I was bored this Saturday and decided to borrow a friend's digital camera and go practice taking pics. This is my first ever attempt at taking digital pics, so don't be surprised if the quality sucks! :) Hopefully I took some pics of familiar buildings from not so familiar vantage points. But even more importantly, let's just hope they were in focus. lol

Awesome shots. I was actually hanging all over where those shots were yesterday...we probably crossed paths and didn't know it.

My gym is right at Monroe and Wacker, and I usually spend a couple of minutes gazing at the skyscraper cluster on S. Wacker Drive each time I go.

The Hyatt / UBS / 111 S. Wacker, Sears Tower cluster is now probably my favorite in the city. Amazing how much S. Wacker Drive has changed in the last 5-10 years. It is now one of the prominent addresses in the city.

For some reason the pics look a little bit blue. But they get better after it rained. I have no idea why. Let's just pretend I was going for a cool effect. Chicago! City of the blues. hahaha :jk:

Thanks JB. You weren't the guy who asked me if I had any spare change, were you? lol I was the guy with a big ass Sony camera and a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt.

South Wacker has really come along for a number of reasons. One I think is proximity to the Metra station, and 2 in anticipation of Wacker recunstruction. (Who knows when now?)

Thanks James. I'm wallpaper! That so rocks. :righton: I've never been so flattered. I was just trying to get a pic that really showed off how impressive the Banc One building was in person. All the other pics I've seen of it didn't really do it justice.

Is it just me or does the Heritage at Millenium Park fit incredibly well with the skyline from afar?

Just a few of the South Loop... I wait with baited breath for more of the South Loop ! I don't understand where Vision on State will be built, since as I envision the corner of Roosevelt and State has State Place, the end of Dearborn Park I, those SanFran-like townhouses / Dearborn Park, and finally, the last corner includes the Jewel parking lot, some strange small building, and the El. Where will it go?

Let me add to your sense of amazement. When I arrived in Chicago in early 1961, that stretch of Wacker Dr. was the garment district, Hart, Schaffner & Marx most notably, consisting of mostly 8 to 10 storey red brick warehouse structures, badly begrimed with generations of soot from the steel mills. Every single structure has since then been replaced, turning Wacker Drive into a virtual city of glass! BTW, did you know that Abraham Lincoln was chosen to be the new Republican Party's Presidential candidate in the "Wigwam" which was then located at the southeast corner of Wacker and Lake?

5-6 years ago, none of those buildings were there. Certainly, it looked like pure junk. Soon, the same transformation will happen here:

Thanks TUP! That's one of the reasons I took that pic. I didn't really go with a plan for what to take pics of. I just walked around and waited for inspiration to strike. For this pic I happened to be walking out of Target on Clark/Roosevelt after I got a pop because I was thirsty. I looked toward the SE and noticed this view for the first time and was struck by awe at all the crane towers and new construction.

El tico and Frumie thanks for your comments. Especially that Wigwam reference. It's hard to believe how much this city has transformed itself in 150 years. Unlike European cities, the U.S. and especially in Chicago don't have their oldest buildings downtown but in the neighborhoods. Downtowns are always functional and modern and buildings only remain as lond as they are economically or culturally viable.
