 3000 people ......but I don't have the picture.
Phu Tho race course now looks pretty nice the second time I'm back, with fences, lights, wide side walks and trees....and the streets surrounded are expanded........feels like it's in the center of the city........whereas the first time I saw it....slums surrounded the racecourse, smelly garbages and the narrow streets, when you pass by this place you couldn't breathe. traffic were stucked, and it's very dark.
but I say this race course still big enough to build a 100.000 seats stadium.
outside TanSonNhat airport across the street from my house is another open medium size stadium.....looks kind of nice.
Another one is in Cholon area.....and another looks quite nice and clean....is across the street from the 15 storey TV tower....I think in one of juroslaw photo has this stadium, but I wouldn't call this one stadium.
tq June 7th, 2005, 10:22 PM By the way bang....its the "Aquatic Sport Complex" in Hanoi also for puplic?
I love it! Great design!

In general the Sport Zone in My Dinh has just the best sport complexes of Vietnam.

versalvin June 7th, 2005, 10:26 PM Yeah great design...i like the color scheme a lot too
coolink June 8th, 2005, 06:00 PM yeah they're for the public, but don't know if they are expensive or not.
But now that I look at it again............ that building has not only 2 but 3 swimming pools, 2 indoor and 1 outdoor
I don't like the stadium in Hanoi, they turned down the beautiful sketches by the German, American and even the famous Vietnamese architect who restored the Hanoi opera house.......and chose the one designed by the CHinese.....because it was cheaper.......
got a few more photos but couldn't log on imageshack today
tq June 8th, 2005, 06:11 PM yeah they're for the public, but don't know if they are expensive or not.

...
expensive or not....whatever....have still to visit that when I visit HN :colgate:
There were other designs of the stadium? I didn“t no that. Do you have any pics of them?
Yeah...the famous architect who restored the Hanoi Opera House was the viet-kieu Ho Thieu Tri...he had also created the Sport Zone there.
versalvin June 8th, 2005, 07:28 PM You are refering to the My Dinh Stadium only?....or most of the Hanoi's stadium designs/projects were given to the Chinese teams instead of others?
kojima eater June 9th, 2005, 04:26 AM The My Dinh stadium was very ugly ,really .And the reason they chose it not because it's cheaper ,but because the man in charge of the projects was bribed by the chinese contractors ,the whole Vietnam knew it. One of the most important of them ,Luong Quoc Dung ,was jailed but for another crime .At least it some justice.
coolink June 9th, 2005, 06:01 PM Vinh Phuc

SAIGON AGAIN
as you could see the wide street, side walk......before that it was occupied by poor residents with slum and garbage dumps
http://img81.echo.cx/img81/8103/saigonkdsf7jp.jpg
coolink June 9th, 2005, 06:16 PM I agree with Kojima!
that stadium caused as much constroversy as the parliament in Hanoi now....because it was delayed and almost out of time
for months it was on the news.....vnexpress, tuoi tre etc...
I tried to look for them but couldn't find it because maybe the articles were too old so they deleted ?
If I remember correctly I love the German design the most.....it's a circular building with flowing metallic roof......looked very much like a ring band.
Even the Vietnamese architect association all agreed that not to build the Chinese design.....the building is too "a part" it's like additional building layering overtime....doesn't looked like a complete building at all.
and they said why not build 80-100 thousand seats stadium for future generation....instead of 60.000 seats..........but now that I read it again that building has only 40.000 seats.
after all the pressures from the public and the vietnamese architects.......they went ahead with the chinese design anyway because it was a few million cheaper. I say the Chinese copied the design from the Sydney 2000 olympic stadium......but draw an uglier version of that.
GUESS WHAT..........
turned out it's not cheap at all, now they have to pay more than they bargained for.........because the Chinese used cheap building materials.......so right before the SEA GAMES opening........cement from the stadium was cracking......cheap plastic chairs also cracked under the heat.....so they had to replace it and fix it right after it finished............and also, when the stadium finished that they realized the flame torch was built outside of the stadium instead of outside.
SO the overall costs of the stadium exceeded the german and the American too....because they had to spend more money to fix it right after it's done.
Crazy really.
versalvin June 9th, 2005, 07:10 PM Man that's simply DISQUSTING.
that's simply shows how corrupting the governing powers in VN...and how weak the voices/opions of the people.
The Vinh Phuc is that near Saigon?
lovesaigon June 9th, 2005, 07:44 PM Vinh Phuc is a Nothern province, near Hanoi not Saigon.
Saigoneseguy June 9th, 2005, 09:02 PM Man that's simply DISQUSTING.

No,only a few of them are corrupting, most are just stupid with some political fantasies.
Pelerin_au_tonkin June 10th, 2005, 01:24 AM ahaha man thats just crazy... i remember when i read a business newspaper they were talking about it as a super project... well on the paper the design was looking "good"... does anyone have pics of the proposed projects by the german, american, and by the viet designers?
versalvin June 12th, 2005, 05:09 PM Vinh Phuc stadium looks pretty nice..
Man we nźed grand stadium to be built sometimes sơon at Saigon.
coolink July 8th, 2005, 06:56 PM http://ashui.com/tintrongnganh_ct.php?k=1&d=20050706184409
lastest news, the stadium in Hanoi is cracking again.
Blue_Sky July 9th, 2005, 07:59 AM nice stadium....
despite of the cracking hehehe
coolink July 13th, 2005, 08:14 PM ooooo don't say that......I love that $1 dollar store next to mah house very much.....can't live without it.
coolink July 21st, 2005, 05:17 PM Where is Tran's post? hehehe
I agree with you Tran.....never use anything made in CHina!!!!!!!!!!!.....(unless it's only cost $1 :) )
well here are photos of the other smaller building in Phu Tho's race course.....and the other is near the Joan of Arc church in Cho Lon
Unfortunately, not only the stadium in Hanoi's cracking.....the one in Saigon ...Phu Tho is cracking too.....I read it on the news paper when I was in Vietnam....and I went there to see for myself, and I saw a huge cracked on this building below.
seems like every building in Vietnam has a crack....so human like hehehe
(wonder if they got cheeks? :) )

Trān July 21st, 2005, 10:45 PM My offensive but true post was deleted shortly after it was posted. Who is the culprit ?! ;-) .
What you say about Phu' Tho. sport hall is astounding. In 2003, when i was in SGN, this was being built, I somehow felt glad for athletic people in this city. Can you imagine such a big town with so few sport places. That explains why SGNeses are getting fat and overweighted.
Corruptions,Corruptions... I remember I have seen in this forum a photo of a building with a billboard where one can read that a same company got involved as the construction consultant and the inspection officer.
I don't buy chinese did it cost less than 1$ if i had choice.
Trān July 21st, 2005, 10:54 PM http://www.china-pictorial.com/chpic/htdocs/English/content/200403/9-2.htm
I'm disgusted at how the text is elogious for a construction that is proven to be a failure in both architecture and constrcution technique.
Tosco July 27th, 2005, 11:19 PM Nice stadiums!
psveindhoven September 6th, 2007, 11:44 AM Here you can post pics of Vietnamese stadiums.
