spyk March 25th, 2009, 07:51 PM KUWAIT: The official inauguration of the Jaber Stadium is expected to be delayed by about a year and a half; official sources said. The Public Authority for Youth and Sports argued that the delay in signing tenders for equipping the stadium is attributed to insufficient storage facilities.
Some observers have however slammed such an excuse as ''feeble,'' considering the fact that the Audit Bureau had already endorsed the tenders. They pointed out to the fact that the authority could have rented storage facilities to store the equipment instead. Earlier on, the opening of the stadium was delayed on the excuse that it lacked local toilets.
CrazY March 25th, 2009, 08:55 PM LOL what are local toilets!

Danny21 April 13th, 2009, 05:12 PM Kuwait’s new 60,000-seat Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium would be the pride of most football teams anywhere in the world, but instead of the national team having a new home, contractual wrangling has paralysed the venue, valued at 55 million dinars (Dh693m), for the past two years.
http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=AD&Date=20090406&Category=FOREIGN&ArtNo
“Unfortunately, we have not taken advantage of that nice new stadium,” Husam al Tahous, assistant undersecretary of construction sector at the ministry of public works, said at a conference on Kuwaiti business projects last week.
The main contract started construction in 2004 and ended in 2007. But just before it was completed, Kuwait’s Public Authority for Youth and Sport, which will eventually own the stadium, “wanted to make some improvements”, Mr al Tahous said, adding that the extra work requested was expected to be finished this month.
Kuwaiti public works has supervised construction and a local engineering company, Mohammed Abdulmohsin al Kharafi and Sons, is the main contractor building the venue, which is named after the late emir, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah.
A source from the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) said it and the sport authority want improvements to the parking facilities, entrances and exits, internal facilities and rooms. They also want escalators to replace some of the stairs, adding that “it’s likely to be opened in 2010”.
If the stadium does not open until 2010, it will mean more complications. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had already pencilled in Kuwait’s next group match in the Asian Cup qualifiers to take place in the new venue in November.
“The end user wants serious changes,” said Nabil Kartam of the civil engineering department at Kuwait University. He said the amendments came so late that they are difficult to integrate into the stadium’s design.
Squabbling about what should be changed and who should pay has paralysed the stadium since the completion of the main contract two years ago. Instead of providing Kuwaiti fans with a world-class venue, the ground has become a monument to the monolithic bureaucracy that hampers development projects and makes Kuwait the least favourable destination for foreign investment in the GCC.
Inside, everything looks ready. The fully enclosed, two-tiered stands tower high over the marked pitch, peaking at the halfway line. The design is similar to Arsenal’s acclaimed Emirates Stadium in London with blue seats to match the national team’s strip. A sprawling, saddle-shaped canopy is in place to protect the crowd from the searing heat. Only an athletics track will separate the fans from the players.
Even the sound system, two giant display screens and the royal lounge’s plush carpet are all in place. But instead of fans on the seats, there is a thick layer of dust, and the only noise filling the rafters comes from the hundreds of birds nesting there.
Despite its deserted feel, the stadium has already received acclaim for its design. Delegations from Fifa, world football’s governing body, and the AFC have “verbally” given it a five-star rating, the source from the KFA said.
Liverpool Football Club’s fans have been watching the contractor’s success in building a new stadium because the owners, the Al Kharafi family, have been linked to a takeover of the English Premiership team, even though they have denied the press reports so far. Liverpool has its own plan to build a 60,000-seat venue and the family’s stadium-building experience could be useful. Currently, Liverpool’s project is on hold because of the international financial crisis.
But Kuwaiti fans are more interested in getting their own stadium up and running first. “I think people in Kuwait are used to delays, but they are annoyed about this,” said Yousef al Muhanna, a Kuwaiti fan. “A couple of friends and I were supposed to see an opening match between Kuwait and Brazil or Italy, but we’re still waiting. I’ve been to Old Trafford, Allianz Arena and the Stadio Olimpico. All of those stadiums were properly planned.”
Kuwait’s national team could use a boost. Once a major force in Gulf football and the Asian Cup champions in 1980, they have struggled in recent competitions. They finished bottom of their qualifying group for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
When asked if the new stadium will improve the performance of the national team, Mr al Muhanna was not so sure.
“If you want the team to improve properly, you have to do it properly. Giving the team a new stadium is like giving a 16-year-old guy who has just learnt how to drive a new car. It doesn’t matter if you give him a Mini Cooper or a Ferrari – it will not make him a better driver. You have to improve the system and the training.”

