i was at the handan campus of fudan university when i was a freshman. that was back in 2003
wujiaochang was designed to become the new downtown of shanghai back in the Republic Of China era. all streets were named after the words "國""民""政" and“府”（symbolizing the governance of the kuomingtang nationalists）.
however, after the communists established the PRC, the Wujiaochang area was transformed into an industrial area. now the government has decided to turn the place into the xujiahui of the north.(xujiahui is known for its department stores and commercial landmarks)
