Mr. T June 8th, 2005, 04:56 AM Looks nice. A lot of luxury boxes though. Maybe not enough seats for the average fans. Good architecture though. Will Columbias national team play there when it is completed.
MoreOrLess June 8th, 2005, 12:43 PM Lots of luxury box's does seem to be quite common in Colombia, due to security concerns maybe?
Mo Rush November 8th, 2005, 02:22 AM gonna be awesome
cmc November 8th, 2005, 05:40 AM NICE , but I agree, too many luxury boxes...
Isaac Newell November 11th, 2005, 01:40 PM Looks like Barcelona's stadium in Guayaquil and LDU's in Quito. Is it the same Architect ?
bubomb November 12th, 2005, 09:14 PM What's going on with all the boxes? I thought S.America would be the last place that needs them. Check these out -

lpioe April 17th, 2008, 10:45 PM I don't like stadiums with so many boxes.
Is there really such a large demand for them in South America?
Btw what happend during the construction works?
This shots is from 2005 and they haven't done much since then.

larsul June 26th, 2008, 11:19 PM No, they have to go through the jungle to get there.. :D
berkshire royal June 26th, 2008, 11:55 PM personally so far i like it good traditional south american feel to it and a good size to but the location is awful.
I don't like stadiums with so many boxes.
Is there really such a large demand for them in South America?
Im guessing this has something to do with economics in South America the difference between the top 25% earners and the lowest 25% earners is huge bigger than many parts of the world and because of this gap there are plenty of high earners who want to watch football but in comfort and I guess greater safety and these boxes aren't as lavish as boxes in Europe or North America they are designed to get the richer people coming too football without costing an arm and a leg like in Europe and North America.
Gecko1989 June 27th, 2008, 12:21 AM why is it still not finished is there even construction happing at all?
kazetuner June 27th, 2008, 12:41 AM i dont like it :ohno:
salaverryo July 1st, 2008, 03:05 AM It's in the middle of nowhere!!! :omg:
Never seen anything like it.
miguelon July 1st, 2008, 08:22 PM paratroopers, thats a good name for a "barra" or suporting group, because thats how they will arrive to the stadium. jaja
AcesHigh July 1st, 2008, 10:11 PM hey, stop saying "south american style". You dont see stadiums with 2 billion boxes in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. The closer you get to it is Boca Juniors Bombonera Stadium, but only one side has boxes (but only boxes on the other hand).
In Brazil that doesnt even exist. And if you are going to say "south america", remember Brazil occupies half of South America and has half of South America“s population.
jamesinclair July 3rd, 2008, 02:34 AM In Brazil that doesnt even exist. And if you are going to say "south america", remember Brazil occupies half of South America and has half of South America“s population.
Thats because 95% of the stadiums in Brasil were built from 1950 to 1980, before luxury boxes became common.
TEBC July 4th, 2008, 07:45 AM Thats because 95% of the stadiums in Brasil were built from 1950 to 1980, before luxury boxes became common.
almost all brazilian stadiums has luxury boxes in it.. but is not this hrible wall!!
www.sercan.de July 5th, 2008, 12:44 PM is this stadium finished or still u/c?
kazetuner July 5th, 2008, 11:28 PM according to wikipedia, it's still U/C. the seats and the roof are still missing. they plan to finish it in the last months of 2008
salaverryo July 6th, 2008, 12:36 AM The aerial photo shows a single access road. Is it paved?
smokiboy July 9th, 2008, 12:45 AM I guess if you are going to build a stadium nowhere - you should be in the middle of it.
How far to downtown?
afac90 July 19th, 2008, 11:29 PM 10 minutes.........in expressway..........is very fast to go there............in colombia we are getting ready to host a world cup...
P!P3
Kuvvaci July 20th, 2008, 03:34 PM very nice...
KingmanIII October 18th, 2008, 06:48 AM HOLY SHIT, those skyboxes look like an NFL owner's wet dream!
:eek2:
genchev_sofia March 24th, 2009, 04:04 PM I don't understand many things about this project...
The location is unbelieveable! It's an usual thing nowadays stadiums to be built outside of town, on free areas. But on this picture i don't see any buildings, there's not even a trace form civilization arround the new arena.
And even if it's not so far from the city as it looks like, I cannot find the clear logic of the stadium, the building concept... Why so many VIP- boxes? As vertical proportion they look bigger than the normal stands on the first tier. And the tier itself looks like the typical eastern europe stadiums from the socialist era.
Too much critic maybe, but really don't like it.