Danny21 March 16th, 2010, 02:57 AM In compliance with instructions from the Cabinet, rapid preparations are underway to hold a "simple inauguration" of the Jaber AlـAhmed International Stadium.
http://alwatandaily.alwatan.com.kw/Data/site12/News/Issues201003/ahp4-031610.pc.jpg
Sources to Al Watan stated that a meeting was held Monday that included the four authorities assigned by the Cabinet to the stadium project, which are the Ministries of Public Works and Finance, the Central Tenders Committee (CTC), and the Public Authority for Youths and Sports, and that the meeting resulted in an agreement being reached to ready whatever can be prepared quickly to meet the set inauguration date in April, where a football match is supposed to be held.
The preparations include the football field, in addition to entrances and exits to facilitate movement into and out of the stadium, where the other preparations will be completed after the inauguration, since they require paperwork that includes the CTC.
The Cabinet had received a letter during its meeting on Feb. 14 sent by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor that included correspondence from the Public Authority for Youths and Sports saying that they sought a simple inauguration to take place by holding a football match in April.
The Cabinet''s Secretary General stated in a circular to the four concerned authorities that the stadium still is incomplete, including the soccer field, which requires more work to start the execution process. He added that the short time span available till the set start day will not allow for the execution of the remaining work.

Danny21 March 21st, 2010, 07:29 AM The Ministry of Public Works is working on constructing a VIP road to the Jaber Stadium at an estimated cost of 107,000 Kuwaiti dinars.
The road will begin from the Sixth Ring Road, adjacent to the stadium, away from the main public entrance, which would allow VIPs to avoid traffic during large sporting events to be held at the stadium.
http://alwatandaily.alwatan.com.kw/Data/site12/News/Issues201003/alo10-032110.pc.jpg
The ministry has completed the laying of basic construction for the road, and will soon hand it over to the General Traffic Department.
The ministry is keen to execute projects as fast as possible according to specific standards and measurements to ensure the full benefit of the project for the longest period of time possible.
It is worth mentioning that the Jaber Stadium is a multipurpose stadium and is located in Farwaniya Governorate in the Ardiya Industrial area.
The stadium can hold around 60,000 spectators, which makes it the biggest stadium in Kuwait.
There is a running track around the football field, in addition to a swimming pool, meeting rooms, and locations for police, paramedics and firemen.
The stadium has four floors; the first floor is a VIP parking lot and a helicopter landing pad.
The second floor includes the Amiri Hall, entrances to the Amiri lounge, rooms for officials, a doctor, secretaries, a glass monument of the field, meeting rooms, rooms that overlook the football field, 54 cabins that hold 600 spectators, rooms for the television, the press, press conference halls, 100 seats for the press, five rooms for broadcasting commentators, six television broadcasting studios, a room for television and radio broadcasting, an analytic studio, control room, a score board control room, rooms for guards, policemen, and paramedics, and a main supervision room.
The third floor includes four prayer rooms, sports wear shops, and restaurants;
while the fourth floor has the light and scoreboard services.
The stadium was designed to look like the AlـBoom ship, and beneath the football field, water suction pipes can be found to suck and filter water to reuse it.

Thamerium September 15th, 2010, 10:18 AM first match it will be against Chile , in october 8.
is that true?
It was supposed to be opened officially on 10-10-2010... but it is delayed, maybe for the 10th time, to February, 25th, 2011...
I think that the opening game will be against Egypt not Chile... because we have many Egyptians in Kuwait, so they may guarantee a full capacity on the opening day of the stadium...
By the way, the stadium was done by end of 2007... today, we are at the end of 2010 and it still not in use!!!
Kuwaiti October 24th, 2010, 12:27 AM The pitch conditions are terrible.

I'm beginning to wonder the same thing. Our national team should be playing matches in the new stadium but it seems like we're opting for the older and smaller stadiums, instead. It beats me as to why we couldn't just play in our biggest stadium already! >_<
