View Full Version : DR-BYEN: A link to some nice fotos
TORONTOCOPENHAGEN June 7th, 2005, 02:14 PM Hi guys,
DR-Byen is currently under construction in Ørestaden and it is a huge project, where the all the activities of DR (National Broadcast) will be placed. I really like Jean Nouvel's concert-house.
Click on the link and then press "Diasshow - DR Byen" on the right hand side to start the slide show.

KristofferM June 20th, 2005, 01:29 AM Yes, it is all very nice. Unfortunately it will not work. People are supposed to saunter in and take liberty of any unoccupied workstation, which are of course planned to be in abundance, until somebody examines the bill and puts the good old foot down. There is no room or accomodation for anything that remotely resembles shelves or archive-space outside the electronic world; you know, books and such. Certain facilities are not considered essential in the new order, reminding me of the time, when the old film laboratory was torn down and thrown out, only to be rebuilt three years later at some other place, and at considerable cost. Some jerk had found it useless earlier. Having shown his incapabilities, he probably got a substantial amount of cash in severance pay. He ought to have been shot!
The entire "DR-Byen" project is bound for trouble, and I am not talking about Nouvel's Corncert Hall, nor the overall architectual qualities, nor the possible future qualities of the "kantine", but the fact that a lot of people will have to leave the building in order to work properly. It will be a place that you need to visit every once in a while, in order to keep in touch with the unfortunates in the leadership, forced to stay in the building, looking dismally at a lot of surrounding nitwits that think they're in the right place. Well, I for one, need a shelf behind me with my material. This simple piece of utility: A shelf; is something quite beyond those great men and women designing stuff.
Ze great planners of our vork!
We'll see a number of offices, rented at unforeseen costs!!! - to be used for those that actually produce stuff for the airwaves.
With regards,
Kristoffer Mogensen

It's exactly the same as Telenor has done at their new HQ. I have a few friends that works there, and they think it's okay actually.

Kristoffer MogensenI havent really seen anything about the officies yet, so i dont know what they will look like. I think its okay that you might find it difficult to work in the new buildings, but surely you don represent the entire population. Some people might find it okay to work in these new ways. After all, if we are talking about open landscapes, it has been done before, with success. So maybe you are just to conservative in your thinking....
KristofferM June 21st, 2005, 12:46 PM The problem is the lack of space to put things. You'd be surprised to see the amount of tapes, books and other materials you accumulate for some productions (you should take a look at the piles on my desk!). A lot of this can be discarded afterwards, but you need to have it at hand when the work is in progress.

NorthStar77 June 21st, 2005, 12:54 PM At Telenor, each employer only get a locker wich is about 15 cm high for paper and other items. As I understand it, this has modernized their work, learning to use their portable computer to everything. But I'm not sure how Telenor compares with DR, it depends alittle on the sort of work you do I guess.
KristofferM June 22nd, 2005, 01:54 AM Northstar,
I guess that Telenor employees can do with that, but the DR people are probably a bit "nerdier", and also sit with loads of tapes, DVD's, CD's, Vinyl records etc., plus copies of the same in other formats, rolled-up old posters and photo albums entrusted from private owners to whoom they are very dear, books from libraries, both our own and from the outside etc. etc.
The idea about DR-Byen is that most functions should be done at work stations, the entire facility effectively being one big machine. For example, if I were to make a four minute segment, I would load the stuff I needed: all videoclips, music and speak into the system, make a rough editing, which I later fine-tuned, including colour, sound and effects, together with the overall editor of the production. Sounds good, I've been longing for a solution like that for years. Only I still have the need for all the above-mentioned stuff before I can load anything into the system - or even know what to load into the system.

Kristoffer Mogensen
NorthStar77 June 22nd, 2005, 08:04 AM ^ahh, yeah it is quite different. I should have thought of that, since a friend of mine works in the TV-industry. At Telenor, it is just "normal" officejobs.