What do you prefer? 10.000 paying 20 U$ or 100 paying 5.000??
TEBC March 25th, 2009, 12:31 AM This stadium is complete and in use:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/Estadio-deporcali.jpg
First oficial game was Colombia x Nigeria in November “08
wikipedia:
Estadio Deportivo Cali is a multi-use stadium home of the Asociacion Deportivo Cali, a football (soccer) club from Santiago de Cali, Colombia-South America. Although, still under construction, it is used mostly for football matches. The newly built stadium, with capacity for 55,000 people, was officially inaugurated during the match played between Colombia and Nigeria on November 19, 2008, with victory of 1-0 by the local National Team. Other soccer matches and events such concerts took place before and after the inauguration, but they were not as important as the Colombia Vs. Nigeria game to be considered for the inauguration.[1] The stadium is located in the highway connecting Cali and Palmira, close to Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport. This was the single picked stadium project of many that were planned, including stadiums for Los Millonarios, Atletico Nacional, and Independiente Medellin, which were withdrawn due to economic reasons.
The construction of Deportivo Cali's stadium was paralyzed due to findings of the remains of an ancient indigenous culture.
bing222 March 25th, 2009, 07:17 AM Any webcams
Jim856796 March 25th, 2009, 03:06 PM If the stadium is completed, then was the stadium supposed to have an exterior facade? And without exterior landscaping and paved parking lots (the parking lot appears to be made out of dirt), this stadium looks like you built it in a third-world country.
lpioe March 25th, 2009, 11:32 PM There is so much free land much closer to the city and also closer to the Cali-Palmira highway, I wonder why they picked exactly this spot. After you leave the highway it's still about 1.5km to the stadium on a narrow road.

Carrerra March 26th, 2009, 08:19 AM bizzarre, weird.... Anyway it's obvious that it has very bad location in terms of attendance
LMCA1990 March 26th, 2009, 05:07 PM The stadium's not complete. It still needs the 2 high stands at the ends and the tv and seats not to mention the parking lot. The team's kind of tight on money at the mo but it should be finished by 2011 for the U-20 world cup :)
KenMan August 20th, 2009, 08:14 PM i'm not really fond of luxury boxes they take the whole esence of going to the stadium away
xxcopetexx August 21st, 2009, 06:41 PM Its not completed yet, I believe they stopped part of the construction due to a series of findings of Precolombian artifacts! Supposedly where they are to build the parking lots and why not they found a cemetery. Right now I believe they are working on an alternate highway for the stadium. And also I read somewhere I few months ago that they are planning on building villas close to the stadium and a massive mall. Although as many of you pointed out the location is not the best! It should have been built closer to the city of Cali or Palmira, but not right in the middle.
radoner August 21st, 2009, 07:37 PM Only one word for it: Disappointing
salaverryo August 21st, 2009, 09:15 PM I guess if you are going to build a stadium nowhere - you should be in the middle of it.
How far to downtown?
How do you know where the middle is, if there are no points of reference? :dunno:
d.m.a August 30th, 2009, 04:56 AM You are going to have water park, amusement park in the end things but I tell you that the stadium is not finished then we can not demand, criticize certain things, and when the stadium is completed and that these can criticize all they want
Andres321 August 30th, 2009, 06:32 PM you don't know the stadium, then why criticize much?
josemg August 30th, 2009, 11:03 PM http://xs942.xs.to/xs942/09350/2569957462_747e101542_o103.jpg
Daniel2003co August 30th, 2009, 11:46 PM ^^Great Picture:)
xxcopetexx August 31st, 2009, 04:10 PM it is a great shot! I wish they show pics of how they are working in the inside and also the parking lots... I want to see it finished already!!!!!!!
Ibague September 1st, 2009, 05:17 PM The stadium is under construction currently. It will have facade, parking, access roads, etc. It is not fair to critizise it when is not even close to finish. It will be one of the stadiums for the world cup. I personaly don't like the sky boxes either, but the stadium will look much better once is finished.
Patriot76 December 10th, 2009, 09:41 AM It's has an ugly interior, no individual seats for the fans and has way to many VIP seats (don't confuse them with Luxury Suites), it has no facade, no parking lot, it's not painted (inside or outside)... sorry, but it's just plain ugly. :ohno:
LS Design December 11th, 2009, 11:02 AM I don't like stadiums with so many boxes.
Is there really such a large demand for them in South America?
The thing is that in South America either your rich or your poor. There is no middle class. In Argentina there is upper and lower class people. De La Rua ex-president of Argentina wiped out the whole middle class creating a gap between rich and poor. I am sure that what happened in Argentina has happened in all South America. So there is a large demand of boxes. and you wont catch a game with out a box empty.
Jim856796 December 12th, 2009, 08:27 PM I agree with Patriot76, it looks like construction is on hold, I don't know when they'll resume construction and finish the stadium in full.
xTeVe December 12th, 2009, 08:43 PM ^^ They will resume the construction in 2010, becuase this stadium will be one host of the FIFA WC U20 in 2011.
The main problem with the stadium are the access roads, but the city of Palmira will build them.
PS: Valle del Cauca state will be the only region in Colombia in 2011 with new stadiums for the Cali city' soccer teams.
Deportivo Cali - Deportivo Cali Stadium (52,000)
America de Cali - Pascual Guerrero Stadium (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1022037) (36,000)
MicroX December 28th, 2009, 11:12 PM What's going on with all the boxes? I thought S.America would be the last place that needs them. Check these out -
On top of what LS Design said, these luxury boxes aren't the luxury boxes you see in America (which are true luxury boxes). The boxes of the stadiums you showed have a small restroom, a sink (apart from the restroom sink), under a dozen seats each box and a very small living room space. Nothing special really.
Mr.Bennish February 9th, 2010, 06:59 AM Lots of luxury box's does seem to be quite common in Colombia, due to security concerns maybe?
Not really, basically is because is the only way a Colombian team can afford a new stadium, selling lots and lots of VIP boxes.
Don't really like due to the amount of boxes really justs looks horrible.
Well, it is just a matter of opinion.
No, they have to go through the jungle to get there.. :D
No pal don’t be so ignorant, the jungle is really far away from there.
I’m guessing this has something to do with economics in South America the difference between the top 25% earners and the lowest 25% earners is huge bigger than many parts of the world and because of this gap there are plenty of high earners who want to watch football but in comfort and I guess greater safety and these boxes aren't as lavish as boxes in Europe or North America they are designed to get the richer people coming too football without costing an arm and a leg like in Europe and North America.

