PyRoMaNiAc June 6th, 2005, 11:09 PM Great photos hybrid. I really miss Belgrade. Too bad I'm not going back this summer. :(
It's great to see that the city is being fixed up constantly and I hope the reconstruction projects continue to fix up a lot of the beautiful buildings in Belgrade. I think the priority though has to be to fix Generalstab, etc. because it's not a nice image to see when in the city. From what I read a few days ago, the buildings that were destroyed are still under the ownership of Yugoslavia and have not yet been transferred to SCG, so nothing can be done with them yet. Between 2002 when I went back for the first time since 1992 to 2004, my family and I noticed a drastic difference in the city. And it seems that the city has already changed since last summer.
Some of my favourite pictures:

Aleks011 June 7th, 2005, 12:41 AM The building that you ask which one it is, is a building across the street from the Ministry of Defense, and across the park between this building and the Government building. It was very run-down, and the job they did is fantastic. It's lit up like no other building in Belgrade. And I heard that the park it self has been reorganized as well; I'll see in two weeks.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this building is the Ministry of Finance or the Union Statistics Office, or both.
BTW.. WTF is happening with the interior of Hram Svetog Save? Did someone confuse this job with the upgrading of Intercontinental bathrooms? :runaway:
Majevčan June 7th, 2005, 01:46 AM wow, what's that building; beautiful
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v519/hybrid111/Belgrade2005/8.jpg
the rest definitly needs some restoration(and I love seeing the streets reconstructed in the pics)

All in all it seems that Belgrade progresses quite well

I believe that's the Postal Museum.

Thanks for the great pics hybrid :):okay:

I'd really like to see the interior plans for St Sava. The central dome is supposed to have a mosaic of Christ Pantokrato (http://www.culture.gr/2/21/212/21211m/00/lb11m02c.jpg) so I had imagined something similiar to this golden design:
http://www.bestofsicily.com/pantokrator.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/09/Monreale.jpg
...but with a red and green colour scheme of diamonds for the base, I really don't know how the walls, arches, minor domes and the interior as a whole, will turn out in the end.
Anyway, once again, great pics hybrid!

Hybrid, very nice photos!
VelesHomais June 7th, 2005, 05:16 PM Belgrad looks exactly like a normal, European city should look like.
Was it severely damaged during WW2 or not?
Aleks011 June 7th, 2005, 06:16 PM Yes it was, bombed twice, first by Germans, and then even more severe by Allied forces.
VelesHomais June 7th, 2005, 07:33 PM That doesn't tell me anything. How many streets were destroyed? What percentage of the city? Was it rebuilt?
Aleks011 June 7th, 2005, 08:25 PM Ok.. well it at least told you that it was bombed, and not once, but twice. But here are some details:
April 6,7, 11 and 12, 1941: 440 ton of explosive material was dropped on Belgrade by German forces. Central areas were hit; including the main Chain Bridge, Royal Palaces and the National Library. Around 50% of all buildings in Belgrade were destroyed or damaged. 2.274 persons were killed.
April 16, 17, 21, 24 April, 18 May, 6 June, 8 July and 3 September 1994: Allied forces bomb Belgrade. Many buildings are destroyed, as well as ALL the bridges across the Sava and the Danube. In the first two days, 1160 civilians die; the number of civilian casualties for the following days is still unknown.
In total, some 50.000 Belgrade inhabitants died as a result of WW2.
Rebuilding: Some buildings have been rebuilt, like the National Museum and the Royal Palaces, although not completely, while other targets, like the old bridge, and the National Library, remaind ruins.
Homer Jay June 7th, 2005, 09:09 PM photos "vrlo" good, brate hybrid!
that renovated building (ministery of finance) has beautifuk iluminations as the renovated facade of the city hall (the one faced to the new fountaine).
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
for the photographers who are these days in Belgrade please take a picture of "Batman begins" billboard in Kralja Milana, across "Miticeva rupa". I think many of the forumers will love it, especially Stevan.
pobesnelizmaj June 7th, 2005, 11:36 PM Belgrade was BEAUTIFUL , BUT VERY BEAUTIFUL before WW2. And plans for new buildings were FUNTASTIC!!! (treba da vidite ako niste videli plan za Mitićevu robnu kuću koja je trebalo na Slaviji da bude)! and after 41. all went down... comunist architecture ruined bg, when they put commie buildings near older ones... but what you see is the thing that was saved, and Belgrade now isn't 1/10 nice as it was before WW2 during The Kingdom of Yugoslavia......
pobesnelizmaj June 7th, 2005, 11:57 PM Beautiful gallery hybrid
Vrachar June 24th, 2005, 02:01 AM April 16, 17, 21, 24 April, 18 May, 6 June, 8 July and 3 September 1994:
You mean 1944, actually.
branko_kockica June 24th, 2005, 03:57 AM Belgrade... has soul!:) I love it , i love it, i love HIM
Markko June 24th, 2005, 04:49 AM Great pics...
California EU June 30th, 2005, 10:23 AM Love the pics, Are they replacing the trams or trolleys in the city?
braykov1988 July 21st, 2005, 01:38 PM nice pictures, thumbs up for the renovations. Go belgrade!
the city reminds me a little of Sofia only without the chaos, stifling traffic and overlapping parked cars. streets look very neat, there are no posters and ads everywhere. Is traffic so calm all the time or are the photos taken on a weekend? It's really surprising to see a city with almost 2mln (Balkan) inhabitants and no subway have such mild driving conditions.
branko_kockica July 21st, 2005, 10:22 PM WE couldn't build metro till 1990... we were a rich country, but there were 6 republics , and if Belgrade had taken the money, thet would have been negative for relationships... so commies didn't take money to save peace in country, and they made stupid tram lines that were supposed to be fast ( to suburbs like Banovo Brdo, Knezevac, Blok 45.), but aren't fast, just an ordinary tram.... and after 1990 the war and crisis started , and there wasn't money... Belgrade needed metro since 1970's....today, trafic is chaotic here...
Today, mayor explains that light rail is better, the main reason is price... :( so soon we will get light rail , instead od 2 time faster, comfortable and totaly underground heavy metro.
conclusion:
no money-- no music:)
Barragon August 25th, 2005, 01:16 AM Beautiful city :applause: there are some nice buildings

Luka September 8th, 2005, 08:34 AM Love the pics, Are they replacing the trams or trolleys in the city?
Trolleys are being replaced by new ones rapidly and as well about 90% of trolleys are now orange (their new colours). For trams I’m not shore.
Great pics BTW
