i wanto cry when i see these, tehran was soooo beautiful, if they kept it that way tehran could of been such a beautiful city, like rome, barcelona .... but u know, stuff happened. inshallah we can get it to look like this again :)

I don't see much beauty in old Tehran to be honest, the city's infrastructure and urban landscape is comparable to small American towns in that time. I do like the old Qajar buildings though, hopefully we'll see plenty of those restored with the Lalehzar St plan.

im not talking about the infastructure, im just looking at the "reekhto ghiafe" of the city, surely tehran lacked new yorks infastructure at the time, but the city was more closed in, far less crowded, poluted, it was clean and sweet

Sadly not even close to Baltimore, but it's nice to see a more quiet and traditional city like you said.

Amazing how things have changed and developed through this time! But the way how people drive seems to be like this even in those times.

Ferdowsi sq. - Circa 1950s
Tehran Ferdowsi Square 1950s; The old sitting statue of Ferdowsi, great Iranian poet that revived Persian language was replaced around 1960s. Ferdowsi is looking southbound, and the shadows indicate it must be 1-2 in the afternoon. The unknown photographer took this nice picture standing at the south-west corner of the square looking towards Darvazeh Dowlat. Mountains are visible at the end of the Enghelab st. The sign of Kelly tyres hangs on the right in front of a pharmacy and the sign on the left hand side 4 story building reads Lida Co. The 4th floor corner is shaped inwards unlike other floors to make more space for a balcony. The tall gray building further westward is the Royal Cinema.

I noticed that two of the Life photos with double decker buses have been scanned the wrong way round. Perhaps the person digitising the photos thought that a red "London bus" double decker could not be left hand drive and decided to correct the photos. :)

It's a common mistake to place the emulsion side of film up when scanning, I'm guilty of it myself.