Actually the most recent stadiums in South America use the VIP boxes as a way to get the required founds to be able to afford them. The ones you mention are pretty old stadiums and they were build in other times.
HOLY SHIT, those skyboxes look like an NFL owner's wet dream!

Jim856796 July 10th, 2010, 01:56 AM No progress or updates on the Deportivo Cali stadium in two years. :bash: Still on hold, probably?
Cafetėro August 19th, 2010, 04:51 AM On hold, dissapointing! they didn't planed well, so sad because the structure and design are amaizing, but the main problems are the distance from the nearest cities and the lack of knowledge or intelligence from their owners, Deportivo Cali doesn't have a good attendance avarage to reach this capacity... for the last 20 years of the colombian soccer legue the attandance can be around 20.000 avarage (it is not an official number, just from my perspective), so how do you expect to be profitable or support this investment if your where wrong on your numbers??
There are no founds to continue the project for now, hope they reach some important sponsor interested on continue with it.
xxcopetexx December 9th, 2010, 03:57 PM What ever happened to COCA-COLA and/or Coomeva, are they finishing the stadium or what???

Yes... but the Club is looking for investment or sponsors to finish it (not well planned at the begining).

^^You know something; I think the way such VIP buildings are designed have the capability to provide the venue with a fantastic acoustic effect. Imagine the pression that this would generate on the rival team.

everything should point me to not like this, but i do. And i can see the culture in SA would make this very good atmosphere... I like to think I apply culture to the overall project value. Culture is part of a stadium consideration...or should be..:)
And I imagine a VIP box is more like a house party, not like a stuffy business box for corporate bosses..

hugosanba May 13th, 2011, 06:44 AM lastima que se demoren tanto en terminar este estadio que para mi seria uno de los mas vistosos del pais
dududuarte May 13th, 2011, 07:38 AM The stadium has a nice interior, but... it is in the middle of nowhere... I can't imagine people drinking beer and enjoying the pre/after-game in this area... Football is a urban popular culture, and this looks so desert

juliancali June 24th, 2011, 11:26 PM Where are spectators expected to show up from? From underground? or Will they be paraschuted from planes?
No, they have to go through the jungle to get there.. :D
personally so far i like it good traditional south american feel to it and a good size to but the location is awful.
It's in the middle of nowhere!!! :omg:
Never seen anything like it.
paratroopers, thats a good name for a "barra" or suporting group, because thats how they will arrive to the stadium. jaja
I guess if you are going to build a stadium nowhere - you should be in the middle of it.
How far to downtown?
I don't understand many things about this project...
Too much critic maybe, but really don't like it.
bizzarre, weird.... Anyway it's obvious that it has very bad location in terms of attendance

dududuarte June 24th, 2011, 11:51 PM ^^ yeah, i was researching about the urban areas of Cali and the stadium is really close of the second most dense area in population of Cali.

Why isn't this stadium in the World Cup? How can Colombia's newest stadium not be in such a large event?!
Cafetėro July 1st, 2011, 07:19 AM Why isn't this stadium in the World Cup? How can Colombia's newest stadium not be in such a large event?!
The club don't have the resources to finish it, and the government can't afford it because it is a private asset, so that is why. The world cup will be played in the PASCUAL GUERRERO Stadium that is the stadium of the city and they are working on in for the WC, it will be also one of the best stadiums in Colombia.
I think what this guy mean with "in the middle of nowhere" is that there is nothing around there, only a structure and nothing else, no bar, no food spots, no restaurants, no pub's, nothing... it is close in distance from the two main cities in the region but there is no facilities around the stadium.
