I'm a bit surprised. I knew that Brazil was somewhat progressive in terms of gay rights but surprised with that turnout.

WOW - Gr8 pics and this surely places SAO on the pink map ;) Pride parades have failed dismally in South African Cities and I have to still experience a pride parade in Auckland but I am sure that it won't be anything like this.

Wow... that does look like a whole lot of fun! Really need to visit Brazil some day...

Johannesburg gets about 10000 people at their annual parades. And the organisers never seem to do a good job in organising it! But hopefully we'll get the Gay Games in 2010, and that'll definitely be a huge success! :)

No they don't give money. This was sponsored by local firms like Tam airlines, Banco do Brasil and others.

Really...I always thought of Brazil as a very open-minded kinda place. And they do love an excuse for a street party...gay or not.

I missed it the pre-last year but it must be great - even if I am not gay. I Don't know why it's so underrated - it's the biggest street parade in the world - apart from that it's a gay parade, - they have more people dancing in the street than Berlin and Zurich parades together.

... But it is outside the world media, and that makes it difficult to be realized worldwidely!!!

The Brazilian Supreme Court's decision to award same-sex couples the same rights as heterosexuals is a landmark step for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in the country. The Supreme Court ruling recognises the rights of same-sex couples to pension, inheritance and adoption. Same sex adoption in Brazil is leagl according to the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil as stated in a court decision on April 27, 2010.
